Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Silly me expecting Game Freak to ever balance their Pokemon games. The powercreep keeps piling on.
Now to be fair, given the sheer number of pokemon available in the game even in Gen 3, we can't expect every single one to be viable competitively. Especially when legendaries blow most regular mons out the water anyway.

Hell, the battle gimmicks from gen 6 to now were implemented to help bring less popular mons to relevance, but ultimately only served to make the already good mons better.

They're all perfectly viable in the story battles.

Which reminds me, it's sad that Rapidash has mostly been hot garbage. In gen 1, it's obvious: Fire type with not much going for it = Bad.
Gen 2: Still pretty shitty.
Gen 3: If you can get Baton Pass on it, there's some use for it. Otherwise, it's not much to your team. Too many better fire types.
Gen 4: Introduction of Stealth Rock. Fucking lol.
Gen 5: Power creep, weather wars...lol
Gen 6 and beyond: JUST
Even Galarian Rapidash isn't very special. Too many better options.

A shame too, because Rapidash is cool as shit
They should at the very least give it some better abilities. Run Away on any fully-evolved Pokemon is a fucking war crime. Replace it with like Reckless, or something. Either that, and/or buff it's mediocre as fuck stats

Funny you mention Rapidash suffering from Gen 5 because of weather wars. Ironically, players were actually experimenting with Rapidash as a counter to weather users. Since it happened to have the perfect movepool to kill all 4 weather-setters. Flare Blitz obviously kills Abomasnow, but Rapidash also had Low Kick to kill Tyranitar, Wild Charge to kill Politoed and Drill Run to kill Ninetales. Of course, Rapidash still wasn't good. Just kinda funny that some players tried to make Rapidash work in Gen 5 OU of all places. Though, Rapidash does have a good movepool for a quadrupedal Pokemon. So it has that going for it, I guess...

Time for a new Update on my OR nuzlocke.
I'm at Route 114 now, ready to hit Meteor falls.
After a few unlucky deaths (Slakoth, Voltorb, Zigzagoon, Beautifly, Surskit and Poochyena) against crits from random trainers and Rival 2,
my team looks like this

Machop Lv. 20
Skarmory Lv. 20
Zangoose Lv. 21
Numel Lv. 24
Swellow Lv. 24
Marshtomp Lv. 26

Sadly no MVP Koffing for this run. :(

The Maxie fight on top of Mt. Chimney is the next major obstacle, in the remakes he is pretty nasty.
My team should be around Level 24-27 when i face him.
Taught Marshtomp water pledge over water gun in case Camerupt goes for amnesia on the switch.
The plan is to beat Mightyena with Machop and Zangoose, both equipped with persim berries.
Skarmory has to slowly whittle down Golbat while tanking it's moves.
When the camel get's sent out, Skarmory will bait out a fire move, i switch into marshtomp and win.
If confusion messes me up, there is always a pre-burned Guts Swellow with Facade in the back.

Honestly, is Rapidash really that bad? Its base stat distribution easily lets it fit the archetype of a glass cannon (and a speedy one at that).

With the kind of type coverage it got overtime along with access to flare blitz, I can see it take down 1-3 pokemon at least before it drops dead. Just slap a focus sash on that bad boy for the extra hit points and you're set.

I'm planning to replace the edgy kitten with a special attacker, probably Magneton, but I will ensure to give it the best life it can possibly have. <3

It's not necessarily bad, there is just a lot of competition, namely Infernape, Arcanine and Darmanitan.
They do the things rapidash does but better.

100 base Attack/SpAttack is extremely mediocre in modern-day Pokemon. Usable, sure, but you'll probably want more if you don't have super powerful moves or any good offensive abilities to back it up. 105 Speed also isn't too great for being Rapidash's highest stat
Also, as Executive Petrel already stated, other Pokemon fill Rapidash's intended role way better. The only thing Rapidash has going for it as a Fire-Type glass cannon is maybe Hypnosis

Base 100? Extremely mediocre? No way. Compared to the starters and legendaries, sure, but Rapidash is a somewhat common pokemon. Base 100 atk with 105 speed may not be meta relevant, but that's nothing to scoff at.

