No bullshitting here. In the first beta build for Windows 11, if you pressed F7 on any of the new UI elements - the lock screen, the task bar, the Start menu, the new Explorer bits, the Windows 11 Control Panel, hell, I think even the new right-click context menu - there was a bug that would turn on Edge's Caret Browsing mode. It got fixed very quickly from what I remember and it no longer happens.

But, if you install a completely brand new, clean install of Windows 11 and you keep it disconnected from the Internet? Open the Task Manager and you'll see a dozen or so instances of Edge in the background. Kill them, and you break the shell.

Yes. Microsoft has gone full retard and is actively rewriting the Windows shell to be a god damn Electron app.

Was talking to a manager about how many computers we're gonna have to trash because of microshit's bullshit (basically everything below gen 8 intel chips) and he said the CTO is considering switching to redhat over this.

Red Hat Enterprise is a whole other level of pain, just write the test and see.

But at least there are 150,000 "true blue IBMers" in Bangalore who can support it. Many I have spoken to have RHE certs dating back to the 80s and 35+ years of RHE experience. Impressive!

If the goal is to save money it's probably best to stick with Windows. I don't know how expensive RHEL is but Macs are going to blow both options out of the water, I'm sure.

The one good thing about the webification and subscription-ification of business software is that it actually makes it feasible to switch between Windows, Mac, and Linux without having to pay for extra OS-specific licenses. I still would not move an entire enterprise to a Mac solution just because nothing about a Mac can be replaced or upgraded by the end-user. Most of the time, Apple just e-wastes your RMAed machine and sends you a brand new one.

Actually the fact that you picked like the only relatively widespread distro that isn't even Unix-based is pretty impressive. Even iOS is a unix distro at the end of the day.
But BSD enthusiasts are their own strange animal. I've only met 2 in my life who tried to use it as their daily driver, and they were bizarre dudes. It's primarily used as the development base for switch/router OSes. It's weird af when they plug a GUI into it.
