or it's interesting but ultimately useless trivia
True on the surface but some trivia can inspire and inform children to pursue their passions, besides just history. I think it’s fair to say that public education could try to more “flavor up” history discussion with more of the interesting details without wasting kids energy learning about the Mali gold rush

He's really not wrong though, a lot of the federal overreach we're seeing today can trace it's roots back to the precedent set by Abe's expansions of federal power in order to fight his war. I'm not saying the CSA was justified or anything but I would agree that Abe opened a serious can of worms with his response to it.
I agree that the Civil War did help ferment the federal overreach that we see nowadays but I wouldn't necessarily call the Civil War "his war" since at that point the war was going to happen due to the massive distrust between the North and South. All it took was a spark in the munitions plant to start the war.

I see it as Abe doing what he needed to. Maybe it's because I've actually been to the museum in Springfield, grew up in Illinois, but when you realize the British were ready to invade, congress hated you, and every general until Grant and Sherman were idiots, yeah it makes sense you'd kick some slaver ass by mobilizing the entire country and shutting up the LIBERAL press, I think it's justified. I hate this rewrite of history because everyone is mad that Abe used government to kick some spoiled assholes up the ass, which is what it was. The only problem was that he didn't live long enough to seal up the power. Thank you booth for creating the hell we live in Today.

The racism stuff would've still happen anyways, it's not like the north was a bastion of tolerance either. Just ask the Irish and Italians and Natives.

Oh I'm not saying he would have magiked away racism. Far from it. But reconstruction would have gone smoother, instead of Johnson taking over and creating a bigger rift between north and south than before.

Right, the thing that most critics of Lincoln's supposed tyranny is the context of what was going on. I'm sure any leader that faced what Lincoln was up against, they'd probably do the same things Lincoln did in order to win. Booth really did jump the gun with killing Abe since he was ironically the best choice for the South come Reconstruction.

Also I rewatched Rageaholic's and saw he called Lincoln a monarchist. I don't know about y'all but I think even the most stubborn anti-Lincolnite would see that's a bullshit statement. Then again, what'd you expect from a guy that dresses up like Dylan Klebold.

The Constitution actually gives the president the right to suspend habeas corpus in the event of invasion or open rebellion when the public safety is threatened. And a monarchist? What is he basing that on?

From what I could gather, the criticism was that Lincoln invoked and used War Powers without approval from Congress. Whereas previous presidents waited until the approval from Congress at a set time to use some of the War Powers.

In this regard, he says Lincoln acts like a dictatorial monarch passing judgment and rulings on high, above the legislature that represents the will of the people.

I would argue that waiting for Congress to do or pass anything in the time sensitive situation that is a Civil War is idiotic and that had Lincoln waited on Congress to do anything than the South would have had the time to cement their situation and march on Washington.

Yes, Lincoln is responsible for expanding the federal power and centralizing the government. But to lay all the blame at the feet of Lincoln when you have power mongers like FDR and Lyndon Johnson who go even further than Lincoln is willful hatred that gives more responsibility and culpability than what is historically correct.

Oh I do know he's had plenty to say about Johnson and FDR, he just hasn't given them a dedicated video yet (unless it was yeeted off youtube, i'll check rumble later).
