There's been quite a lot to cover this week, but he could also just fuck around instead and it'd be equally enjoyable.

Anyone got a link to DonSyndrom>? I have been getting teased it in old epi's and don't think I have seen it in the old Scars content. Redbar is mostly a hate show, sometimes a gossip show, othertimes a musical, and occassioanlly a movie.

i've been lurking in this thread for about a week now, but that guy is so interesting i thought i'd make an account
i think he probably used to be a fan way back but he's now a real-life schizo who lacks all self awareness... i mean you can't be this knowledgeable about redbar (pics from when mike was a kid, random pics of him with other people just saved at the ready, the encyclopedia of information in his brain, etc.) without devoting basically your entire life to it
that being said i do find some of his posts entertaining and funny (seriously), but it's eerie knowing that he cannot be a functioning human being

nah, i watched some of the most recent ep's coverage of the salvo thing and i found it to be dreadful. just completely drawn out cringe. he was truly scrambling and struggled to articulate his desire to play a video about the drama, like he even needed a reason, idk i found it to be strange. the music video "the humbling of salvo pisscakes" was outstandingly unfunny, childish, and very autistic. i would have expected mike to make fun of the guy who spent so much time making something as foolish as that, but since he's a fan of the show i kind of get him not wanting to hurt his feelings - but mike has always gone in on retarded fans. i think deep down mike knew how utterly 'tistic that video was, but he was too scared to speak his true feelings for some reason
season 20 in general has been pretty shit in my opinion, and i'm not even an oldschool listener who likes the "old mike". i have never seen an ep before like 2019, i've never bothered. seasons 18 and 19 are hilarious and it seems mike has lost his touch sadly. to anyone who says season 20 is the best one yet, or even good, i believe you are COPING very hard, sorry, it's nothing compared to what it once was. and if you do somehow genuinely enjoy the show i envy you because i just don't get the appeal anymore

I listened to REDBAR pretty religiously from season 17 on. I went back and listened to a decent bit before that as well (mostly seasons 15 & 16). When REDBAR first went away, for maybe the first two or three months, I was really itching for new eps. But eventually I kinda got content with it being gone, and when it finally did come back I was almost indifferent. Eventually I did try to get into season 20, but so far I'm only 5 episodes in, and will probably never catch up. This has happened before with shows that have gone on hiatus (Metokur's streams and DVDASA are two that come to mind. The former going away in mid 2020 and coming back in 2021, the latter going away in 2013 and returning in 2014. Both were shows/streams I listened to religiously pre-hiatus, but couldn't really get into post-hiatus) so maybe it's just me, but my general impression is that a lot of other people are having trouble getting back into the show as well. It's a shame, because REDBAR was really one of the last guys around who didn't "pull any punches", so to speak, but nothing lasts forever I guess. There'll always be something else to keep me entertained in my spare time.

I can't believe how shameless Michael is with his lies. He let reality escape him briefly, but then he quickly caught himself and tried to backtrack and explain away the truth. This midget has a habit of letting his mask slip while intoxicated, giving us a glimpse of the real Michael. What made you think it was okay to flirt with Salvatore behind Julienne's back, Michael? We all thought you were a principled, straight man, but I guess you misled us, too.

Season 18 was shockingly good. Season 19 was decent. Season 20 is so boring. There have been ups & downs, but it's too much anymore. I'm 3-4 hours in, listening live & it's too boring to even keep my attention. I love redbar and am simply bummed out that even Mike turned into a bore. Mike (and even Salvo) KNOW what's funny and how to do a good show. What is stopping them from just doing a good show like he/they know how? serious question

Agree. Back then it was like more natural now its just bumbling to make it 8 hours let me show you my lighters let me tell you what I eat yesterday and this fake interest in kanye still going strong - great season

I get it lol.

I tried watching free eps from the website and probably spent 3x the normal bandwidth seeking around to try to get a clean non-buffering pipe since it kept hanging on buffer. So I started downloading and muxing them for personal consumption: even my shit chromecast can handle casting a 1440p tab from my PC of just playing the video, and after a bit of initial stuttering it plays way smoother than off the Redbar site.

The latest episode isn't scars only, but the instructions here are a guess for scars only content. For the free episodes you can skip all the cookie auth shit (start with step 3 and no need for cookie auth flags in 5).

For the lurkers, these steps, assuming they work at all and I'm reasonably confident that they should, will not work to get scars content if you don't have scars. This is only for downloading content you have paid for and wish to watch without constantly fidgeting with the remote when the pipe to Mike's server breaks for the 20th time in 10 minutes.
  • First, figure out cookie authentication for yt-dlp, typically there's a flag you set to point at the location on disk of a text file containing the relevant auth shit. There's extensions that download cookies for chrome based browsers as text files, and I strongly recommend using a clean browser session cleared of all prior data (it may be easiest to download and use a different chrome based browser like Opera or Brave just to make your life easier if you plan to do a lot of this). In my experience I had the least issues when I snagged ALL the cookies rather than "cookies for this site", this will make more sense when you see how the cookie extensions work.
  • Second, log in to scars, THEN download your cookies from the browser.
  • Third, pop open the inspector in your browser and find the "network" tab. Then navigate to the page for the episode you want to download. In the "network" tab, find the filter box, put in "m3u8" (though I find "m3" finds what you need most of the time). You should see an hls.m3u8 and two or so main.m3u8. NOTE: the number and names of the m3u8 files change somewhat prior to season 20, so you might need to do a little poking around in the inspector to figure out what the right m3u8 files are for those older episodes.
  • Fourth, copy the request URL for hls.m3u8 and and whichever "main" actually contains the audio. To figure out which has the audio, if you click on the entry in inspector details should pop up in a section on the right side of the inspector pane, note the "request URL", if scars is anything like the free episodes one of the "main" entries URL will have "480p" in the path: you do not want this URL, you want the one with "eng" in the path, that's the audio.
  • Fifth, feed these two m3u8 URLs along with whatever options you want to yt-dlp using the cookie auth method. You will also probably want to make sure it only downloads the video size you want, the hls.m3u8 contains 5 different resolutions and "best" will probably choose 1440 which has an average file size of 18gb or so.
  • Sixth, mux the video and audio you downloaded into an MP4 using FFMPEG or other software that can deal with that. Just be careful of any options that mucks with the framerate, Mike uses 60fps so changing it during mux can cause nasty audio desync.

There is probably a way that's more efficient that automates the muxing and separate downloading, but these are the steps without skipping any I can think of that should get you there.

Hopefully that explanation at least gives you the words needed to google out the problems you might encounter. And remember, if in doubt, try clearing all browser data and try the cookie download again for authed download attempts. I found that fixed 99% of the odd seemingly inexplicable problems I had with other sites that required auth.

does anybody else hate the glasses? i hope mike takes them off some time.. wasn't mike also the person who called out every other podcaster who wears glasses like jesse p.s. and a couple other guys? i don't care if mike's eyes have the hyperpigmentation of an asshole, i want them off!
