This is a good observation and reminds me of one of the points raised by Janice Raymond's classic terf-tome The Transsexual Empire. The titular "empire" refers to the fact that the people under the "trans umbrella" have practically nothing in common with one another. What do Bruce Jenner, Kevin Gibes, Chaz Bono, and Chloe Cole have in common with one another? What do heterosexual married men who get erections when they steal their wives' underwear have in common with depressed middle-school girls who wish they were k-pop boyband stars? The fact that "trans" is able to form an "empire" of so many different types of people is how it piggy-backs onto other movements and worms its way into things that should be completely unrelated. It's also why "LGBT" is so inaccurate. Gay men and lesbians have precious little in common, save for experiencing exclusive same-sex attraction. Trans has nothing in common with being gay at all. You don't need surgery to be gay. But if you say "LGBT" to a well-meaning, but uniformed person, they'll think of normie same-sex couples wanting to get married, not deranged reddit power-mods.
This is also part of why trans-only "havens" inevitably implode into a swirling maelstrom of drama. What did Kindness, the female munchie wannabe-therapist layabout, have in common with Penny, the ex-military gun-nut eunuch? So many flavors of crazy, all under one roof.

I wanted to add that this Machiavellian tendency is present in a lot of fetishists. The poly dude who wants a harem? The only thing important to him is being able to say "I have 5 girlfriends" - who the girlfriends are doesn't matter. Men with a fetish for leather boots? Mine is too, but what you've said pretty much comports with what I know. I think a lot of this flies in the face of Heller/McDonald, which seem to indicate that such prohibitions must be evaluated in a constitutional challenge under strict scrutiny, that is, narrowly tailored to address a compelling state interest, and this would require any deprivation of Second Amendment rights to be the result of an actual adjudication, not just an arbitrary declaration from some government functionary.

However, the Court hasn't yet taken up a case actually ruling on any of this, despite contradictory rulings across the country from lower courts. It's been over a decade since McDonald, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it addressed fairly soon, as circuit splits arise. I don't think it's SCOTUS cucking on the issue, as this kind of timeframe is typical when a landmark ruling comes down and cases percolate up through the system, often getting it wrong or straight-up ignoring it (hi there New York).

So when the deputy goes back & punches that data into the system, prohibited person red flags by NICS for mental illness will show up.

Or an elderly veteran who needs a caregiver to handle their finances are classified as deficient to legally permit caregiving agencies those powers, and the adjudication will pop up if they're ever contacted by police & found to be armed. Both scenarios have happened & confiscations occurred, either immediately or at a later date.
