I was listening soundtrack to the Hueco Mundo arc recently and thought 'man, I used to love Bleach, and the Arrancar arc was sick. I should re-watch it now that I have more spare time.'

But Bleach really is some absolute bullshit lmao. The experience of watching shitty rips on youtube in like 2009 or on TV and getting hype on forums and in the comments of windows moviemaker AMVs was a big part of the overall package and without that you just tend to notice all the 00s shounen stuff that feels really dated and predictable.

Aizen's betrayal is still absolutely brutal, though.

Yup.

You think it's cool and then you grow up, really think about it, and figure out none of it really makes any sense. From Aizen's plans, Soul Society, the Vizards, Urahara, and why Yoruichi is a fucking cat. When you realize Ichigo wins every major fight using the exact same story beats and asspulls, you just can't enjoy the story anymore. It's just bad. And unironic Bleach fanboys are some of the most retarded people. People pretending like Bleach is good now is the most embarrassing shit. The Thousand Year Blood War doesn't make any sense and literally comes out of fucking nowhere.

The fight scenes can be good. Grimmjow vs Ichigo or hollow Ichigo vs Byakuya are still great. It's all style over substance, though.

I think Bleach suffers from having too much going on. The best and most simple element imo is Aizen's treachery and his motivations, but then they spend so much time pissing about with the other meandering plot elements that the entire thing loses focus. Aizen crops up in TYBW and it almost gets interesting because you think maybe he'll team up with whatever the fucking bad guy's name is, or kill the bad guy and become the new big bad for a proper round 2 of the Ichigo-Aizen fight, or maybe there'll be a huge climactic fight where everyone teams up to stop him as a send off to the series and we see the captains at the top of their game fighting as equals with Ichigo in the soul society against the biggest existential threat- but then it just goes back to the usual motions: Ichigo gets beat up, farts out some new powerups, wins while everyone else stands around. There are like a billion characters but most of them never do anything worth mentioning and it's always just about Ichigo doing everything and winning all the time and being the best and most coolest guy in the soul society.

Bleach dudebros are just as retarded as the TYBW arc. They think it's perfect and shit their pants if you dare to point out all its glaring issues. Apparently the anime is embarrassingly rushed too. Looking back on the early days of Bleach is nostalgic, but it really did take a noticeable decline the more it went on. It's right up there with Attack on Titan as one of the biggest contenders for "What the actual fuck was that ending?"

The fandom meltdown over Ichigo ending up with Orihime was pretty funny, though

The reaction was funny, sure, but the shipping nonsense itself being shoehorned in was the cherry on top of the shit sundae.
The romance subplot always felt irrelevent to the main goal of bleach (cool fights, sick powerups). Doesn't help that Ichigo had all the personality and charm of a surly plank of wood, either. He was always kind of lame since he never seemed ot have much of a goal or motivation- say what you will about Naruto, but it was obvious why the main character got out of bed in the morning and what his aspirations were. Ichigo just kinda reacted to stuff when it happens to his friends but it always felt that things were happening to him rather than that he was making things happen through his own actions. As an MC he was pretty passive.

>try reading Tokyo Ghoul
>manga just starts getting retarded after Ken gets tortured and starts setting shit up with way too many characters for me to care
>part 2 goes on way too long with the brainwashed amnesiac shit

It feels like a Frankenstein of edgy shit that people liked without it’s own identity. The art work is fine at times, but everything basically boils down to tentacles and you can barely tell what‘s happening.

Choujin X from the same mangaka seems kino for now.

My favorite shonentards are the remaining Bleach fans desperately trying to pretend the manga is very deep and intellectual and you need five seasons of Rick and Morty to comprehend all the meaningful themes hidden deep within Kubo's depictions of esoteric Buddhism and ink spills.

