Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

Microsoft on release of Windows 13: "We have decided that for security reasons we will force users to submit to an anal probe for verification. Our new biometric sign-on will only accept rectal prints from our users"
Windows userbase: "I don't want this. But I guess there's no other choice out there"
Linux/BSD userbase: "Not my problem faggots"

Again, no one is denying that. It's only the weird Linux zealots who are trying to pretend that criticisms of their pet OS are all unfounded.

The whole "well, Windows has problems too" tactic is irrelevant because 99.9% of Windows users detest much of Windows and merely tolerate it because it runs the applications they use. I keep saying this and it falls on deaf ears over and over.
Ok first of all I don't think anyone in this thread has said that Linux is without problems. I certainly haven't made this claim. What I and others have pointed out is that first the vast majority of users of any operating system don't leave their browser. Case in point, Chromebooks outsell Macbooks [0].

>99.9% of Windows users detest much of Windows and merely tolerate it because it runs the applications they use.
Keep using Windows then. I never want to hear about how much you hate Windows if you don't consider alternatives. If you wanted to try ReactOS you're able to do so for free as well. At which point you will encounter a truly unstable operating system. An operating system where the misinformation about Linux instability is actually accurate. Enjoy!

even though I will be forced to make the switch to windows 11 and be forced to do a PC upgrade.
the only thing I am looking forward is that my company will finally be forced to make the switch and get rid of their dog shit ass computers
What's wrong with your work's computers? What kind of hardware do they have?

just wait 5 years and keep using your current version of Windows, then when you upgrade just run a script to disable anal probe verification and activate your OS

misinformation
Ooh its the globalist word

Yea I get the impression Windows doesn't like that users have the freedom to use different programs that are not on the Windows store.

I foretell Windows 13 will be Applelike, with features like:
- Windows Store, and only able to install apps that are pre-approved by Windows
- Windows default apps for everything, Libra and Paint.net outright banned from Windows
- Even more horrendous interface

Also who the fuck still BUYS Windows 10? I've been copy-pasting System32/Licenses on my pirated copies and it works just fine lmao

Microsoft could easily make it much more difficult to disable the telemetry. Apple doesn't let you block theirs, for example. If you jump through hoops to block Apple telemetry you will find many of your programs won't function properly.

Absolutely and they actually have something like this out there right now but there was so much backlash to the initial Windows 10 S I think you have to enable it on install now.

I played around with this on a fresh laptop that came with it pre-installed and it is terrible. Far more locked down than what Apple does, you aren't allowed to install anything that isn't in the Windows store and you must have a Microsoft account to do so. Furthermore, you needed a Microsoft account just to change most of the configuration options like the update schedule, custom backgrounds and more.

They're discounted because Windows users will happily say "Yeah, I agree. I hope Microsoft goes bankrupt and Bill Gates gets ass cancer." while Linux users will say "If your hardware or software doesn't work on Linux, you didn't need it anyway. Just write your own driver, bro."

And when you go ask for help writing your own driver, you are told that you are a faggot idiot and "I don't want you using my OS."

I just don't need Linux. Windows serves my needs. QQ some more, LInux faggots.

I unironically think this would be the ideal situation for Linux. If Microsoft is stupid enough to break backward compatibility and radically reshape how you can use the OS, suddenly the tether will be broken for million and millions of current personal Windows users, corporate Windows users, and the software companies that cater to them.

I don't think they'll do it because it would be corporate suicide, but then again they're at the forefront of globohomoism and 🤡🌏 proves me wrong time and time again.

Microsoft is definitely heading in this direction, though we'll see if the government slaps Apple hard enough over its own App Store to make Microsoft reconsider following Apple's example. In the event where Apple doesn't get raked over the coals then Microsoft will probably go full steam ahead and just eat the minuscule fines while laughing all the way to the bank.

I find it extraordinarily doubtful. Corporate users and legacy software support are Microsoft's bread and butter and the bullshit pulled early on with Windows 10 (and Windows 8, actually) was enough to make major players say "fix this or you'll never see another dime from us".

Apple can do what they want because everyone already knows what they're getting into buying into the Apple ecosystem. There aren't any Fortune 500 companies I know of with tailor-made software that only runs on MacOS.

They already tried to, or at least, they took the first steps towards that goal. Windows 10X lacked all of the "legacy" Windows components, only let you run Windows Store apps, mandated a Microsoft account and, AFAIK, completely prevented you from accessing things like the Windows folder, %AppData%, %USERPROFILE%, and the Registry.

