From one bong to another: it really, really doesn't matter. The Scottish, Geordie, and Yorkshire accents are similar enough to an outsider that it's a reasonable mistake to make. In any case I think this country's obsession with regional accents ultimately does it more harm than good and is a major part of how the class system has entrenched itself.

To the algorithm stuff, I think there's probably truth to both sides: YouTube definitely does actively bury certain content, but if your videos are good they will succeed regardless of if YouTube fucks with your SEO. In Jim's case, I wouldn't be surprised if YouTube is actually boosting his visibility as a 'trans' creator talking about woke shit, but the reality is his content sucks so even the people who care about topics Jim covers would rather hear about it elsewhere.

Jim's modern content is on par with a YouTube atheist circa 2005: an angry midwit ranting at the camera and regurgitating points he heard somebody else make. What about that is supposed to appeal to an audience in 2023?

I'm just catching up with last night's MATI stream and I got to the bit where Null is talking about Jim's intro song. Fun fact, I know where Jim found it.

It was played on an old episode of Ricky Gervais' radio show about 20 years ago, during a one-off feature where they showcased indie bands and chose their favourite. I know this is where Jim heard it, because it's also where he lifted his entire comedy persona and the way he interacted with Jonathan Holmes (strange naked guy in the YMCA bathroom in the 800k video) back in the Podtoid days.

I don't care about regional accents overall - my accent is closer to RP than Geordie. I just find it utterly bizarre that people's ears can be so fucked that they mistake a Geordie and a Yorkshire lass for Scottish. I disagree that the accents are similar, also. Geordie and Mackem are similar accents to each other but to Scottish and Yorkshire...? That's like thinking a New Yorker is Texan, or a Valley Girl accent is Canadian.
