Taeyeon - it's not exactly "horrific" but a real shame imo. She has zero character to her look now. I just saw her again after about a decade and I couldn't even recognize her. I suppose that'll happen if you break into that industry before going under the knife.

In Taeyeon's case, her use of cosmetic plastic surgery increased tenfold after her debut as a soloist. She was already well known in her idol group Girl's Generation where she dabbled in smaller cosmetic procedures but after her solo career took off she has only upped the surgery. Every year her nose gets smaller and smaller and it is practically just two holes now. She has it turned up way too high. Keep in mind she is in her 30s now, well established in her career, and probably has lots of bodily and artistic independence now than she did before so any surgery she does get is on her own will. But as she ages it seems like her body and facial dysmorphia seem to worsen.

Idols from this company (SM Entertainment, one of the most notable Korean Entertainment companies) are notorious for having plastic surgery when they are trainees so they look like completely different people when they debut. This is pretty common among a majority of Korean entertainment companies. SM Entertainment has always tried to present this clean-rich image among their idols and is notorious for having their idols go under the knife at a young age so they can meet the SM's beauty standards. There is this running joke about a nose type called an "SM nose" basically, all of the trainees at the company have really similar noses - slim and straight nose bridges with an upturned nasal tip.

Another case:

Namjoo from Apink (another popular group from a different company) got a really botched nose job in 2018. Her nose looked like it was melting
Over time it healed and she got revision work done on it as well so it looks better nowadays.

For those who don't know, Park Bom is from a very famous group and entertainment company called YG Entertainment. She was a member of their first girlgroup called 2NE1 in 2009. 2NE1 got a lot of flack in Korea because, despite their fame and artistic talent, they never had the ideal Korean beauty standard except for the visual member Dara, (wearing feathers on the top left). Park Bom is on the bottom left. This photo was from their earlier days when Park Bom began to fine-tune her face bit by bit. She always looked bloated and extremely uncomfortable in the years following.

This photo is around the time of their debut where they are wearing no makeup.

This is highly illegal because not only was she unknowingly smuggling drugs from abroad, but because it was Adderall and Adderall is illegal in Korea. The Korean netizens did not care that her ADHD script was legit, they still viewed her as an amphetamine junkie. Park Bom was struggling because she was being denied her stimulant medication, had the whole of Korea hating her, and the medical treatment for ADHD she was receiving in Korea was not as adequate as the one in America. Her reputation really never recovered from this and she was known amongst many as a druggie and a plastic monster. Korea has kinda forgotten about her nowadays which I think is good for her mental health, she received so much unwarranted hate which caused her to spiral. It seems like she is living a more quiet and more peaceful life now.

The American university hospital that gave her the script vouched for her during the investigation. IIRC her family lived in the states at the time and would pick up her prescription and send it to her by post because her schedule was so busy in Korea. Bom feigned ignorance of Korea's drug laws claiming that she did not know what she was doing was illegal and was not aware of the Adderall ban in Korea. The case was quickly dismissed, and no criminal charges were put on her but Korea still called her a drug smuggler even though she was cleared of these allegations.

The status symbol thing too. If you gave all the insecure women a compassionate lover and a great family who were all good to her they'd still think they need to change an imperfection about themselves every 6 months. If the family was all dumpy looking, she'd think she's the most hideous of all. If the family was all good looking, she would feel like a freak who didn't deserve them for being such a bad shape. It's thought patterns and insecurity turned bad, and it's good to recognize when it is so proper help can be given (if accepted, mental health is a bitch and all) and other people don't feel so hurt when they complement someone like this and they just badmouth themselves every single time - the responsibility isn't on the commenter, it's on the person who thinks like this.

It's still good to say to women that most men don't notice the little things and don't care for the plastic look: it helps ease concern in younger girls and general insecure women who aren't that far gone. It's always freeing to know that men and anyone who you want to like you as a friend aren't as harsh on yourself as you are on yourself, or your parents or friends or whoever else is also fueling some self judgement.
