Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Gaming communities didn't die because of lack of interest like so many claim they did. They died because of cliquish groups of high schoolers treating randoms off lfg as less than human. Fuck off its not unreasonable to be decent online. The "internet dumbass theory" is just glownigger bullshit because if it was true at all, then most of this thread would not be even close to anything resembling civil discussion.

Its no surprise that we went from trash talking lobbies of mw2 where people went back and forth to REMOVED FROM FIRETEAM on a whim as soon as the option to boot players from the lobby was given to them from what devolved into matchmaking lobbies in most games today.
Man what I'd give for a gaming clan.

A score based game like Galaga or Dig Dug is infinitely replayable, whereas cucksoomers must buy a fresh round of gay story games each year, each of which becomes worthless upon completion, then buy each additional sequel to find out what gay things happen next.
Honestly, I think we don't get enough Galagas or Dig Dugs nowadays. Classic high-score chasing arcade titles like those are peak gaming. You sit me down with only a MAME install filled with those kinds of games and I'm content to play only those for the rest of time. I want to see more shit like that come out, completely devoid of microtransactions or online capabilities (beside maybe high-score leaderboards because those are always nice)

There was a quiet resurgence of games like these in the early to mid-2000's with a lot of the old CD-ROM PC puzzle/arcade genre titles, but they've all but died out now from what I've found. I just want a small, offline game with poppy, simple graphics, good music/sound design, addictive but extremely simple/accessible and satisfying gameplay, and a high skill ceiling. Is that really asking so much? I haven't even bought a AAA movie game like new RE, RDR, GoW, COD, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Fallout, etc. ever and I don't really intend to change that because I'm completely satisfied just going back to games like New Rally-X and Ms. Pac-Man.

Also, the Wii's motion controls get too much hate, Super Mario 64 is the best 3D Mario, and indie games are usually decent but they get too much leeway on account of how many of them are made by genderspecials and trannies.

Dunno if this is even close to unpopular, but in terms of 3D Mario Platformers, Galaxy 1 (and I guess by extension Galaxy 2) is the Peak of 3D linear Mario Games. And Odyssey is the Peak of 3D non-linear Mario Games.

But in terms of which ones I had more fun with? I'd probably say the Galaxy games are more enjoyable.

A new DBZ Tenkaichi Budokai game got announced, and though I don't know my opinion about it is actually unpopular, I'm gonna wager it is, judging from all the people freaking out anout it on twatter and such places:

Why the fuck does anyone want to go back to these shitty games? For literal decades we had to put up with absolute kusoge DBZ fighting games, from the terrible SNES ones to the shitty PS1 ones to the horrid floating beamspam festivals where everyone fights the same of later generations.

When DBFZ came out, though I'm not a huge fan, I thought "Yes, we finally have a proper fighting game for Dragon Ball, it's not perfect but surely this means we can put all that Budokai bullshit behind us permanently, and the DBZ fans will from now on have a higher standard for their fighting games."

And now all the niggas and mexiggas are hooting and hollering for the return to these dark ages?
BAFFLING.

I would argue that the communities died because of the fragmentation that happened because of discord. And another reason I wager would be because almost all modern, especially MP games, eliminated the need to communicate. Shit like dailies, dungeon finder tools were the death knell. People got conditioned not to talk to each other because the games don't require it anymore. And of course all the modern political bullshit didn't help either.

Videogame Dunkey's video really summed up my experience with the game. I never figured out the omniscient AI that could hit you with a hand grenade from 30 miles away.

I remember it sure looking pretty on the first PC I built, but that's about all the good I can say about it.
It looked great but even at the time there was a feeling of "that's bullshit..." in fights and that was before the mutants showed up. I played some of it a couple of years ago and it looks like ass now. It looks pretty(considering how old it is) from certain angles in certain screenshots but from other angles and in motion it's not exactly great. Maybe there's a fan patch that fixes it, but the impostors are impossible not to spot, even at 800x600. And there will be A LOT of them in outside environments. Then the models pop in very visibly when taking a step forward.

The game was fun as a bullshit sandbox of chaos and mayhem though.

Probably not that unpopular, but I think open world games need less side missions, not more.
Fewer side missions, that tie closely into the game's plot, instead of a large number of generic fetch quests like most games do. The best example I have is the Batman games. Most of the side missions feel very meaningful to the plot, driving it forward on some level, even if they're not directly related to the main story.

Nostalgia, it's always sweet blinding nostalgia.

I do find the response to be a little weird, too. I get people being excited for having a series they love return. But at the same time it feels like people are acting as if this is the first time in a decade that we're getting an over the shoulder, free flying button basher. Some of them like Xenoverse 2 are still getting support. Toei could have slapped the Budokai 4 title on most of those games and I probably wouldn't have batted an eye.
Guild Wars 2 is slowly circling the drain these days; I mean, we all know the game has had a fairly shit story right from the get-go, but the past few expansions of the game have really started putting the nails in the coffin. The constant focus on gender politics - strong women, weak men, troons and fags everywhere, etc. - is one of the bigger issues, as it pretty much makes ever plot and antagonist into the same general mold; Path of Fire was fairly solid, but Icebrood Saga and End of Dragons - where the gendercult really began to infect everything - are both complete shit.

I had forgotten to mention this the last time. My favorite bit from End of Dragons has to be when they make some nobody throwaway character retroactively gay in the most blatant & cynical way possible to squeeze as much corporate approved representation as possible.

