I figure maybe 1% of the people in tech with the title "Engineer" actually do real engineering, or have the skills for it. Real Software Engineering would be used for something like nuclear power or space travel. Site reliability engineering isn't actually a thing.

Even wokeipedia:

When one of Honeycomb's CEO's worked at Linden Labs they had a tradition where an engineer had to don the shrek ears if they caused a major outage.