This just reads like an enormous cope to me. You can just say "I don't know how to do basic tasks in Linux" without using half the space you just did. Honestly I am thrilled that Linux filters non-technical users, its a bug not a feature. I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely don't want you to use the operating system.

>But muh wine
Lurk more. You're in a tech forum.

Same response as above. If you can't read far enough to where I said "Hardware not software" you're just unable to use the machine period and everything has to be spoon fed to you regardless of compatibility. Nobody told you to enjoy your choices. People said your choices are Linux or upgrade Windows.

Go back to your Windows ghetto. Honestly the entitlement from morons like yourselves is astonishing and the single reason why nobody and I mean nobody is interested in helping you fix your problems.

>100% free to use operating system
>Mostly free to modify (some VERY small exceptions with DRM)
>Has financial and technical support from the likes of IBM, Intel, and Google
>Compatible with virtually every x86 (HARDWARE) based system on Earth
>Has multiple free options for virtualization such as VitualBox and QEMU
>Has free options for emulation like WINE
>Has multiple free replacements for existing software - i.e. Krita instead of GIMP

All you've been told to do in exchange for this is Read The Fucking Manual. But that's too much for you to do clearly from your post. So I will reference my first post in this thread

Congrats, cucks. I called it. I said this in literally my first post in this thread. You're never going to do anything about your problems except complain more. For anyone left thinking "This is all Linux needs to be adopted on the desktop", "2023 is the year of Linux on the desktop", just try dealing with these people for more than 30 minutes.

That's a fair justification for using Windows. I understand there's lots of, for example, lab computers and industrial computers that run software with only one vendor supplying the software and you need to buy them in a bundle as a turnkey solution. But people in this thread a belly aching about Adobe Photoshop or some similar application. But like I said, I've given up on people using Linux for desktop and honestly I don't want your average Linux Tech Tips user entering the platform and trying to "improve" the platform for normies while making serious work more tedious
Dude.... calm down, take your Xanax and troonshine, and use your own advice and read other posts in this thread. I honestly don't give a single flying fuck what system you or anyone else personally uses. Grab an AmigaOne and sperg over AmigaOs4 for all I care, but it's nice how you completely ignored/dodged the main point that myself and many other people are making on here. WINE, FOSS, DOSBOX, GIMP, ETC AREN'T THE BE ALL, END ALL SOLUTION TO COMPATIBILITY ISSUES!!! Continue drinking your Allsport while trying to convince everyone that its Just The Same™️ as Gatorade. For whatever reason, be it work requirements, outright incompatibility with other software or hardware, or their own specific preferences, some people just CANNOT. USE. ALTERNATIVE. OPTIONS.

Even though it might hurt your feelings to admit, the smug sense of superiority that you get from your sperging over Linux doesn't really matter. Some people like to tweak and tune their setups to suit their needs, and some people likentheirs to work well right out of the box. As an automotive hobbyist, I get that. But I don't deride the soccer moms who go to the quick lube places in their Generic Silver SUV™️ because they are going from point A to B while I'm building a high compression small journal 468 stroker for a Pontiac.

And who gives a fuck about what runs on x86 architecture? Its the basis for a large majority of PC based processors, I would hope that most Linux distros would run on it. And Windows can run on many ARM based processors as well as X86, natively since Windows 10 and 11. So I don't see what you're getting at there either?

A fun excerpt but Windows has a slew of problems too, good luck getting a Microsoft developer to publicly shit all over any of them. Also worth noting that was 9 years ago and he's almost exclusively referring to Debian and how they do things. I won't pretend a lot of it isn't still relevant today, however things are generally better and most people would be unaware of these issues if they're just a general user.

None of what he's said about deploying binaries on Linux has changed. It's why we only support our software on two distros, RHEL and SLES, and if you use something else, well, too bad.

It doesn't have single digit adoption.

We're talking about desktop operating systems, where Linux has just below a 3% market share.

There's a cadre of people inside Microsoft who want to turn Microsoft into a less competent, gayer version of Apple. Problem is, Microsoft is first and foremost an enterprise software company. As @Matt Damon, their enterprise customers call the shots. In the past, they've done things like force Microsoft to extend XP's life.

S Edition is not for enterprise, it's for personal devices. Enterprise always gets its own version of Windows that caters to companies.
