Literally almost all the articles on Ukrainian politicians (that are not Zelensky disapproved) are full of nothing but praise to Ukrainian politicians, its policies, and everything about it. That's why people are shocked when NYTimes makes an article saying Ukr messed up on something, because they don't tend to write articles like this.
This thread is probably not reflective of the site as a whole, fwiw. Many former posters now post less often because it's so bitter in here. Leaving many of the more partisan and obsessive members to make the majority of posts. And that said, it's hard to get real information right now. You have to tease it out from a mix of propaganda and tight OpSec. It looks like the Russians have the upper hand - they're certainly the only ones making notable advances and the actions of the Ukranian govt. indicate they're getting desperate. But without casualty figures or a clear idea of how many troops are mobilised and when, it's hard to know the price Russia is paying for these advances. They'll almost certainly take Bakhmut in the very near future. But did it cost them a thousand lives or twenty-thousand? Nobody really knows.

How to surrender to a group or an entire unit:
Stack all weapons in front of you at a distant distance.
Stand directly in front of the military equipment. Silence it; it should not be in a fighting position.
Choose a negotiator to notify the Ukrainian military of your desire to surrender. This should be an officer or the most senior in rank. With a white flag and no weapons.
What guarantees are given to prisoners of war:
The right to life and respect for the prohibition of torture under international law.
Amnesty for those who voluntarily surrendered military equipment and laid down their weapons.
Telephone call to family and friends.
What happens to the military after captivity:
They are released by exchange for Ukrainian prisoners of war or after the war is over. They return to their country.
They are given back all seized property (money, valuable items).
Important: All those who voluntarily surrendered will be documented as captured in combat. This should protect servicemen from possible criminal prosecution after returning to their country.
Soldiers who surrendered to the AFU will also have the opportunity to join the international legion and fight with many of their compatriots for a free Russia. On anonymous terms.
