Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

If they get gratification seeing Jim spend their money because they want to do it themselves I'm interpreting that as consooming by proxy, which just sounds wild to me :story:
I didn't think of it that way, but it's entirely possible. It seems like a large portion of these "capitalism is evil" type people just want to live like children for the rest of their lives. Maybe they took the toys r us song too seriously as kids? I have toys, hobbies, some collectibles, etc. but I don't just constantly bitch moan and complain about capitalism, capitalism is what allows me to indulge in dumb shit when I want to instead of working 12 hours a day on a dirt farm in eastern europe or something.

I had two thoughts, one of which is a question which is likely easily answered by a search, but I’ll ask anyway. How heavily is Patreon taxed? Though his subscriber count is dipping heavily, he’s always been around that ~$10,000 mark on Patreon, at least as long as I can remember.

Secondly, YWNBAW. Since Jim is obviously a fake tranny and doesn’t care whether people view him as a woman, should YWNBAW in reference to Jim come to mean You Will Never Be a Wrestler? Perhaps You Will Never Be a Woman Wrestler?

So ungodly wealthy and yet manages to spend all his money on plastic and arcade machines to the point of having to live in a squalid crackden with a greenscreen in the basement eating goyslop for Christmas dinner.

(now that I think about it how the fuck does he show all his expensive tat on video and his paypigs go "yeah, this is a good investment")
Someone asked that when he was showing off the Godzilla pinball machine, he claimed he bought it with money made from wrestling but I highly doubt that. Even if you lowball the cost and say £5000 that’s still a lot of money earned

They absolutely do, about 3-4 years ago the trendy thing was 'Fully automated luxury communism' where everyone gets unlimited free time and resources and can live a hedonistic lifestyle consequences free, basically what happens in the sci-fi novel The Culture.

As @Oliver Onions said, it's a Breadtube thing. They consider landlords to be the scummiest creatures on the Earth, because how dare they attempt to make a profit on properties they purchased, maintained, and paid taxes on.
Yet the stupid knobjockey could buy a house outright if he controlled his spending for a year or so but no, he rents because he refuses to stop wasting his money.

Been keeping an eye on his subscriber count with glee, unfortunately social blade no longer does a proper live ticker so that 800k is down to predictions... at this rate it'll be before the end of February and I for one can't wait.

Jim really has outstayed his welcome and I can only hope he learns a lesson and switches things up, but I'm sure we'll hear how this is the transphobes fault instead.
I guess you could just check his page regularly and see when it ticks down from 801k to 800k, but that probably won't happen for a while.

Unfortunately at this point I don't think he's going to say something so outrageous that he loses a shit ton of subscribers. Most of them at this point are old accounts that have been abandoned or are people who never pay attention to their subscriptions.

Yeah fair point, I suppose I'm bitter and twisted as I genuinely enjoyed his stuff in the early days, slowly began to give up and then fell off the wagon completely after listening to the JQ podcast for a year or so and got tired of that troglodyte Laura's voice.

It’s OK to have had and continue to enjoy his old stuff. I will always remember the retarded slapfight between DigiHom and fat boy fondly. I would go as far as to say that if his content was actually worthwhile, I’d enjoy it today - regardless of how gross he looks.

Agreed. I could probably still go back and enjoy the Post-Mortem videos he did for games like Anthem and Evolve if it ever took my fancy, and some of the old Podtoid clips still crack me up (Gordon Ramsay: Kitchen Gladiator will never stop being hilarious to me).

It's the politics, I hate politics and gaming/content from people like Jim were a good escape, sure you got the occasional statement from him in the early days but that's long gone... audio only with none of the political shite and I'd be ok.

We all have creators whose politics or personal life we find a bit odious, but we can find stuff they made or make we still enjoy. Well, except for people like Jim, but that's the problem with that type, innit?

Kim Justice for example, many similarities except Kim makes videos that are interesting and well-researched, as opposed to bad takes on last week's news, interspersed with political opinions and pictures from 80's cartoon shows

He's done some good stuff, even if he just parrotted what others people before him had already researched and laid out before him. Like the pasta sauces video. I also don't mind some of his earlier work where he does opine on a debate, like the rape versus murder one. Not because I agree with him or disagree, but because it felt it was more of a genuine take and less NPC screeching.

If you watch the oldest Jimquistion content he mostly did editorials and opinion pieces on the industry, comments on that week's news were quick snippets. This was during the time he had other avenues to actually discuss the news, like written articles. Sure, often something would happen in the industry to spark a discussion, but it was used as a relevancy springboard to a larger topic.

I think the biggest issue became when Jim make Jimquistion increasingly news centric. Weekly 10-30 minute videos aren't good enough for covering the industry news. YongYea might say a lot of nothing, but his rapid upload schedule of "whenever there's news" even if it is a mild expansion on a developing story means he can keep on top of a changing and developing story, and shift his stance better to fit the popular opinion if needed, or if things change. He can also stay current.

A weekly format can do this, but you need to have a dedicated wrap up for it. Jim could actually do a Saturday news wrap up, just shot gunning his opinions on everything that week, then use Monday for big stories that are wrapped up and the story is known as a deep dive, or to do editorials. This would let him talk about dumb shit he cares about. Heck, toss in a Wednesday video that is wrestling related.

Then again shouldn't his podcast provide an outlet for a lot of this? Let him talk news and politics and all that?

Some dude on Youtube made compilations titled "The Best of Jim Sterling Playing the Worst Games" a decade ago. They're still funny today and you can tell why; Jim had actual fun in them.

I liked Boglinwatch as well despite the consoomerism, but I can see why people hate it.

I still legit think the funniest thing he ever did was 'The Top Ten Video Game Characters That I Would Wank Off In A Toilet'.

Maybe it's just my retarded brain, but to this day, every time I encounter someone called Frank, in my head I can't help but hear Jim chiming in with "Your name rhymes with 'wank'. Get over it."

It does, but he tends to stay quiet during the news segments. He contributes very little besides saying that the thing that is happening is bad.
