I don't know anything about that show, but the historical Claudius was considered an idiot for much of his life. His reputation saved him during the reign of Tiberius and the insane (alleged) sister-fucker Caligula who also famously appointed one of Meigh's equine ancestors as consul. Oh, and the person she is apparently quoting is Livia, who's often accused of poisoning her husband Augustus, the first Roman emperor, to secure the throne for her own son. Shitty community colleges (like the one Ralph went to) have students watch I, Claudius for their “ancient history” curriculum credit because their students are too fucking stupid to read actual classics or even the Graves’ novel. Never mind I, Claudius is “historical fiction”. Decent high schools have teenagers watch I, Claudius for English Lit or drama classes, but Gunt never went to High School.
