I like yahtzee and his content. Among the literal nobody's in the "game critics" sphere, he managed to stay somewhat consistent. He's not perfect, but he can at least formulate his opinion in a decent manner. Of course, of the years, his shtick got a bit old. Overall, his Hogwarts review would have been fine. It is no secret that he has some major gripes with AAA games. But the whole Rowling is a cunt and TERF thing was unnecessary. I'm playing devil's advocate here, but "He's imitating a skilled predecessor" is possibly the most worthless argument you can make when it comes to literature. You might as well crucify Tolkien and Lewis for pilfering Chesterton's notes. (Actually, come to think of it, Tolkien and Lewis might have come about when lightning struck Chesterton, causing him to split into his mythological half and his theological half. He certainly had the mass for it.) I'm not comparing the good Mr. Croshaw to either of those worthies, of course. I'm just saying that "copying somebody better" is a tradition in literature that dates back to the second guy to invent writing.

Hogwarts Legacy definitely has more than a few AAA cliches in its DNA, but it's hard to stay cynical when everything's so twee 80% of the time. I could see someone getting bored with it, but actively angry? Nah that's a stretch.

This week on Zero Punctuation, Yahtzee reviews Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world Harry Potter game mired in controversy over JK Rowling.

I gave up watching it. The first minute was just him seething about JK Rowling instead of reviewing the game, and even when he started reviewing the game proper he was still seething about how other authors came up with the concept of a wizard school first.

If he hates JK Rowling that much then just boycott the game like the unhinged trannies.

Oof damn this one was painful to get through, such a shame that Yahtzee had to drink from the troonshine but I’m not really surprised, If I was going to be extremely generous and say that he did this review under duress and clearly wasn’t up for the task for dealing with a game with so much stupid controversy but even then he could have simply distanced himself from this game if he really didn’t want to go up to the task.

I personally don’t think he’s not hit cow status or jumped the shark just yet because he’s retained a pretty consistent history of review quality and I get why everyone is schreeching about this since the narrative has been pushed by mainstream journals that even some normies are being convinced that JK Rowling is a Terf at this point. It is still a bit pathetic for him to compromise his integrity like this for someone who was known for being so groundbreaking and anti-woke. It’s a solid review for its criticisms but it’s disappointing even so. We’ll have to wait and see how far he goes down this whole street, such a shame.
