You absolutely DO get paid to foster bio-related children. The name varies from state to state, but generally it's called "kinship care" or ""family care placement". The amount of money is the same as traditional foster care. Additionally, when you foster youngins', you get additional SNAP, WIC if they're five or under, and social services often throws in gift cards or extra checks to cover initial needs (clothing, hygiene, toys) and growing/growth spurt needs.

That said, I don't think a cat hoard would be that much of a turn off for a home study. Mainly they are looking for the child having their own space and making sure you have running water and electric and the place is safe for human habitat. An incontinent cat that barely moves isn't going to turn away these hardened battle axes of social workers who really want to have someone who won't beat the child or use them in a red room or something worse.

In my state there are three variants of placement.

1) You have direct placement in which all parties agree. There are no benefits given. You are also at the complete mercy of the parent.

2) You can petition the courts for emergency placement. You can get support, but you have to agree to go after the parent for child support. Great way to make enemies. Completely necessary.

3) You can foster. This involves a lot more work and you only have a short period in which you can apply after placement. This has money attached to it, and there are sometimes delay in the child receiving the money, but they absolutely will backpay all the way to placement. Your income isn't counted as part of the child's income, so like @bitchfit said, the child remains WIC, SNAP, and HEAP eligible with other allowances and the guardian is responsible for this money.

If I had to guess, the SW explained the first two. Polissa blew up and that was that. Or maybe they told her about the delay and that made her mad. Or maybe the SW passed her, but cares enough about her clients and her profession to strongly discourage Polissa by discussing the possibility of rejection or pushing the second option of going after her cousin.

I have a feeling that Polissa confused the two terms adopt and foster. According to her hashtag #adopt, no, they probably would not pay you for that but they would pay you to foster. Additionally, they would not allow you to adopt if your income is too low to support 2 children or if your house was too small for the number of inhabitants.

There's no date on those screenshots where she discusses this. Do we know when that was? Their current house is 798 square feet, according to Zillow, which means that it would have roughly 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. For her to say "their rooms were already set up and everything" - her house isn't big enough for 2 kids to have their own rooms. From my quick googling, it sounds too small for just Pissa, Joh and the animal horde, much less add in 2 children.

800 sq ft is "About the size of 5 parking spaces". CPS might have been okay with a foster placement but certainly not an adoption with a house and income that small.

It's an appointment only food bank! No waiting! They also will double up to $20 of food stamps spent at farmer's markets. They also have volunteer opportunities. Is Polissa too disabled to put food into backpacks for needy children? Almost certainly.