I'd say that's pretty decent, but yeah, there are better options.

Rapidash evolves at like Level 40. That's pretty late. I expect something a little higher than 100 and 105 being a late-evolving Pokemon's highest stats. The only time Rapidash was ever all that good ingame was in Diamond and Pearl. A game with like two Fire-Types, as mentioned previously in this thread. In every other game Rapidash appears in, you get way better options for Fire-Types way earlier
Of course, not every Pokemon needs to be competitively-viable. It's just a shame that so many Pokemon are poorly-designed from a gameplay perspective, and they almost never get fixed by Game Freak. I could name many examples of poorly-designed Pokemon similar to Rapidash. Especially from earlier gens. It's by no means an issue limited to one Pokemon

Rapidash is one of those 'mons that desperately needs another evolution to make it good.

Imagine if it got one where it turned into a pegasus, and became Fire/Fairy, or something.
Not even a new evo. Just a few stat boosts and a better ability than Run Away
I'd save the pegasus idea for some kind of regional form. Have it be part-Flying, with Flying-Type STAB moves such as Drill Peck and Brave Bird

A straight buff to Rapidash itself isn't likely as Game Freak have yet to straight up tweak the stats of mon without restricting it to a regional variant.

An evo is probably the only way Rapidash can get the help it needs.

Or hell, even a split-evolution based on the two variants.

The Kantonian variant becomes the Fire/Ghost Coltergeist while the Galarian one becomes the Psychic/Ghost Phantasmare...goria.

I tried.
Galarian Rapidash already fills that fairy type niche and is already a dual type. Although, a Fire/Flying pegasus rapidash would be cool.

Hypno and Arbok desparately need a regional form or an evolution. too.
Arbok is so close to being a good pokemon. He has a great ability in Intimidate and a lot of useful moves such as glare, coil, and sucker punch, but his stats are so mediocre. An evolution that just beefs up all of his stats would do him wonders, hell he could even stay pure poison since its a pretty great defensive typing.

There actually were some stat changes for Gen 7, but they were all small. For instance, Arbok's attack increased from 85 to 95.
They actually first did it in Gen 6, but as you mentioned they only changed stats by 10. Mostly for Gen 1 pokemon, but they buffed pokemon from as recent as Gen 5. In Gen 7 they got a bit crazier with the highest change in BST being 40 for Masquerain (SpA and Spe), and a tie between Swellow (SpA) and Farfetch'd (Att) for highest stat change of 25.

Despite what I said previously, I am still planning my theoretical hack.

This time, I talk abou th evolutions. I had t overly simply them due to the limitations of the hardware and my GBC hacking skills.

I tried to have the Poison, Sun, and Ice Stones have more than one use, though I ended up having the Fire Stone have only one use. I could have used the Fire Stone on Charcadet, but I figured tha the Sun Stone would have made a better contras to the Moon Stone-powered Ceruledge, since Ceruledge is an unscrupulous knight while Armarouge is an honourable knight.
The above is the reason why Yanmega evolves wi the Sun Stone. I could have had #218 evolve wi the Sun Stone, but, since #217 and #218 are snow bunnies, that would imply tha they would melt.
Misdreavus evolving wi the Moon Stone is because I did not wan to add a Dusk Stone and a subsequent Dawn Stone and Shiny Stone.
Raitora never got any evolution data outside of the currently-unknown Pokémon Red and Green beta. I fel that a Thunder Stone fits.
I ended up making Beta Wooper the 'baby' form of Wooper, then having Beta Wooper evolve into different formes depending on the stone. A result is that Beta Wooper is Water/Ground instead of just Water.
Any trad evolutions, now use the Link Cable from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, which is used the same way a Stone is used. Ditto does not need to hold a Metal Coat.
Other evolutionary items include the Paleo Feed (based on the Paleolithic diet) and Soylent (based on the 'futuristic', soy-based meal replacement). Paleo Feed turns a Pokémon into its Past Paradox version, while Soylent turns a Pokémon into its Future Paradox version. You have to bea the game before you can ge these. However, the 'wrong' food costs a lot more compared to the 'right' food: Soylent is far mor expensive in Pokémon Scarlet but cheaper in Pokémon Violet.

