Miranda rights have no "YOU HAVE TO DO THIS SPECIFICALLY AT THIS POINT OF TIME OR THE CASE IS DONE FOR" time. The only real requirements is after an arrest and before questioning. So the police can't ask you questions about the crime in question after being arrested until those are read, but that doesn't mean you can't be charged and end up in jail, it just means the statements you made can't be used against you in court.

And sometimes cops will just completely fail to Mirandize you because they don't even want to introduce evidence from you, they just want information from you.

So long as it isn't evidence they want to use in court, the penalties to them are nothing.
