Fallout series

Kill the Brotherhood, they're plotting to overthrow you.
That's only if you go with the Institute, right? Out of all the paths you choose, the Institute path means you have to kill them since Elder Maxson thinks Synths are the devil and must be purged. I have heard they can be spared in the Railroad path but I could be wrong or that was a bug.

I had to kill the Brotherhood in the Railroad path...

You can kill them in the Railroad and Minutemen endings as well. The BoS basically wants the Railroad dead and their tech stolen from them, and the Minutemen don't like the idea of foreign invaders installing a technology based militant cult.

Has the weather seemed less random and more redundant since the survival update?

I seem to get rain, fog, and haze more than anything else.

I'm thinking of creating a character specifically for Dar Harbor/ a character to control animals. Any tips?

I didn't like how choked out the central DC ruins were, I mean from an apocalyptic mood it makes sense that blown-out structures fall into one another and block access, but in free-roam logic it isn't all cracked up to be. The underground metro stations got tedious.
I liked the metro tunnels. I liked the labyrinth of tunnels that intersected the city and trying to piece together how everything was connected and how to get places. Of course it probably doesn't hurt that I loved Metro 2033.

I think 4 did a good job of building a large urban environment with resorting to dividing it up into several different areas or having most of it being a barren landscape of rubble.

The major problem of Fallout 3 is that New Vegas came out afterwards.

It was GOTY when it came out and it was absolutely fantastic. Sure there were flaws and the game has aged but it also came out nearly 10 years ago. A lot of the whining about Fallout 3 is revisionism from people who played hundreds of hours in the first place.

I played NV before 3

I gave 3 a couple of tries but it never really pulled me in. The last time I played it I was out of the vault for only 10 minutes and got approached by some guys who claimed to have heard of my good deeds across the wasteland and started shooting.

That's when I quit for good.
