she also says she wishes the surgery had already happened and it was three months past that where she "would be all healed and be off the liquid diet" - she wants the results, not the work, and she apparently has no clue, or is completely ignoring, that the work goes on forever post-surgery.

InstantLynn. Absolutely clueless. She hasn't even made Step 1 and she's blown off everything after just to stuff her phat fucking maw again.

How does any sane person not see this?

Welcome to Fail, Hamber. Population... YOU.

So far there's no proof she's done anything but call a clinic to bug their receptionist for information that was on their website. We didn't even get to see her in the car on this trip to wherever the clinic was (is she still saying it's in another state?) Who's this employee she friended on Facebook after a 30 minute crying sess in the office? (I thought she didn't like it when medical professionals wanted to be her friend? I heard one of her therapists *literally* showed Amber her Instagram.)
Hate to burst your bubble, but she did actually attend that seminar. The Narc Alert had a member that planted themselves in the same seminar and was on their private discord live during the seminar describing to the letter what Amber was wearing...which we saw for hersrlf a few days later. The seminar was at Kentucky Bariatric Institute, a practice run by Dr Eric Smith in Georgetown Kentucky ( previously known as Georgetown Bariatrics and Advanced Surgical), the same surgeon that that performed Chris and more recently Tammy Slaton's surgeries. Amber has pretty much confirmed that herself now by saying her appointments are about a 30 minute drive from The Henry. I'll give you one guess how far google maps says it is from Lexington to Georgetown.... and if you answer a 30 minute drive you'd be spot on.

As for the teary confessional, it was either performing for the frogs, or practising for her zoom pysch evaluation.

What struck me the most is the very same reason she will never get WLS: despite her saying (to my hilarity) that she's "ready to do the work", she also says she wishes the surgery had already happened and it was three months past that where she "would be all healed and be off the liquid diet" - she wants the results, not the work, and she apparently has no clue, or is completely ignoring, that the work goes on forever post-surgery.

So, she's not even approved for the surgery yet, but she's already looking forward to being healed enough that she can eat again.
While I understand people having this reaction to what she said about wishing she was three months post-op, it's really not uncommon, and not only in WLS situations. Do you really think people head into knee/hip replacement surgery excited for the long painful rehab....they generally don't. They look forward to being able to mobilise again with far less pain. Do you think patients having abdominoplasty or face lifts or boob jobs are excited about months of recovery in compression garments and wound/scar treatment, or wishing the surgery and recovery were already over? Cancer patients don't usually look forward to surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, instead they wish it was over with already. Amber's not unusual at all in this regard, and saying what she did is not indicative in itself of pending failure. There are enough reasons to know she'll fail without adding things that in reality are pretty common human thoughts when it comes to any pending surgery.

Yeah, no.

I think it's normal to wish to be recovered from surgery and no longer in pain. I think it's a portent of failure to wish to be recovered from surgery so that you can go back to doing the very maladaptive thing that made you require surgery. Wanting to return to a better version of your normal self is one thing, but wanting to continue to engage with your addiction is quite another. Letting food be the only source of joy or comfort in her life, the only thing she has to look forward to, is how Amber weighs over 500 pounds. I'd be willing to cut her some slack if she said she wants to be 3 months out from surgery so that she'd no longer be in pain, but her specifically saying that she wants to eat normally, given her history, is indicative of a problem.

We don't encourage patients with end stage liver disease to look forward to being healed from transplant so that they can binge drink again. We don't tell anachans that they're totally relatable when they fantasize about the extreme diet and exercise plan they'll commence as soon as they're released from their inpatient stay. We don't say that a drug addict is having "pretty common human thoughts" when he eagerly anticipates getting off probation so he can score a bag.

Something being common and "human nature" doesn't make it less harmful. Human brains can be broken. Sometimes, they're fixable and sometimes, they're not. Either way, bariatric surgery can't magically cure a person who refuses to even try to address their underlying problem.

I suspect that was a poor choice of words on her part. Most folk dread all the testing then the liquid diets and food progressions both prior to and after surgery. I suspect she just meant normal textures. Amber is dumb, but she isn't so dumb as to think she'll be able to eat the same way after surgery as she does now. She knows what the surgery does to your eating capacity, and I really do think she'd love to be satiated by a single portion of food. She knows she eats multiple portions now. Would she be a WLS failure, unfortunately she very likely will after limited early weightloss, but I do think people are currently picking at nothing for now.
Either way, bariatric surgery can't magically cure a person who refuses to even try to address their underlying problem.
No it can't, and I'm eagerly awaiting the outcome of her upcoming pysch evaluation on two levels. Firstly, what the suggestion moving forward is for Amber, and secondly how she overreacts to it.

Of course they don't. But are they intentionally pounding nails into their kneecaps or hips, crying about how they have ABC disorder, and crying on camera about how they can't control it, or using XYZ program to stop pounding nails into their joints and how they're totally going to beat this on this program, then attempting to feign shame/sorrow by telling the world they made a "bad decision" or didn't "just say no" and once again are pounding nails into their joints? Do they then start up program DEF, repeating the same circle of futility over the course of years?

