There seems to be evidence that he views bills and credit card minimums as money he is forced to pay. If he is ever in a situation where he pays rent, I imagine that will fall into the forced payments category as well.
If he is forced to fend for himself, I am sure he will buy all kinds of dumb crap. But I don't think he will be evicted. At least not right away. I think there is a possibility that over the years, the debt piles up so he can't afford the minimums, but in the short term he will view rent in the same way he views Barb hectoring him for money. Necessary, but annoying. The world is trolling him, but he has no choice but to roll with it.
This is a very accurate observation IMO. When Chris knows that "not paying anything = credit card cut off", he'll very grudgingly make a payment, but only the most minimal of one (this is not evidence that he is responsible with finances. Just that he knows the difference between "This is pain. This is absence of pain" stimuli). The entropy of this though is that sooner or later, he will have filled up his available credit from new purchases and all his $25 a month payments are doing is keeping the debt rolling on an on for years with compounded interest, and no credit limit left to buy anything new. Chris' only blessing is that his being on SSI makes that income immune from being garnished.
