Careercow Ash/Anna Kreider / Wundergeek / Go Make Me a Sandwich - Takes Feminist Gamer Critic to a New Level

  • It seems like a lot pisses her off, even things that other feminist critics gloss over: too many of the goddesses in Smite are good; if there's not an true equal number of women in a picture, not enough female fighting-type classes being represented (how dare a number of them being mages or clerics who just "twiddle their thumbs in battle"), if men in real life are leaning forward too much or taking up too much room when sitting (and sees it as an attack against her), the barbarian class is an insult to Native Americans (scroll down) because barbarians are portrayed as savage and natural and those were accusations white people used against Native American to murder them, etc.
Has she never heard of Conan the Barbarian before?

Holy shit she actually says a majority of the people who dies in the Orlando shooting were queer women. :story:This bitch is living on another plane of existence.
What?... How... what?
I know she's married and has a very young daughter. Though I do fear for any future sons
Honestly I fear for that girl. You just know that she's telling her that all men just want to use women or something. That kids going to get screwed up.

Deary me. I fear for her daughter's sanity. And her husband's sanity for that matter. Actually, she probably beats him or gaslights him and then when he points this out he's shouted at that it's not really abuse because male privilege or that he had it coming for some reason, or that he clearly objects to strong independent women who call men out on their bullshit.

This thing about not being allowed to play any game which contains fanservicely-dressed female characters. Sorry, but no. You can't assume that just because a woman is scantily clad she's a victim of THE PATRIARCHY. Miranda, Jack, etc. in ME2 are independent and autonomous characters in their own right; they dress like that because they want to; in Jack's case, it's a "fuck you" to the social norms of the society which bred her as a living weapon, arguably. But that's a spergout for another day. Then again, a lot of feminists in Kreider's mould claim that women who dress fanservicely are only doing it because they're brainwashed by THE PATRIARCHY.

She already has an article of games she'd refuse to let her play. That and she despises the early Sonic games for the fact that the four main characters were all guys.
Its funny. Something like Bulletstorm is surprisingly NOT on that list. Mario though? BURN ALL COPYS OF IT!

People like this are why you should never try to pander to rabid feminists. They'll just move goalposts.

I can understand not letting your grade school play mature-themed games, but because there's not a perfect amount of male to females (or the ladies out-number the men) in a kid-friendly game is another.

As for the hubby, I'm picturing the relationship being like this...

I honestly never understand these people.
Lets just say for example i hate football.
I wouldnt waste my days writing long ass articles about why i hate it, about institutional racism and sexism and rape culture.
I wouldnt watch interviews with players just to find things to hate them for or watch a big match so i could say what a total waste of time it was.
If i dont like something i go do things i like.
These people dont want to change the things they hate because then they have nothing to hate.
If the industry gave in it wouldnt make them gamers....they would just alter the goal posts and try and make sure everything that had gone before was altered to their tastes.
And when everything is a PC wasteland they wouldnt have the sense to work out why diversity is gone and everything is now grey lifeless blobs.
Part of diversity is accepting the things you dont like about the world and its people, just because something triggers you doesnt give you the right to stop people enjoying it.....unless its illegal ofcourse.

Something something racism, something something male power fantasy. That's a rough guess at how she'd respond to Conan the Barbarian.

As much as how we all have our own list of what games we refuse to play, refusing to play a game because a title is a sausage-fest means you'd just be locking yourself out of a fun experience. And the Damsel in Distress thing also comes off as a cop-out as to why one wouldn't play a game. Sure that story device may seem like a dead horse but then again, so can any other trope.

Well absolutely. It is one of the more objectionable ones out there, I think, on the basis that it really does smack of lazy writing if nothing else. "Oh, I don't know why the hero has to go on an epic quest to slay the Big Bad, so let's make it so that said Big Bad kidnapped the Princess Iona MacDougall of Dundee."

I refuse to finish Dragon Age Inquisition, not because some internet person wrote a spergy rant about how it's infected with SJW nonsense, but because it's really fucking boring and has roughly three interesting characters. And also, I could probably, if I had the time or energy, come up with some contrived reason about how it's "problematic" and should have the fuck boycotted out of it, but I have better things to do.

She's got a new response to the previous article and on being a good queer ally. I've noticed that the kinds of allies that either aren't browbeat or fakers, tend to act in a similar way that Anna does to those on a higher "privileged" scale. To have any privilege (for example, being a thin, CIShet Indian woman) means that it's okay for those who who are not (example: fat, darker skinned, non-het and/or trans people) to demonize you, blame you for their problems, throw the sins of others on your back and act like your existence hurts them. Thus, you will be stuck being their servant, parrot and attack dog which will be a thankless job where your feelings are to be locked away. So if the ally has someone who is higher, they can attack/guilt that person (let's say a white CIShet man) and return the pain. (Some will become really harsh.)

Overall, there's a number of good post that are pointing out that she made her accusations too soon and the thing is now closed.

Theres a difference between having a list of games you wouldnt play and a list of games you refuse to play.

As example i wouldnt play something like a FIFA game or NFL stuff or most platform games because they hold no appeal for me but if a friend insisted on some couch co-op the i guess i would.
Games you REFUSE to play should be reserved for stuff like Rapelay and battle raper. Stuff thats actually offensive not shit like Sonic adventure.

Like how you wouldn't want to watch the room but REFUSE to watch your uncles snuff flick.

Someone needs to rescue that poor kid stat. Jesus Christ, the husband must be a better cuck than Jake Rapp.
She does admit to having problems with being mentally ill and dealing with depression. Honestly, my heart goes out to her and her struggles there. Anna brings out the armchair psychologist in me and I had to wonder if she has some issues with paranoia as well. She can only see misogyny and hate in the gaming industry and its male players as if they're out to destroy her and other women.

Or maybe she's trying to be like the Angry Video Game Nerd with her raging and swearing, but unlike James Rolfe who you know deep down loves video games and even has some affection for the bad ones, I really don't see any love towards the tabletop industry, real enjoyment of gaming or even liking the people involved. (Other than saying she does.) That and his cursing is a lot more creative.

There definitely is a difference. The games she seemed to list though are nothing more than inoffensive games such as Mario and Sonic.

While there are some points on her article on inclusive art, looking at the guidelines she made, it feels like a trap. As in the goal post will eventually be pulled farther away and she can come and scream at you some more.

The problem with the 50/50 rule on male and female characters is that you can never have an odd number which would make adding new characters tricky. (Something she loves to endorse.) I'm sure the answer would be make the new character either a woman or agender. So if you want to make the new one a man, you have to either swallow your idea and change the gender, don't make a new character or make the male character, but also have a new woman as well. I've also noticed there's never really a push to include POC villains as there are heroes by her and other critics.

Somehow, I find it rather telling how she discusses games she would never, ever let her daughter play and mentions stuff she is years to young for. The kid's three and she barely mentions games meant for her age range.
You wouldn't let your three year old play Hitman? I'm sure Square is frantically trying to find a way to better female representation to make you recant that position.