No.

The typical person also doesn't have a history of showing their lying, lazy ways on video over and over and over again, either.

They look forward to being able to mobilise again with far less pain. Do you think patients having abdominoplasty or face lifts or boob jobs are excited about months of recovery in compression garments and wound/scar treatment, or wishing the surgery and recovery were already over?

Ditto as above. Are they whining about things not being instant? Are they saying, hell yeah, I'm getting this surgery and totally changing my life! only to not do something they're supposed to be doing prior to the procedure?

No.

Cancer patients don't usually look forward to surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, instead they wish it was over with already.

And what happens to the ones who say "Why should I pay someone to torture me when I can cure myself on my own?" (something Hamber has basically asked, on camera)? Yeah. Dead, almost all of them, because they've fucked off to get coffee enemas and whatever other bullshit "holistic" treatment they're sure will save them.

Amber's not unusual at all in this regard, and saying what she did is not indicative in itself of pending failure. There are enough reasons to know she'll fail without adding things that in reality are pretty common human thoughts when it comes to any pending surgery.

Yes, she is, absolutely. We have ten fucking years of her pulling the same bullshit over and over and over again. She says exactly the same thing: she's super ready to do the work! But when it comes right down to it, she doesn't want to do any work, at all, which is why she was so happy about ozempic. Then she discovered it didn't allow her to eat like she wanted to, so she quit.

I'll give you a personal anecdote: I had gallstones, and Bad with a capital B. If the surgeon had told me part of the process was that I had to tear off all the fingernails on my left hand with a pair of needlenose pliers, I'd have done it in an instant. That's how badly I wanted it removed because of the pain. Hamber isn't being asked to do anything near that, not even when she cycles through WW, JC, intuitive eating, or losing one pound to show she has at least that much discipline. And she doesn't. She never has, and she never will, because it involves work and denying herself something she wants more. Hell, she can't even do the therapy required to learn coping mechanisms that don't involve food to get past that. There's no reason for us to not call her current (in)action out for what it is. We're not adding anything that doesn't jibe with her history.

I don't see any American doctor approving her for WLS. To me, it screams some elaborate fantasy in her head. We already know she's delusional. Not when she's made zero effort and over the years has ballooned into an even larger whale. She can barely lose a pound, yet has no problem gaining 20-30.

Back when she was making good money, she could've easily paid for a trip to Mexico to get WLS. There are doctors that do WLS down there that give zero shits: there's no psych exam, no need to lose weight, nothing like that. You just fly down there and get the surgery and stay a few days until you feel good enough to fly back. Some of the clinics will do surgeries back to back. Tons of people who can't do it here the states (too expensive, insurance won't cover it, ect) fly down there to do it.

But she would've fucked that up too. She'd keep gorging even if she had WLS.

Could you have seen any American doctor approving Tammy Slaton for WLS? Because guess what...the same surgeon Amber is seeing, not only approved Tammy Slaton but has actually performed that surgery on her. Why do you think Amber chose that particular surgeon. It is very possible she could get herself approved. She'll still have to come up with all the cash for the pre-op testing, any pysch counselling and $23-25k for the actual surgery though.

I guess you should be appointed the WLS expert in this thread :tomgirl:

Can someone explain to me Ambers crush on ricky
I feel like nobody talks about it and I’m just trying to comprehend wtf that was

You mean her crush on Eric? Rickie hated her ass lol. She was very flirtatious with Eric I assume since he was effeminate and a sped. Just her speed I mean look at her past gorlfrenz, if Amber were thinner she would be sliding down dicks all day but since she is a land mass, lesbian bed death is her only option..

I highly suspect Tammy’s surgery was more of an emergency situation, probably a last ditch effort. They haven’t shown it on the show yet, but regardless, Tammy was near death and checked into an inpatient rehab facility for a year I think? In fact, she’s still there.

Did you watch the show? Tammy ended up losing the weight required, going to pt and voluntarily placed herself into a weight loss rehab. I would have said no to season 1 Tammy if I were the wls surgeon but she has put in the work, I think being oxygen dependent was her wake up call.

Hamber doesn't have a tv show and isn't really on the precipice of death. She's perfectly capable of losing weight without surgery; she simply doesn't want to.

Ricky hated her guts; it was Eric Hamber simpered for. I agree with @dfranki723 that some of it was that Eric would pay attention to er more than the other characters in the hamberverse. I think part of it was also because she (of course) believes in the whole gay bestie trope, so in her YA mind, she was the quirky, dainty princess and he was the gay bestie courtier. Becky was the drab handmaiden and Ricky the evil count who wants to take her power. Density was the prince she pined for and Dana played the part of Shrek.

I'm kind of hoping she gets weight loss surgery. If only to see what she would look like wearing a trash can of skin.

In the alternate universe where Hamber gets WLS, I, too, look forward to this arc.
