Texas did not separate from the national grid, it was never part of it. The fact that Rick accurately noted there are two national grids should tell you something. What Pat does not understand is that the grids built inward from the population centers along the coasts, if you look at a map and unlike Fat can locate the coasts you may also be able to locate Texas and notice how far it is from them. (Especially Boston-NYC where the Eastern grid started.) This helps explain why Texas built its own grid. (Though, yes, they are somewhat protective of its status like everything Texas. That also said, grids have nothing to do with why local power outages happen.)While the grid in Texas has it's issues and the state government has failed to resolve the issue the current situation is due to a freezing rain event, The lines and nearby trees get covered with ice and take down power lines.

Most homes in the population centers rely on electric heat. The event in 2021 was due to the bitter cold that caused a strain on the grid.
