Let's Sperg Dwarf Fortress: Succession Game in Progress.

I have the kind of autism that makes me dox myself by posting my sister's tumblr, not the kind of autism that makes me write 2500 words about fuggin dwarf world and this computer simulation from 1980 that looks like it's made for developmentally disabled ten-year-olds.

I think developmentally disabled 10 year olds would give up on DF within minutes- It's rather more complicated than a kid could handle even without being exceptional.
 
I just found the "Lets Sperg" board and my mind first lept to a DF Bloodlines game, so I'm super glad to see someone beat me to it. Without reading 7 pages worth of backlog, is there a game running, if so please throw me into the queue, and if not why haven't we started a game in seven pages? I know Autism runs rampant around here but good lord people.

There was a game running, but there hasn't been progress in months. I was the last one to have the active save, and I'm pretty sure I lost the file at some point in time.

In any case, the save was several versions out of date. If we wanted to continue, it would probably be best to start a new game with the latest update.
 
Has anybody tried Rimworld? Friends were trying to sell me on it based on it being very Dwarf Fortress except without the interface that actively hates you. That's half the charm IMO but sometimes you want to scratch the DF itch when you haven't played for a while without having to relearn a game that feels like two people each took 50% of the design work and never spoke to each other.

Anyway if there's a new game I'm in.

I still have the last save. Someone could update it to the latest version, which would preserve all our progress. However, it was suffering from FPS drop, so I might have to have a "kitty/garbage genocide" in order to clean things up.
 
Seems to be a bit of a theme with multiplayer games with KF members... people get distracted and things derail or disappear >.>
 
Let's vote on it then. Start fresh or resume from the last save?

Or split the difference, and generate a new fort from the same world, possibly a reclaim of the old fort?

All of the major new features are hard-coded into the game; editing the raw files won't let us access them with our old save. If we want to have access to libraries and taverns and all the other new goodies, we'll need to start anew with the new version.

Crap, I kind of want to see the inevitable collapse of this fortress, because it feels right. However, I'm willing to start another playthrough anew.
Who should go first? And should we do vanilla or add in a few mods, like the firearms?

Firearms, whilst cool, seem like a fairly redundant addition as there are already three different types of ranged weapons in the game. I've always been a vanilla player, but I'd wouldn't mind if the new game had a few things modded in so long as it wasn't some sort of major overhaul like Masterwork.
 
I think vanilla is good, but an interesting idea is we should at some point start with some save game at a critical juncture and then have utter retards attempt to play it, like me.

I've been interested in this whole DF idea but afraid that I'd completely embarrass myself by utterly destroying some scenario that started in an at least semi-good situation until I took it over and destroyed it by being a moron.

I'd like to be able to take over a scenario and destroy it by being a moron without ruining the fun for everyone else.
 
I'm not a power DF player. I love the game, but I'm pretty good at doing things like, forgetting they added hospitals, and never setting one up (which is great fun for bloodline games). Since I juggle with vanilla's features alone, I vote no mods. I'll play whatever tho.
 
I swear, if I played DF I would probably accidentally destroy the universe.
 
So, who wants to start? I think we should make a new thread for the new play through, and maybe give this one a proper send off (an account from a historian about the mysterious collapse of the Bloody Apes of Grapes, possibly caused by the Mad Lord Fragg or the peasant uprising by Hat)

I would be willing to start the next game, though I'll be a bit busy until late afternoon tomorrow. If someone wants to start up earlier, be my guest.
 
I wouldn't mind joining in, but no promises about whether my turn will be an absolute clusterfuck or not. Might need some info on how to run the game >.>
