Gonna sperg a bit because this is the sperg thread, but lemme tell you something about US military POGs.
Only about 10% of the US military engages in actual combat. You might be saying, "lol wtf?" but this is actually true. Now the US military's (I do mean all branches) justification for this is that they're needed for logistical reasons to support combat arms forces. Well here's the problem with that little combat philosophy and one of the reasons the US regularly gets absolutely BTFO by third world countries.
All those "support troops" actually need support themselves. They need DFACs to eat in, they need small arms repair people for rifles they'll never fire in combat and seldom in training, they need fuel when they go "to the field" and grill hot dogs "for training," they need medics (actual combat arms) when they got to sharky's and pick up a STD or get seriously injured the one time they have to actually do a ruck march. So you constantly need more POGs to support the POGs you already have, and this is how you get to that seemingly unfathomable number of 10% combat arms. BTW in an infantry unit, more often than not you are your own support. A small arms repair faggot will not fix your rifle unless it's pretty much falling apart; your company armorer will be the one fixing it when he has a chance to do so. He's also an 11b just like you and probably is only doing the job because he got injured and instead of getting medical treatment which could have prevented him from becoming a broke dick, Col. Sanders in charge of the 198196188696514 fried chicken support battalion got priority for medical treatment for his erectile dysfunction. Same story for all the other shit a combat arms unit is supposed to be "supported" with.
Like it or not, the US military has a worse track record in war than France does and that's even if you include in the abysmal post democracy track record into the French numbers. Now let's look at the most effective military in all of history and see how they were structured militarily, which of course would be Rome. Only going into late Rome (cohort) because while their combat arms were vastly different in the two earlier eras, their support structure was basically they same. A
standard Roman legion had a total strength of 6,000 men. Of this legion, 1,200 where slaves doing support tasks. The Roman legion did everything that was needed for a combat unit. The only support units were typically less experienced legions that got tasked with mostly logistical affairs until they were ready to be moved to the front. Squads were given provisions and they cooked their own meals. The guy fixing equipment was normally just some legionnaire who knew what he was doing. Any bitch work was handled by the servi. Anything outside of the norm was handled by either more slaves, or by people hired on a temporary basis for specific tasks.
It was a direct reversal of the US military. The servi (POGs) supported the legionnaires 1st and themselves 2nd.
