Microsoft is fucking butthurt no one wants Windows 11 so they're stopping the sale of Windows 10 licenses this month

I like that you're too autistic to know that's an insult. It's endearing.
To be fair, you have to have a high IQ to know What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

Its like you can't read sarcasm. I'm very convinced you have an 8th grade reading comprehension. Obviously that was an insult. We've been calling each other dumb for the past two days. The next question is how fucking retarded do YOU have to be not to read my post and see it as the obvious sarcasm that it was. Again with the Windows users that are too spergy to have a conversation.

Constant strawmanning from your side is very funny to watch though. Please continue to insist I said things I didn't say.
This is coming from the guy who said it's obvious I've never read the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire showing a clear lack of a grasp on what hyperbole is.

You've obviously never read the Fall of the Roman Empire then. Of course I've said positive things in defense of Linux.
Never knew you can equate installing linux to the Fall of the Roman empire

The distilled autism of this thread has encouraged me to get a $30 Chromebook and put either Manjaro or Mint on it and just use it for browsing in bed since I hate being on mobile/tablet.

I'll let you guys know how that goes when I actually get one.

You weren't explicitly asking for help but for anyone who stumbles across this thread in the future: Chromebooks can have hit or miss support from certain distros. Sometimes this is because of the instruction set (Samsung used/uses ARM) or coreboot so you might want to take a gander at the compatibility chart.

What I see the most doing cursory searches is Ubuntu, Mint, Manjaro, and now some people trying to put KDE Plasma.

Or just buy a Microsoft Surface, they work perfectly right out of the box. :smug:

Don't fall for the meme, son. What you want to do is get an old Chrmebook and put Windows 11 on it. It's the most secure version of Windows to date. Unlike Linux, it's made by a corporate entity that stands behind its product.

I can't say from first hand experience since I haven't personally tried installing Linux on a Chromebook but I would think that Ubuntu's desktop environment (Unity) is probably too demanding for the typical Chromebook. Mint or Manjaro is a better bet.

True, for $30 dollars you might be better off getting some old PC hardware off of craigslist or ebay. With Windows 11 on the horizon there will probably be some good deals on used computers soon. Usually after a new version of Windows you see a wave of cheap hardware on the market.

My specific usecase though, I don't want a PC. I want the small form factor of the Chromebook so I can just toss it on my nightstand, and still have keyboard functionality and run faster than a tablet.

Shit, I was even considering a Nextbook Flex 11, but one in a non piece of shit state is like $100 and I don't want to spend that much on something I'm essentially just going to use to shitpost on KF or maybe watch hockey streams on in bed.

He's notorious for that. I don't know what's up with these Windows fags trying to push their full blown windows machines on people when old hardware with a lightweight Linux distro will suffice.

Gosh, I love Microsoft products. I never leave home without my Windows phone, my Surface tablet, and my Zune blasting all my favorite mid-2000s tunes.
