Regarding corporate swag, if it's free and it's comfortable, there's no reason NOT to wear it out in public. I have a North Face jacket that I received from a past employer, and while I've plucked all of the embroidery off since, there was absolutely no reason to let that go to waste.
You'll also see a lot of folks being all-in on the corporate swag when they're still in the honeymoon phase, and haven't realized that this employer is just as shit as every other. Tech companies, especially, like to use swag as a means of appeasement to their employees.

They support this shit because it means those nasty volunteers are wasting their time rather than properly competing with Apple, Google, and MicroSoft. Even better, it helps to drive away the intelligent people. At best, those companies may change their documentation, but they're just having some idiots or machines doing it anyway, so it's no loss to them.
Those at the top understand exactly how retarded that shit is. I particularly like feed two birds with one scone. There's nothing quite like trying to destroy idioms on the path to destroying the ability to communicate and think. I get the distinct impression these people don't support it for their native languages, curiously.

Holy shit, I never thought of it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. The sudden uptick in very corporate CoCs appearing in open source projects was something I assumed came from just the typical feminist "attempting to destroy toxic masculinity", as if that was somehow ever a major problem in open source projects. When they went after Stallman, I actually did see it for what it was, monied interests trying to install somebody new who was more agreeable.

The mentality that if you kiss your employer’s ass you’ll get promoted is a quickly dying belief for the younger generation. It used to be that if you could stick out your office job for a local company, you could easily climb up the corporate ladder and make a better income for your family. This simply isn’t the case anymore for 99% of employers. Employers now than ever are more disconnected from their employees due to lack of camaraderie in the modern day workplace. It’s one of the many ways we are slowly sinking into a latestage capitalistic hellhole where individuality is quashed and the average Joe can only rent out of a Soviet bloc-style IKEA apartment because the remaining homes in the town are owned by banks or blackrock with jacked prices and the modern day employer barely pays to cover the rent.
Fuck, you would have thought COVID would have ignited a workers revolution like the Depression did with the workers strikes, emerging unions, and New Deal. Instead we’re slowly marching farther into a post-modern wasteland where megacorps breathe down our necks.

Work culture in the us is nothing like Asia. You can sample it by here by working under an Asian immigrant manager, or an Asian country. This is especially true if you are the same ethnicity as your manager.
Work culture in Asian is largely about appearance, ie you are expected to spend long hours even if you accomplish absolutely nothing and kiss your boss's ass over everything. Becoming manager is the pinnacle of pajeet's existence. Here, all this linkedin corporate speak has no anchor in reality. Only recruiters take LinkedIn seriously. Most people use it once every few years to look for a new job. Most of the pressure to work overtime in a salaried position comes from yourself. There are companies with bad work life balance, but they are usually well documented and it is your own fault if you stay in such a position.

Do you have any articles about Asian work culture? What does having the "appearance" of busyness entail?
Is it like the American version of "office worker who plays games on his phone with no one looking after automating all his work with Excel" on steroids, or is there a fundamentally different presentation that has only the most superficial points in common with the American "equivalent" I described?

Great thread OP. You see LinkedIn and "career people" cringe posted (and equally mocked) everywhere, so it's nice to have a containment thread on the farms.
Haven't spent more than a minute at a time on LinkedIn so I never see the cringe side of it. But man some of this stuff is horrifying. Imagine having to come in to work before 6 am in the winter, only for your boss to have you scream corporate slogans like a retard and dance to surfing bird........for minimum wage
