Oscars 2023

I was hoping Guillermo's Pinocchio was gonna take it, but it looks like Puss in Boots might. Can't say for certain.

I'm at least happy knowing nothing Disney made this year was notable enough for a guaranteed Oscar. Maybe if Turning Red was a 9/11 biopick drama it would have gone differently.

I really want Everything Everywhere all at once to sweep. But its gonna be the fablemens. Movie about filmmaking. About one of the old boys. And Jewish. Come on.
Good lord that movie really is the most aggressively Jewish shit ever:

The movie's true hero:

I think Argentinian movie is gonna win because of The Message™. I dunno how accurate it is, but I've seen RWers before debunking the narratives of the missing/killed people. Same with Chile. So, it's basically the 6 Gorillions situation, but people are less sensitive.

The last time I watched The Oscars Seth MacFarlane was the host and he had Captain Kirk as a guest.

How the heck I remember the big Oscar musical performances of the 90s, but I don't remember this that was, when? 10 years ago at most?

Yeah, when I saw the mention of this movie, my first thought was "It must be about muh dictatorship and muh disappeared". Seems I'm not wrong.
It's amazing how every other audiovisual work in Chile has to do with Pinochet's regime. And in Brazil, 90% of these works also have to do with typical progressive talking points or reminiscing about the awful past. Even in the rare occasion the Academy recognizes a work from over here, like City of God or Central Station, you can still see the ideological creep in them if you look close enough. Then we collectively scratch our heads as to why we are in such a dire situation in the culture department.

Anyways, fuck the Oscars and fuck Jimmy Kimmel.

I wouldn't mind if Elvis won anything in any of its categories, even if it wasn't a favorite movie of mine. And I don't care who wins Best Animated Feature as long as it's not Turning Red.

Just make good films, Hollywood, holy shit.

We all secretly want the budget for green Falcons to increase by 800% over here.

Nice to see Disneys faggy films such as Lightyear or Strange World get completely forgotten. Even the self righteous tards at the Oscar forgot about them. Otherwise, it looks just as worthless as last year. Hopefully Top Gun gets some wins due to being the only worthwhile blockbuster released this year.

if i had to guess which movie was gonna win best picture, it'll either go to all quiet on the western front, avatar 2, women talking, or tar.

I've watched Till, and it's not a badly made movie at all, but while the story is powerful in real life, the movie is kind of by the numbers. I left thinking a documentary on the same subject would be more impact and engaging than the movie. The only black movie that I would call snubbed is Nope for best Cinematography but the cinematographer for that was white.

But Avatar 2 getting any nods is a fucking joke.
Apparently Fablemans has some subtext where the lead is bullied and falls for said bully but the film isn't fag enough. At least that's what I've seen. I just know that that ugly Canadian kid is gonna be an insufferable fixture in Hollywood.

It's Spielberg making a movie about his childhood. Of course it's aggressively Jewish, just like it was when Woody Allen did the same thing.

Pleased Maverick is in the running - it's great, it really is, and it's also a miracle it's as great as it is. Elvis was far too ADHD for me, but the lead guy was very good. The Banshees of Inisherin is also very strong, but if they're going to go bleak they'll go for All Quiet On The Western Front instead. Tár is impressive, but not the sort of thing that wins, and I think other films on the list are better. Cate Blanchett in it is the only real challenge to Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress, though - not that I've seen the other three, but if there's one award I'd be most certain about, it's that one, and it's very deserved. I'm hoping Everything Everywhere All At Once does really well, but I've only seen half the films, and The Fabelmans does have that 'film about films, film-making and filmgoing' thing going for it. Almost surprised they didn't nominate Babylon or Empire of Light for that reason - but to be fair, Babylon is only great for half of it, and then turns to shit.

The ceremony doesn't matter, especially after the last couple of years, but the Oscars themselves are still important. Frequently wrong, sure, another Hollywood wankfest, sure. But when any of these winners die, that's the title - '[x], Oscar Winner, Dead at [y].' They have influence, which isn't good but is true. If you can say one thing about the Will Smith slap, though, it's probably put a full stop to the black pandering they've done for the last two years, especially the ones after the Summer of Love. Their diversity has always been far more liberal anyway, where it counts just as much if the winner/nominee is asian, latino or really just foreign in any way, not just Bipoc pandering that has been the demand recently.

As a side-note, there's a really good scene at the start of Tár where Cate Blanchett's character is teaching, and this black guy who calls himself a pangender BIPOC says he doesn't like dead cis white guys like Bach, and she spends the next five minutes schooling him on his presentism and hypocrisy (not using those words) until he calls her a fucking bitch and storms out. It's a great representation of every 'discussion' you've ever had with an idpol-obsessed moron, from the starting condescending superiority, to the lack of facts to back anything up, to the flouncing and insults when their bullshit is exposed, and it's highly satisfying.
