Ubisoft Sellout - Bankruptcy Speedrun Any% Thread

Small funny thing I saw on Youtube recently. Whimsu made a video about his predictions for what will happen in the games industry in 2023:

Most of the predictions are rather down to Earth, plausible, and/or based on existing trends in the industry, but he had one "wild card" prediction. One that was more out there and less likely, though not impossible, and his wild card prediction was that Nintendo would buy Ubisoft due to Ubisoft's flagging fortunes. He starts talking about it at 3:14 into the video.

I've watched some Rainbow6 Siege streams recently, and apparently there are/were collaborations with the Nier games, and even WWE, in the form of operator skins.

Is Ubisoft that desperate financials-wise, to whore out it's license to make those kinds of collaborations? Or did they see the money Epic Games makes with Fortnite's collaborations, and wanted to do the same with Rainbow6?

i raise your recommendation to blood dragon.
it's quick as skydiving sex and equally satisfying, the ending being awful is meh but hey it's expected since it was during a time of transition from ubisoft.

this nigga sums up BD fairly easily

It is the near future... THE APOCALYPSE HAS HAD AN APOCALYPSE!

Yes, the rest of it is that shamelessly cheesy and over the top and it is delicious. The shotgun is especially fun once you upgrade it all the way. No spoilers!

they scaled down their lastest AC and one of the guillemots literally said to the dev team that it was in their hands to not fuck it up and spend less (the comments of that news always push for the sexual abuse thing though, i wonder why... oh wait, tencent).

so yeah, they are pretty fucked financially.

I hate Fitgirl releases, mostly because for me the installation time is like four or five times what they say it is. Any other repack is lightning fast by comparison.

Armstrong was a Templar who decided to end the millennia-long Templar/Assassin game by burning everything down.

Change my mind.
Fitgirl is fine, its retards not understanding a simple bit of maths.

If you have slow internet, use fitgirl style repacks. Its longer on the install, but your download speed is shit so its still quicker.

From a real country with good internet speeds and cheap storage? then get a non-compressed version as its quick to download for you and the install is quick as well.

Thats it, pick based on what you need. Neither is the wrong answer, just whatever suits you.

Ubisoft has been doing this for a while, they even had a collaboration with Girl's Frontline a while back

I'm surprised Ubisoft is still around as an AAA publisher. I guess Rainbow Six: Siege is keeping them afloat.

I predict that Skull & Bones will be Ubisoft's biggest flop yet. At best, it'll be a reworked Assassin's Creed: Black Flag because of its ship combat. Even so, it'd be competing with Rare's Sea of Thieves. Who is even excited about Skull & Bones?

All of their games lately have been glorified shopping malls ready to sell players gameplay boosts and cosmetics to overcome the grind they've created. They had a good thing going with reviving Assassin's Creed into a hack and slash but failed to differentiate it from any other open world game, internal or not.

Best thing they could do is sell off their IPs into Game Pass and PS+. Why spend full price for the same gameplay loop multiple times over?

I really hope Sony doesn't buy square though I feel like it will.

That's the one prediction that I don't want to come true. What gives me hope is that people have been claiming that Sony are going to buy other companies (or their IP) for years. Companies like Konami. It hasn't happened yet, largely, and that's probably due to Sony's unstable financial situation (they have a lot of debt they have accumulated) and the fact that they already have numerous flagging divisions.

Who were you hoping would buy it? Every other option seems like they would put most of the franchises in limbo after purchase.
Nintendo would, ironically, probably be the safest bet. They are the one company which could buy Square Enix that would clean the company up in terms of leadership and management. They'd also not pursue any of the shittier ideas that Square has latched onto in recent years, like NFTs and live service games.

Can any gaming company be held more responsible in ushering the "third person action-exploration game with basic stealth and a RPG mechanics"?

Considering what Nintendo regularly does to their non Mario franchises like Metroid or Starfox I'll not exactly jump off joy if they take over. It's also why I don't see them buying Square Enix, nintendo only ever reluctantly step out of their comfort zone, and having to manage Square Enix and its studios is way out of their comfort zone

Things change. I would have considered Nintendo publishing Bayonetta outside their comfort zone at one point, but here we are, two games published by Nintendo later. Nintendo are best when they don't play it safe. Its how Nintendo bought Retro Studios and Monolith Soft, and we got Metroid Prime and Xenoblade.

Blood Dragon was great not just because it hit that perfect 80s cheese aesthetic at the height of 80s nostalgia (before it went stale), but because it was Far Cry 3 with all the fat trimmed away and infinite sprint.

You say that like it's a bad thing. That's basically what everyone wanted, the problem is they didn't want to wait a literal fucking decade for it

I'm not sure it will, because aside from technically being pirate games they don't really seem to have anything gameplay wise in common.

On the subject of Ubisoft being shit I give you The Division 2:

Only announce your test server a day and a half before it goes live
Fuck up the preload
Only add a couple of new weapons/gear pieces to the game
They're so fucking broken there's no way to functionally test them anyway (there's a sniper rifle whose entire gimmick revolves around marking targets while scoped in, except the scope didn't work)
Close PTS after just 4 days with zero notice
new season is due in <2 weeks, which means with console cert times they have just over a week to unfuck it.

It's doubly funny how dogshit their communication is given they hired a new community manager just last year. Turns out a retarded and/or literal autist diversity hire is bad at her job, who knew?

Sony buying it would at least mean that there's a chance for them to still release Square Enix games for other consoles, or at least PC. Nintendo buying Square Enix would mean Nintendo exclusive forever, so no thank you. I'd honestly prefer if no one bought Square Enix because I'm sick of everything being consolidated under the same three companies.
