Team Fortress 2 Community - A free-to-play dress up game for grownups, gameplay fully automated! Waiting to be mercy killed...

One of the trends I've seen was making the game more competitive from tf2ubers saying removing random crits, having a casual 6s or tweaking the rules/weapons that match competitive(not official competitive but the community one ). Thinking that will make people come to play the game and Valve to make more content saving the game. Failing to realize what happened to Overwatch which killed it. Or Tf2 gets the case of melee, making the same characters/ loadouts the standard and making the rest useless. Failing to realize that game is designed for fun (being different that the other shooters) and not to be taken too seriously.
Honestly, I'd play competitive if it were 9v9 highlander because that just genuinely feels more competitive to me and feels like an absolute radical departure from the usual formula we all are used to. That's just my opinion. TF2 is best enjoyed when you're not tryharding and laughing at your own deaths.
Of course the TF2ubers with a few thousand hours in the game would want random crits removed. How dare a game have a mechanic that lets new players occasionally get a kill on someone who treats Valve's War-Themed Hat Simulator like a job. TF2 at its best is an entertaining experience, not a 24/7 competitive sweatfest. I'm perfectly fine with people that like that type of gameplay though, however perhaps they could just use community servers that have what they want instead of trying to force it on the base game. Also, if you want to be a try hard so much just go to CS:GO where that type of player is appealed to more.
I find myself more annoyed by the random crit hate train than I am by the random crits themselves at this point. The vast majority of TF2 players only play the game to goof off, relax, or do stupid meme tactics. Very few people are interested in dedicating themselves to wanting to play a game competitively that has a trash comp mode and very little communication from the devs.

the most insulting part is when those same people view the community as just stubborn to play with new gamerules and format, rather than them simply enjoying the game as it is, a chaotic mess with unpredictable outcomes and a lot of bullshit.
so the solution comes to them that the only way to get what they want is to forcibly change the game to reflect their ideal of how TF2 should be played; that's how we got meet your match and the havoc that wrought on community servers and freedom of choice in ways to play the game.

instead of being able to pick a server with gamerules you liked, you now had to settle on the officially ran ruleset; instead of being able to freely join and leave a server whenever you wanted, you now had to complete an entire match or else you'd get locked out from playing the game temporarily (which was VERY quickly reversed after MyM); instead of being able to choose the team you wanted to play on, you now got auto assigned to one team and lost all non-random ways to fight your friends.

before meet your match, there was a tightly knit tf2 community server i was part of where we had inside jokes, recognised the names of regulars, and we even ran a couple of custom maps.
post meet your match, it very quickly fell apart as the server struggled to maintain any kind of consistent player count, and now not even a trace of that server and its community remains all because nobody wanted to or bothered to look beyond the casual matchmaker.

At this point VS Saxton Hale (and by extension Freak Fortress) is infinitely more fun to play than any official TF2 game modes. Can't be playing official game modes, be it casual or competitive, without a competitive shitter bitching and moaning about crits or, god forbids, using hated weapons like ass-raping medics with crit cabers.

Recently there was a massive leak containing all of the TF2 assets.

Mercenary Park was in development since 2009/2010 and it was on a mountain instead of tropical island.

The amount of unused shit in this leak is actually rage and depression inducing, good job Valve!!!!

Also really good to know they put literally zero effort into Jungle Inferno, using a unfinished map from 2009 and it definitely shows in the gameplay LOL

PS. GET FUCKED TRANNY HOARDERS

I miss OG orange Box TF2 so much it’s unreal. Never had any experience like it in online gaming, mature community and everything. Then came f2p, hats, furry freaks, microtransactions…
I live in a smaller country and we had a fairly tight-knit TF2 community which was pretty comfy (gamers around here are fucking obnoxious cunts so I always avoided playing on local servers like the plague), there was such a noticeable shift towards everything becoming a dumpster fire after the first free weekend I don't think I've ever since anything like it, naturally after each free weekend things got worse and worse.

IIRC, didn't Mercenary Park have to get edited due to how outdated it was? Now it makes sense why it was made back in 2009.

If anyone wants to download the TF2 leaks, or rather the entire "Valve Developer Repository", themselves here are the links:
Downloading the TF2 Leaks will be a total of 18GB but once unpacked will result in 60GB in size.
This website is a ROM preservationist site, but also has catalogued many video game leaks of the past (like Nintendo Gigaleak - https://myrient.erista.me/files/No-Intro/Nintendo - Misc/).
If you want someone who is still actively cataloguing all that is found for TF2, he has a Twitter account (@TF2CutContent).

The guy behind TF2CutContent is a lolcow in his own right, Accusing other TF2 spergs of being pedos and getting in slap fights with them.
He joined the Tyler McVicker thread here.

Seems like they're doing something bigger this year.
Probably gonna shut down the Valve TF2 servers with how they've treated the game over the years...
Maybe they'll do the right thing and end casual matchmaking and allow you to join Valve servers ad hoc again, or god forbid, bring back quickplay with community servers.

Nah, who am I kidding, they'll release an entire new game mode like Pass Time that will die in 90 days or less because its not TF2. At least Mann Vs Machine is fun (when you're not in a group of try-hards).
