Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

FFXII has aged better than every main series FF entry before it. FFXIII was ten steps backwards and FFXV is an incomplete ramen noodle ad.

Nier: Automata's story and gameplay are severely hampered by the ridiculous horny character designs. It's not hard to make a good-looking female video game protagonist/point of view character without having the camera jammed in her vulva. In general, any video game that spends any length of time sexualizing its characters for no reason immediately cheapens the rest of the game.

What is it with people pretending XII isn't just a shitty Star Wars rip off single player MMO these days? Also, it's funny to me that you stick up for it, considering your following statement, when XII is the game that ruined the Viera, turning them from fun, colorful designs into scowling shitty lingerie models.

Welcome to Yoko Taro. Dude is carried by putting a shitty sexbot in a short skirt. I liked Drakengard, but it's just like everything else he's made: Weird fetish shit with a nugget of 'I'm 12 and this is deep'.

That game deserved an Alex Jones voice DLC, like this video but real
Funny Jones joke aside, that video really shows how far we've come, to think it went from the old, shitty, pixelly Doom to something that stunning, and still a good game too (I assume, I haven't played it, but I want to now).

Same goes for Half Life, I never played any half life but I watched a video about Black Mesa and it's alien world (don't remember the name) looked amazing.

I’m only adding this here because no one I know irl ever seems to discuss it, I don’t know if it’s actually unpopular or not. The Switch controllers are the worst hardware Nintendo has ever produced. They fucking suck. Tiny buttons that drop inputs 30% of the time, who the fuck was in charge of that shit. Maybe teeny tiny yellow dick Jap hands can work them, I can’t even get the minus button to register unless I use a toothpick.

Here's another hot take. Most "gamers" like to circlejerk each other and gatekeep. In reality, all the new games are really fun but trying to be hip towards obese neckbeards and virgin schoolers online has made every game that isn't a soul or halo knock off stale.
Nope. We need gatekeeping now more than ever.

Don't forget the d-pad. I have no idea why they didn't have a proper d-pad on the original Switch and used the same buttons as the face buttons. They are fucking terrible for a d-pad, the Switch has a good number of games where you would actually want to use the d-pad over the analog stick but tough shit bucko, good luck using that pile of crap. Worst d-pad since the Xbox 360.

360's D-pad was so bad I ended up using the stick for 2D platformers.

Speaking of which, I remember hearing endless praise for the 360 controller, but I ended up having more of those just die out of the blue on me than any other controller.

Joycons are the reason I truly believe that Nintendo just lucked into being #1 with the Switch.

They fundamentally go against what makes the Switch great. Does anyone actually play their switch in portable mode with any other people? And if you do, does anyone enjoy using a single joycon for ANY game? Is there any fucking use for HD Rumble outside of 1 2 Switch?

I honestly can't decide if Miyamoto just demanded some stupid gimmick needed to be there and Nintendo just let him have it, or if they honestly thought Switch was going to be some party gathering point for games and was going to have a ton of games where you tried to figure out how many balls you were cupping based on a rumble.

Switch is #1 because nobody else makes portable game systems anymore, and portable game systems never stopped being popular, it's just Clown World and everyone's retarded now. Especially Sony because why the fuck did they squander the Vita

seriously, fuckin' even Sega could make a comeback by slapping some midrange Android hardware into a shell with a gamepad the size of a PSP. The pocket-sized handheld game system is dead, and old pocket-sized handheld game systems are more valuable than they should be, because the market's not being filled and nobody's stepping up.

I think there's a slight feeling of the bow notching in Breath of the Wild. Other than that, it's just used the same way as every other console's rumble. Because who wants to program special snowflake shit very very few people will ever notice? Maybe there'll be more HD Rumble stuff now that Steam Deck and PS5's Dualsense have haptics, but I doubt it.

Japanese business practices + Miyamoto's severe autism that causes him to cut his nose off to spite his face over gimmicks = yeah Miyamoto probably threw a fit and got his way

Its been over 5 years and both motion controls and standard controls are built into the game. Why is the prime trilogy not in the e shop? I dont give a fuck about nu-2D platformers when the market has been flooded with them for over a decade by every amateur that has ever touched a game engine.

We know prime 4 is never seeing the light of day along with half life 2 episode 3. I suspect that dread was made out of assets left over from the original scrapped version of prime 4 since it came out in under a year and somehow wasn’t a half finished unplayable mess like three houses was.

Almost everyone has a handheld computer that's perfectly capable of running quite impressive games in their pocket at all times, so it's hard to justify a dedicated portable gaming platform anymore. Unfortunately, Apple's App Store completely fucked up the mobile gaming economy right from the start and it remains a barren hellscape of "free to play" garbage that shows no signs of improving.

Unpopular opinion: all the best Star Wars games were released prior to 1999 and no matter how hard we try, our collective cultural consciousness of the franchise will never be rid of the taint of the prequels (and now the sequels). I've been playing the old Jedi Knight games a little bit and while they're very dated, it just feels nice to remember the grungy, lived-in sci-fi aesthetic that Star Wars used to evoke.

I like how the 360's D-Pad had corners on it for multidirectional inputs. It wasn't as bad as people said it was, just needed some getting used to.

Fun fact, that goes way back. The D-pad on the 1985 Sega Master System looked like this:

Nnnnnnnnnnnope nope nope nope nope. Not for anything that needs precision, anyway. They more or less redeemed themselves with the Xbox One controller, at least, though it's still turbo gay those controllers aren't backwards compatible with 360.

Speaking of Xbox One controller compatibility, why is it so fucking terrible on PC? It's Microsoft hardware on a Microsoft OS using Microsoft drivers and it's still a debacle getting that proprietary dongle to detect anything.
