The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Fucking what? You better share some of that rabbit hole for me now.
Pedro Pascal was born into the Balmaceda family from his father side, a rich aristocratic family that has been involved with the politics of Chile since nearly their independence from Spain. Why Pedro calls himself Pascal instead of Balmaceda I don't know, maybe he's trying to hide his family or origin.
His ancestor was the 10th president of Chile (who died from an allege suicide), and I believe he was named after this man who might have also been his ancestor.
His mom was the niece of 28th President of Chile Salvador Allende (who also died from an allege suicide when he was ovethrown by Mi General Augusto Pinochet), when the Pinochet coup happened his family had to flee Chile otherwise there could have been a universe where Pedro Pascal's parents were given a free one way helicopter trip before he was even born.

So he isn´t a minority that got off the streets but rather a rich kid whose family got 109´d?

Watched the episode. It just seemed... slow I guess. Maybe because you weren't controlling the characters so the time seemed to pass slowly. Maybe they'll get to it but also unsure how it would have infected people that quickly without the spores from the game without some other transmission method. Not bad enough to hate watch, maybe mild-dislike-watch.

Exactly that, though there is no doubt far more hidden depths with him and his family than what is publicly known.

Plus he compared ICE to concentration camps, but that's totally fine and completely different from Gina Carrano, because Orange Man Bad. Also brave and strong enough to put his pronouns in his Twitter name, in case anyone wasn't sure.

People still listen to Geeks and Gamers?

Remember the dude praised The Last Jedi on release and only changed his mind when it was obvious everyone hated it. Dude goes wherever the views are.

I forgot Im still subbed so I still get the ocassional video suggestions I ignore but that one caught me by surprise and I decided to check it out.

The actor that plays Ellie is one of the ugliest children I've ever seen. She has a lumpy asymmetrical potato shaped head, piggy sunken eyes, and a perpetual sneer that makes it look like she's constantly smelling shit.

I know this is a petty complaint but she looks so jarringly bad compared to ever other character and her acting is nothing special so it could be literally anyone else.

She was the yass queen slay kid from game of thrones so I assume she knows someone or something

Are we sure she isn't potato?
Pure bong genes.

Sometimes actors use a different name because it's easier to pronounce or maybe they think it will allow them to get a role easier. Louis Ferreira for example (born Luis Ferreira) used to be credited as Justin Louis until he decided to use his real name.

HBO's The Last of Us premiere takes disappointingly few creative risks

When I fell asleep half-way through the first episode of The Last of Us yesterday evening—I was very tired, so I can't blame this on the show—I probably didn't need to rewind it. It sticks so closely to the source material that I could have filled in the blanks myself. Like Tyler said in his TLoU impressions(opens in new tab) last week, "At times, it's like watching a supercut of the game's story on YouTube." I guess I'm just wondering why it exists. It has nothing to say and shows us nothing we haven't seen countless times before. It slavishly recreates the game's story beats, but not the parts that would make it stand out from any other post-apocalyptic journey. The biggest mystery for me is why it's gone down so incredibly well. People seem to absolutely love it. Maybe it's enough that it's an adaptation that's not a total mess. One of the benefits of not taking any risks is it reduces the chances of everyone hating the weird creative decisions. But—and maybe this is just the contrarian in me—I'd much rather watch a very flawed but interesting show than something that takes no chances.
LOL. PCGamer is known for being an extra big Current Thing Enjoyer, so to see them shit on TLOU show is hilarious.

From the reaction (or lack thereof) in this thread, it seems it is a pretty standard adaptation of the game, which is not a bad thing. It's hard to mess up the beginning of TLOU TBH, it had competent writers behind it after all. I think the problem will start once we start seeing the seeds of what Neil wants to pull with Joel. Unless they wanna play it straight, but I don't think Abby would be well received if they don't demonize Joel. I guess she will have to play with a lot of puppies for people to like her.

I would love if they had the balls to explore a storyline where Ellie has to contend with the fact that she might be able to pass down her immunity through child birth vs her being a lesbian. With people calling her out for being selfish. That might be too uncomfortable for 2023 shows, though.

I've seen this criticism or idea quite a few times now and it makes no sense, there's no conflict because getting knocked up as a lesbian just means a few monthly dates with a turkey baster. Even in our mostly functional society now lesbians DIY insemination all the time.

This being the key part of the statement. But I guess I see your point.

It's not really criticism, just an idea that could be interesting to tackle. Even if it's just a matter of insemination, it would still be an interesting dilema to explore, if not for her homosexuality, then you can still position it like she is not interested in having kids but she could give birth to inmune babies. The sheer fact that the whole world could benefit from your having a kid is an interesting premise in and of itself.

People aren't going to have the opportunity to call her out for anything. Ellie's three options in a realistic scenario are 1, she has kids willingly, 2, she gets chained to a bed to get raped every ten months, and 3, manage to kill herself first try, because she isn't going to get a second due to option 2. Homosexuality being tolerated in an extinction scenario is preposterous, not even considering that Ellie is the best chance that humanity survives.
