Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Jorge Gutierrez (director of The Book of Life and creator of Maya and The Three) created it, so that's most likely why. Still better than the alternative though

El Tigre was great. I feel bad it wasn't given any time to develop before Nick pulled the plug and took the IP. It is the best kind of diversity as they actually used the culture to make interesting shit rather than cal-arts white coomer writing latinx lesbians.

If Nick All-Stars is getting a second game, I hope El Tigre shows up, I miss him being in something like Attack of The Toybots.

How many shows even have trannies prior to 2010? I'm guessing almost none.
pretty sure the answer is 0 outside of drag queen jokes until like 2016/17 almost. It's easy to forget how recent a thing this is, but it was seriously almost nowhere before the last five years. Whenever it was alphabet, it was gay.

copy and paste form the community post from a channel that uploads random clips of shows like spongebob.

This show could get so damn dark in its heyday but that's why we loved it so.

Place your bets on what favorite cartoon of yours will next be rebooted and utterly shat on with bad animation, terrible writing and self-inserted politics.

I sure do love the modern age.
If they even dare think about touching Ed Edd n Eddy with their Greasy, Soylent fingers... i'm gonna break into their house, and Crucify them...

I don’t have to think, as I already know. My two favorites of animation have both been announced to get continuations.

Adventure Time is supposed to be getting a Fionna and Cake spin-off, continuation series, but thankfully, I believe it has been canceled. Fionna and Cake were shit even in AT’s prime, so thank god there is no forced genderbent series. Let AT die with Distant Lands, it was a nice send off.

Now King of The Hill, this, this I am absolutely terrified over. I know Judge is back, but just no. Let KOTH have its graceful death. As for the reboot, I hold that Dale Gribble’s character will be the litmus test of how shit this is, as there ain’t no way in fucking hell they can allow him to be as based as he was. Add in Khan’s voice actor changing to an Asian now for muh representation, and really the general idea of Hank in ‘modern times’ and I just see this as a recipe for disaster. Bobby being LGBT in some way would be the ultimate nail in the coffin.

Cancelled TV Shows that I Would Have Wished to See Continued (But Will Never Happen)

Speaking of cancelled TV shows like El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera and Making Fiends, in which the networks absolutely backstabbed and set them out for failure, here are some TV shows that I have loved or showed interest but TV networks either set them up for failure or pulled the plug because it wasn't earning gaining enough audience members. Press F for series that would have advanced Western animation by a decade but get completely fucked over.

Disney

TRON: Uprising (2012-2013)

Awesome aesthetic and character design, an adapted soundtrack from Daft Punk's TRON: Legacy OST, and a more mature plot with characters getting derezzed (killed), I binge-watched this series over WCO, and was disappointed when I haven't really seen this in Disney XD, and now I know why. The series was made in 2012-2013, and TRON: Legacy was made by Disney to compete with Lucasfilm's Star Wars. However, when Disney bought Lucasfilm which later resulted in ownership of Star Wars, Disney pretty much shat the bed and attempted to can TRON and related properties, and TRON: Uprising was one of them. Disney set them up for failure by having the pilot be aired on the Disney Channel and then airing it on Disney XD in a time where most kids and teenagers would be asleep, and is why the series would never receive a large audience because of it. The series lasted for one season and ended with a cliffhanger.

Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja (2012-2015)

This is probably one of the series that you'll probably love as a kid but then as an adult, you're like, it's good fun, but no masterpiece. That did not stop the film from having a cult following and people shipping Randy and Theresa due to them being canon. It's also the type of series that Turning Red fans say that Turning Red is like Randy Cunningham if it was directed towards girls. Anyway, fun fact, most of the character designs are supplied by the creator of Invader Zim, Jhonen Vasquez! Series only received two seasons in an inconsistent schedule on Disney XD that ended on a cliffhanger.
(5:01 That Dead Poets Society reference lol)

Motorcity (2012-2013)

Motorcity is the type of series that the Anti-Car Community Watch Thread users would cream their pants watching, as the main antagonist of the series is an New Urbanism billionaire (voiced by Mark Hamill) who owns Detroit and hates cars and wants everyone to live in a bughive. I'll be honest, after getting my favorite series like TRON: Uprising canned without a proper conclusion, I decided not to watch a series with an unfinished conclusion, and Motorcity is one of those (I read some Kiwi Farms users also did not like it as much and thought it was okay). Despite this, I enjoy some of the scenes, and the art style and character design is superb (similar style to TRON: Uprising). I will watch this series if it even gets a finale, which it won't. Also suffered like Tron: Uprising because Disney bought STAH WARZZZZZZZ. Only one season that I presumed to have ended on a cliffhanger?

This is one of the reasons why Disney fucking sucks absolute dick and I will be happy when that company goes bankrupt.

Will be doing a reply on Cartoon Network.

I don't know...the whole point of Bobby's character is that he's weird and doesn't fit into the mold Hank wants him to. He's chubby and limp wristed and lazy, but he's also still a likable kid that wants his dad to love him, and Hank takes interest in Bobby's weird tomfoolery on occasion.

I don't think making Bobby gay would really ruin that dynamic, as at the end of the day the point of their relationship as characters is that Bobby doesn't measure up to Hank's expectations, but he's his own man and can still make Hank proud, and Hank still loves him because he's his son.

Picturing Bobby's voice and mannerisms in a sudden gay context sounds like a nightmare yes, but it isn't far from the core of him as a character.

The closest that ever almost happened--at least that I'm aware of--is in Jem and the Holograms where there was a minor recurring antagonist namd Techrat. According to commentaries on the old Rhino DVDs Techrat was meant to be androgynous, but the execs veto'd that and made him clearly a guy.

There's also been a couple of body-switching plots or "boy turns into a girl for awhile" type stories, and depending on the show sometimes they would acknowledge the more "adult" aspects of that but usually they would make it a joke and move on.

The whole genderbent thing really felt like enabling coomer artists tbqh

You know it's not even bitching about woke shit for me anymore, it's more that people making adaptations and reboots often fail to understand the original. Just look at Velma, aside from from the more political stuff what else is a huge problem? It's the constant "Now if we were in X then this would be the part where X would happen" It's trying to make it a Rick and Morty and Family Guy hybrid by copying the worst aspects of both and ingoring anything that earlier episodes more liked.

I can already predict Dale, he's going to subsribe to every modern conspiracy theory such as Qanon, election fraud, flat earth, ect, regardless of anything that was previously established about his character. Not saying that he wouldn't believe in at least one recent theory but he wouldn't instantly believe anything because other crazy people believe it. But reebot Dale would just be a checklist for the writers so they can shoehorn a halfassed joke about every theory that has ever existed while reducing Dale to a completely incompetent dysfunctional idiot with no original thoughts of his own.

Does Shezow count? Though to be fair the creator never intended for the show to be about out cross dressing or trans. Hell the whole joke is the shezow costume and powers went to the wrong person to quote the man himself.

"SheZow is not transgendered. He's a boy, his gender never changes, he's just trapped in a silly costume."

Really this show came out at the right time. It was the last time you could joke like that and not have the ugly trannies on Twitter calling for your head on a pike.

Considering the absolute blunder that was Toy Story 4, my curiousity is a little peaked to see where they would take woody's story for a Toy Story 5. Would they have him regret ditching his friends and family to be with Bo Peep and have him find his way back home? Or would they double down on Woody's character being head over heels for Bo and continue kissing her feet? I'm not very hopeful it would be good mind you, just that the opportunity is there to right some wrongs that the 4th movie left.
