Pizza Tower - wacky-but-stylish indie action game still under the radar

I've decided to become autistic (my pronouns are puzzle/piece) and undertake the infuriating journey of P ranking every single level in the game. Each one takes me around an hour of trying and I want to rip my hair out. Why would I continue to do this, you ask? Because the feeling you get when you finally pull it off is indescribable. It's like cumming a thousand times at once. I feel like a gaming god. All you peasants are beneath me.

Got around to playing this after the price had me wary for so long and its been absolutely worth it for me.
There's so much silly charm in this game that always cracks me up no matter how brutal it is to the P ranks. I was a bit overwhelmed with Peppino's moveset at first but got used to it pretty quickly and pulling off moves well to keep momentum going feels incredible.
The game also scores a few extra points with me for seemingly taking inspiration from the Jazz Jackrabbit games on top of Wario Land. From the attitude of the game, the sound design in the menus or the level art.

At some point, when i have the internet to, i should upload the Pizza Tower leaks i found, mostly music stuff and a few prototype builds. They were from some script kiddie who stole the discord token of one of the devs, this here .doc file should explain it better.

That one tweet calling this game "celeste for weirdos" made the troons find the game and now you have tumblr/twitter/reddit unironically making him a "trans icon" so i'm really glad i finished a new cool game before the internet ruins it. Be wary of what kind of fans you talk with.

Game has +6k steam reviews already which is pretty impressive for a true indie game that doesnt even have a metacritic score due to lack of reviews. It already achieved meme status due to crossover meaning normies from all kind of fandoms are at least aware of it thanks to twitter and reddit (at least i see it in many subreddits).

Forgive the comparison but IMO this is a lot more impressive than celeste who, in hindsight, received ridiculous critical push to the point there is still an ironic circlejerk about it being a "hidden gem" to this day.

As soon as pizza tower gets a real publisher and console ports then word of mouth will reaaaally make it pop off and they might add the removed stuff like stages, characters and even coop lol.

To this day I will never understand the appeal of celeste other than maybe initially people wanted something akin to super meat boy again I guess. But then one day out of nowhere devs said "uhhh actually the mc is a troon and the game is secretly about confronting this or some gay shit I dunno!" coincidentally around the time one of the devs/composers trooned out, then that's when trannies latched onto it HARD.
Celeste as a game has no reason to exist in my opinion. Why on God's green earth would you ever play this over actual super meat boy? The only thing the game has going for it is the music, which even then I'm not too crazy about, while the gameplay is one-note, the look of the game is typical "indie pixel shit" with portraits that are straight out of calarts school. Also doesn't help that because of how """successful""" celeste was any modern challenging platformer is now this image.

You could say super meat boy isn't any better but I dunno, maybe I'm a hypocrite grumpy old man.

But to go back to what matters, if Pizza Tower were to get console ports then this shit would go gangbusters 100% it's not even funny. I'm a firm believer in that.

I've only been able to do john gutter, but I can concur in saying the feeling is so fucking worth it.

I've done about half the levels in the game. Progress is slow, but I've been pretty busy with work lately. The hardest level to P rank so far has definitely been Oregano Desert. It's way too long, and there are a lot of points in the level where you have to play perfectly and remember exactly what steps to take to keep your combo. If you fuck up and touch a single cow, or forget the layout of a specific pizza mart, you have to restart. Gnome Forest is also a huge pain in the ass. The level is 90% Gustavo and I'm just not as good with him as I am with Peppino. Accidentally jumping off of a wall when I didn't mean to fucked me over so many times. That level also has those teleporting cactus pickle niggers that need to burn in hell.

Wow what a surprise this game has ended up being. This is one of the most enjoyable new games I've played in a long time.

This game in so many ways just does it right. I didn't expect it to be so good, most game devs and especially indies fail to get what made the old Nintendo games so good. This one does, the platforming is fun and challenging, the humor is outstanding, the artwork is hilarious. I hate when Westerns try to do faux-anime it usually looks like shit. The devs of Pizza Tower smartly takes 90s Nintendo art and marries it with crude western art.

It's just entertaining as hell. One complaint I've read is people complaining that it faults you for not speedrunning. Well if you just want to play the silly game you don't have to give a damn about the ranks. What's wrong with these gamers? Do you think it matters if a game comically mocks your performance?

TL;DR Buy this damn game please, we need more software like it.

It's practically these posts repeated over and over, but never posts proof so he's been getting swept up by jannies the moment he starts posting, I definitely remember when McPig was posting about the game early on and taking criticism but the Keffals connection really was just some schizo trying to take down the game, maybe someone got big mad in his discord server or something

TL;DR Buy this damn game please, we need more software like it.

I'd argue the game is actually extremely lenient with ranks other than P rank which is impossible to get on your first run anyway. Most of my first runs were A or B and i walked way more than running. You dont need to speedrun to get an A, just pick and kill everything without getting dozens of hits. If you ever get a D on a normal stage then its not because you played slow but because you got hit +30 times and shouldnt be surprised.

Is there any reason to do multiple playthroughs? A lot of people discussing the game talk about P-ranking all levels on their 2nd playthrough, why bother when you can just go back and repeat them on your 1st save file? Are there missables?

I can't stress this enough, I love the artstyle. It has the same aesthetic as the likes of Cow & Chicken, Billy & Mandy, Angry Beavers, Beavis & Butthead and Ren & Stimpy.
