War Thunder - WWII-Vietnam war Era tank and air battle game

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Assuming you are gonna play the US, none of the early planes are very bad, just play around with them until you find the type of plane you prefer, most of the US fighters are boom and zoom planes, meaning you climb in the beginning, then dive down at the enemy, swooping back up away from them after your attack run is over. They also have a couple decent turn fighters, but not many.

Also after rank 4 a premium account is basically required. The repair costs for many higher tier planes are so expensive there's a 50/50 shot that you won't earn enough in a game to repair it.
So in other words, if I want to fly multiplayer F-16s, I should kill myself because that's not going to happen (without shelling out big moolah).
I will say, I'm impressed that the game has G-forces in it. As a social sciences small brain I don't know what G-forces actually are, but I know they're probably bad and I should fly my plane less flashy if I'm having them.

Honestly for what it is, the game is fairly detailed and accurate, that's why all these leaks happen, people want their favorite vehicles to be correct, and gaijin only accepts real documents.
The game is fun most of the time, and I do not regret playing it as much as I have, but unless your willing to spend ~$100 or so, there's little hope for you to reach top tier in the foreseeable future. If you buy a premium A-6 it would help the grind, and you could possibly do it in a few months, depending on how much you actually play.

Pretty much. Even for the tanks. You're best off finding a premium that you really like playing and just keep at it. Thankfully you can grind a lot of a tech tree with very few vehicles, no need to play ones you really don't like just to progress. For tanks I grinded all the way to the M1 tanks 90% with just the premium m4 jumbo and t29 lol.

*Edit* Shoot, you don't even need a premium. You can talisman any vehicle and that pretty much makes it a premium for getting RP if I remember right.

So, TL;DR G-forces are what happens when you're put under acceleration and are essentially a multiplier of your current weight (not mass, small but important detail). So in two G's everything in your body, including your heart muscles and red blood cells, weighs twice as much. Not good, but sustainable. Three G's, well everything weighs thrice as much. The more your body weighs, the more your heart and lungs need to work, since even the air you're breathing in weighs more than what it normally does. A side effect is that your blood, since its heavier, pools in your lower extremities like your legs and feet, depriving your brain that's at the top of your body from receiving vital oxygen. That lack of oxygen is why your vision blurs and fades and you eventually black out, and its why dive bombing is so dangerous because the worst part isn't the dive but the climbing out hard to avoid crashing thanks to all the G's on the pilot from that maneuver so blackouts are extremely common. Note that the worst G's are from circular acceleration like turns or climbs as centrifugal force starts doing things to your body, which is why you run into G's in the 6's and 7's all the time on those. For short durations its not good but tolerable, especially with training both physical and mental which is why you never see a fat fighter pilot because their hearts would explode they minute they tried any maneuvers.

Enter the G-suit to help address these issues, since its designed to compress around your legs as it starts to weight more to restrict the flow of blood to your legs. And it does, a lot.

Does it help your dive bombing if you wear a G string?

You're better off just buying the AV-8A since you can reliably bomb and get plane kills in the AV-8A compared to the A-6. Also, you basically have to get premium otherwise you get almost nothing in rewards at higher tiers. Sales should be in a few months so the AV-8A should be ~$30 or something.

I downloaded War Thunder mainly for the F-16s since Top Gun and Rising Storm gave me an appreciation for Cold War jet fighters. But seems it’s paywalled. What is the best game for dogfighting in jet fighters, and for WW1 biplanes?
For WWI combat flight sim, Rise of Flight is free and can be pretty fun with mods. The graphics still hold up well, and the only thing that feels simplistic in hindsight is the airframe damage models, though that's more because other flight sim games have advanced damage modeling to such a detailed level.

Bit late, but guess what? People leaked shit to get buffs on their favorite digital plane again!
Un-lucky winner this time: the PLAAF, with the leaked docs on the J-8 Finback!

Those might be considered declassified since it's been 30+ years since it was introduced.

From gov.cn, "Article 15 The period of confidentiality of state secrets shall be limited to the necessary period according to the nature and characteristics of the matter and the need to maintain national security and interests; if the time limit cannot be determined, the conditions for decryption shall be determined. The period of confidentiality of state secrets shall not exceed thirty years for top secret levels, twenty years for secret levels, and ten years for secret levels unless otherwise specified."

The picture he posted talked about azimuth angles for radar and other figures. People on the WT subreddit seem to immediately love to call any sort of documents classified even though they might actually be declassified/just restricted (F-15 and F-16 "docs" were this). The 1 legit leak I remember was the breech armor values on the Challenger 2.

Not surprised. It's just funny so much tech info appears on War Thunder because the autists playing it will literally go to illegal lengths to get buffs on their favorite vehicles.

In the future, things like resources, technology, and manpower won't win wars. What will win wars is the sheer amount of autism that goes into a single video game.

Has WT ever data leaked on any Russian planes before? Not that I am aware of since I barely follow any WT leak scandals.

In addition, if you don't mind paying for a base game and DLC, IL-2 Great Battles has 2 Flying Circus DLCs (the first one is plenty enough for most cases), which includes a map, multiple WW1 biplanes, decent damage and flight models (at least on par with the rest of the game) plus some campaigns. Plus it's the only one I know of that allows you to take potshots at other fighters with a pistol (I haven't played Rise of Flight so I don't know if you can do that there as well Rise of Flight did it first).