I switched any Let's Go evolutions to friendship evolutions, since the amount of walking you would have to do with a friendship-based evolution should mimick the walking aspect of Let's Go evolutions.
#223 evolving into #224 through friendship i supposed to reflec the 'nurturing' aspect of the Pokémon, which are based on delivery storks. I later alised that #223 is a Baby Pokémon and would hav evolved with igh friendship, anyways.
The same reason is behind Gimmighoul evolving into Gholdengo: you teac him to be a lot mor friendlier.
The same reason is behind Dunsparce volving into Dudunsparce: he got an evolution out of the love the fanbase gave him.
The same reason is behind Greavard evolving into Houndstone instead of a Moon Stone: you are giving Greavard th affection Greavard craves. More importantly, friendship is the only time-based trigger.
Because Palafin really depends on his ability, I decided upon splitting Palafin's formes into separat evolutions. Evolving Finizen into Zero Palafin only requires the level-up, whereas evolving Hero Palafin requires friendship, whic should mimick the social aspect of leveling up him in the Union Circle. Then again, this could reflect how simply having superpowers does not make you a superhero, whereas you teac him to love others. The reason why I had him evolve in the day is because I felt weird having only a night-tim evolution without a day evolution. Palafin got hat evolution since Palafin is an Ekpy of Superman, who ended up being the day-based counterpart of the night-based Batman.
Conversely, evolving Primeape into Annihilape with low frienship i supposed to reflec the resentment Primeape gets upon evolving into Annihilape. That is also horrifying, but at least canon.

I fel that keeping the beta nd final evolution lines of Girafarig separate was appropriate. I made Johtonian Girafarig evolve into Farigiraf with equal Attack and Defense in reference to the symmetry of Girafarig's name and esign.
I would have had Kirlia evolve via gender, bu there is no gender check when evolving, whereas having different-gendered versions of the same Pokémon would waste valuable Pokémon slots. I plan on checking on the gender check later, though.
Bisharp evolves into Kingambit with LV 64 since the Pawniard line has a chess motif, and there are 64 squares on a chessboard. I did not want oo high a level, since that would make Kingambit impractical until th end of the game. (The 'wrong' Paradox formes are more a prize to the player.)
The level evolutions of Gyarth and #217 was just me putting what felt right.

Due to all the talk about underwhelming Pokemon, it gave me a thought. Gen 10 would be a good time to stop introducing new species lines all together and only release new regional variants or evolutions to lines that desperately need a boost. You could, very, very easily pick out 70-120 examples of drastically underpowered Pokemon lines and start giving them the buffs they desperately need to be competitive at some level. Sadly there's not as much merchandising in this regard so that's definitely a pipe dream.

I had completely forgotten that I have Pokemon Crystal on my 3DS and started playing again... Then I remembered Gen2 has the best clone glitch of any gen... And those clones can be transfered to Bank, then to Home. Needless to say, I'm trying to SR for a Shiny Celebi because if I can just get 1, I have infinite, and they're good trade fodder if Celebi gets added to S/V. Hell, the Home phone app has trading too, so they could also be really useful for getting spare legendaries trading that way.

After that, I'm going for Lugia and Ho-Oh, then doing the chain shiny breeding Gen2 is known for. If I had Gold or Silver, I would just ACE for everything, but Crystal is my only option at present and ACE does not work in that version to my knowledge. Might ACE my VC-Red for some Mews at some point though.