Budokai is good, Budokai Tenkaichi is ass, it's too bad they went 3D. They should just do a Tekken, Street Fighter, or Smash clone.

Btw, one SNES DBZ fighter was good, Hyper Dimension. The rest are kinda trash aside from a bit of spectacle.

Its a fact that art direction trumps realism every time, but there are some instances where the art style is just so damn ugly that its completely offputting to me

Looked over the respective KF thread on this and the consensus is that its great, but fuck me, i can't bring myself to look at it for more than a trailer's time worth, will not be purchasing either

Its artstyle screams 90s and 2000s era of animated shows and it's amazing.

Kind of a shame you find its art style unappealing, because I've watched Discord friends play through it, and I can say that game looks genuinely fun, with a high skill ceiling and a fantastic soundtrack to boot.

OPINION TAX: I don't really care for Metroidvanias. I don't think they accomplish anything that a linear platformer could on its own. Most of the time all the "exploration" is just mandatory backtracking to areas you've already been to after you've found a "key" to get a second "key," just so you can backtrack to where you were and start using that "key."

Permanent powerups? There's a high likelihood that it'll just devolve into searching for hidden blocks to destroy so that you can get into this area you passed by seventeen times already, but either didn't have the "key" to open it, or the game didn't telegraph that there was a secret there to begin with. Hooray for backtracking!

God help you if the fast travel is either in limit positions or doesn't exist at all. Because if there's somewhere you want to go, that means EVEN MORE BACKTRACKING WHY IS THIS EVEN A THING?

Basically what I'm saying is that Luna Nights is overrated. It has cool ideas, don't get me wrong, but making it a Metroidvania was probably the wrong way to go about it. It commits all of these sins, and with the complex time manipulation-based platforming, it made backtracking a fucking chore.

Battlefield 4 is not my favorite Battlefield. The scale of maps makes combat feel contrived with long range engagement and camp heavy corridors. That said, I applaud DICE for evolving destruction beyond mere buildings.

1 peaked the series with destructible and interactive environments with its WW1 setting.
Battlefield 4 was complete piss, all of its maps (all of them) sucked compared to the Battlefiwld 3 equivalents.

Modular DLC sounded nice back when it was pitched as a way to make expansions more optional and cheaper, but it has since been proven inferior to expansion packs by the fact that modular DLC creates a pressure to make the mechanics be totally separate from all other game systems and, hence, irrelevant. Paradox really pioneered this garbage and Anno 1800 seems to suffer from it too.

The only game I've ever played that the horrible writing made me consider the game absolute garbage was Borderlands 3, which is really sad because the game is really competent otherwise.

And again, I'm talking about that kind of writing that contaminates everything else, like cancer, it sucks the enjoyment of everything else and can't be ignored.
You know, there is a mod for that on PC. It removes all the audio dialogue in the game so you skip those fucking parts. Its a pretty popular mod for the game on pc, you have to wonder how the dev team feel that there was such an outcry for a skip button for the relentlessly unfunny "dialogue".

20 years ago games were great because waypoint/objective markers had yet to completely take over every genre and become so entrenched in game design that most think it's a needed feature in every single release. There was a time when levels were designed in ways that encouraged a player to go one way but the player themselves felt like they were exploring and figuring it out with no hand holding. Now all you do is run towards the big marker that is on your screen blocking your view for 99% of the game.

It's been two decades of this shit, can we please for the sake of fuck move away from this type of design, can I be allowed to look around myself and not know where the objectives and enemies are at all times, can I be surprised by things because I didn't know they were coming or didn't know what I was walking into, it always is so immersion breaking. I guess the people that played games without markers must of been psychics because how else could they have navigated a level, what did they do, use their senses? No way man, no fucking way can gaymers do that, games shouldn't be work.

Instead let's just see through walls and have all the enemies highlighted in red so you can't miss then, oh here is an ambush behind this door but you will never get the joy of being surprised by it because you already know it's coming, oh where could that ancient idol in this tomb be hidden, well it couldn't be 53m in front of me where this giant circle thing is that won't get off my screen could it?

Oh but the telemetry! The telemetry says that players hate being lost, they hate having periods of low action, they hate having to look around themselves, it was just pure idiocy that ID designed OG Doom with no markers on your screen for key locations, what were they thinking making the player work for their victory. Just need constant pew pew action and to not think, people are too busy to think, people want to finish the game quickly so they can move on to the next game, gotta rush, gotta not die, gotta face no adversity, next thing is coming out and I need to finish this tonight!

I'll never claim to be a top contender; but it's why I eventually stop trying to be in raiding guilds and pretty much did free-agent tanking for prog groups or if a guild was short. You join a group of people and think, okay, we can get along; but there was always drama behind the scenes and shit would always break apart, fracture, or run off with the entire guild bank, or other problems. Then you're left trying to determine who has more skill and less of a shit-bag, but come to realize they're both shitty and some try to fucking guilt you like you're real life friends or some shit. Nah man, I mined that ore and fished that shit up because it was good for the group to raid; there was no deeper meaning about it.

And even being a free agent comes with its problems at times; but at the same time if a group sucks, I have no problem telling them they're retarded and leave.

I don't know how that could be an unpopular opinion, I can barely stand to look at the preview image for that video.