I'm watching Record of Ragnarok for the first time and I'm enjoying it, but the Zeus/Adam fight has me kind of peeved.
Do the humans just keep losing? No spoilers plz

I also watched Bleach for the first time up to the end of the Hueco Mundo arc and I really like it. Yes, it's bullshit that Ichigo constantly pulls bullshit out of his ass to win.
-Aizen/Ichigo fight was way too short
-Didn't like Gin's betrayal of Aizen
-Fight with Stark was too short
-Filler
-Orihime ending up with Ichigo (which I haven't watched past Aizen's defeat but know about it)
-Ulquiorra dying instead of becoming an ally
-Yammy

But overall I really liked it. The fights toward the end of Hueco Mundo with the top Espada (Stark, Barrigan, Wonderweiss; Yammy doesn't count) are some of the best shonen anime I've seen. Particularly loved Barrigan's.

I liked the first part of the manga just fine, then :re came along. Bloated with boring characters (honestly who gave a fuck about the Quinx), amnesia shit dragged on for way too long like you said, and the ending was rushed and lame as hell. I know Ishida even admitted he just got burnt out at the end and apologized for it but he would've been better off not making :re at all.

But will the Starlights be men or women? And will that cause a social media shit storm from...you know? And might it cause them to treat Takeuchi the way most folks treat Rowling?
They're going to be women dressed as men, who will often be mistaken for men, and it won't be addressed in film just like the way butch dykes were treated in the 80s and 90s.

The new trailer for sailor moon cosmos is out, and it looks amazing. Personally, I'm angry. Toei can overproduce all these terrible show, yet they can't pay homage to one of the most recognizable brands in history by producing multiple episodes. Sailor stars was also the most watched season in SM history probably because Takaeuchi had much more creative control in the final season. I have a strong feeling they will butcher the ending in order to encourage fans not to ask for new, original manga.
This trailer actually looks pretty good. I haven't watched any of the new series past the first few episodes of crystal, but I might check it out. I liked sailor stars, but all the changes from the manga pissed me off.

The sailor moon fandom used to be really chill in the early 00s. Then Tumblr happened, and it became infested with every e-whore and tranny around. At least the trannies I can understand, but I never really got why e-thots love the franchise so much. Do they even watch it? Sure, the characters wear skimpy outfits, but they aren't sluts and don't promote sluttery at all.

Yes, what really makes me angry is how people rave about Sailor Moon S. It's usually the alphabet people but mainstream reviewers have followed. I feel like mainstream acknowledgment has really twisted the lore of Sailor Moon. It went from a cool story about strange aliens who may have colonized our solar system through several reincarnations to somehow lesbians and gender faggots that fight for LGBTQ2+YMCA rights.

Tokyo Ghoul was what made me realize how much I hate pretentious edgelord 2serious4U shit. Then again, I was watching the anime on Toonami, which went in its own direction that pissed off basically everybody, especially the all-original second season that killed off that redhead guy (which I honestly didn't care about, I hated him enough to want him dead anyway) in the last episode. So yeah, probably not the best way to experience it at all, but hearing people's thought on the latter parts of the manga, I'm not sure if it's too much better.

The queers have this lovely habit of putting their dirty hands all over something and then claiming it was always theirs now that their stink is on it.

I'd say Choujin X strikes a good balance between being edgy/experimental and the sort of goofiness the author had when he wrote Penisman.
(Though personally I thought Tokyo Ghoul was sort of the same, it was serious because it was fun to be serious but then it stopped being fun.)

It seemed interesting with a parallel society of cannibals, but it never establishes the stuff that would be actually interesting. Like Ghouls are effectively in two stratas: broke ass crackhead niggas who can’t even read and an aristocracy that is involved in a conspiracy for gay ass reasons.

It feels like a rough draft because Ken for the most part never actually does anything. He exists to get stringed along. The whole mommy issues where he was raised to be a doormat is fine, but it comes in way too late.
Like he has no goal beyond the most generic anime goal of protect anyone.

It’s not even that edgy, sure it has cannibals and people are taxidermy’d into weapons. Even the human trafficking is never really delved into.
It’d be edgier if they had nitty gritty details like the nicer ghouls tracking suicidal people to an insane extent, working in morgues to steal body parts, and what not. The inciting incident with Ken was him getting appraised and honeypotted, that was actually a little bit edgy.
