Finally read Jesse Singal's article about the coverage of Jamie Reed, the Washington University whistleblower. Journalists Are Exhibiting Far Too Much Credulousness Toward Jamie Reed’s Critics (archive)
What interests me is the coverage so far focuses on Jamie Reed's credibility, which is largely the line Tony has taken. Tony's "debunking" Substack was shoot-the-messenger type stuff, coupled with claims that, effectively, "this can't possibly be true because gender medicine is excellent".
Certainly at this point the core claims made by Jamie Reed are still unconfirmed; but those stepping forward to dismiss her have their own credibility problems.
Anyway, he's a quick round-up of Tony's involvement, minus a few tweets attacking Jamie Reed's lawyer.

Singal focusses on the use of two people as sources, Kim Hutton and Jess Jones. It turns out that Hutton is a co-founder of a local trans activist group, and was involved in establishing the gender clinic. Jones, meanwhile, appears to have greatly misrepresented both her experience and that of Jamie Reed.Jesse Singal said:In short, I simply don’t think that the journalists behind these stories did a careful job. If they were this sloppy on such basic facets of the story, why should we trust that they were any more careful on other parts of it that are harder for outsiders to verify?

Jamie Reed released a "whistleblower" story alleging misconduct by a Missouri trans clinic.
She tapped the leading anti-trans ADF associated attorney to rep her in a manufactured controversy.
I debunk it line by line.

Missouri Anti-trans "Whistleblower" Story Is A Manufactured Controversy - Point By Point
Jamie Reed's story is being pushed by the worst of the worst anti-trans voices on the internet. I dig point-by-point through her claims and show how they undermine her conclusions.erininthemorn.substack.com
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:00 PM UTC
Jamie Reed is represented by Vernadette Broyles. If this name sounds familiar, it's because she has been in charge of nearly every major anti-trans court case involving schools in the United States, and advised DeSantis on the creation of the Don't Say Gay law.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:01 PM UTC
We know that she worked with the Republican Attorney General of Missouri for over 2 weeks before releasing this story, and judging from how many right wing outlets seemed prepared to launch their stories the moment it dropped, this was a coordinated effort.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:01 PM UTC
Furthermore, given how long it took for her to come out with these allegations and given that she waited until the peak of anti-trans bill hearings, it's clear that this was politically motivated, and not motivated by a concern for patient safety.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:03 PM UTC
In her story, she misgenders every trans patient she refers to.
Her first live interview was given with the anti-trans organization Genspect, which if you follow me, you are intimately familiar with.
They advocate for banning trans care up to the age of 25.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:04 PM UTC
In her story, she alludes to multiple instances of kids showing up with "no history of gender dysphoria" and claims that their dysphoria is rapid onset.
This is disproven by research.
The more likely (and studied) scenario is, kids waited years to tell patients and clinicians.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:04 PM UTC
You can see the research against ROGD here:
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:05 PM UTC
She also claims that the trans youth she was seeing was caused by social contagion. This is also flatly contradicted by research.

New Study Examines The “Social Contagion” Hypothesis Of Transgender And Gender Diverse Identities - Fenway Health: Health Care Is A Right, Not A Privilege.
BOSTON, August 3, 2022—A study published today in Pediatrics, using a large national dataset of adolescents in the U.S., provided evidence against the notionfenwayhealth.org
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:06 PM UTC
She uses to evidence this claim the fact that some people came into the clinic as friends or in "clusters" from the same school.
This is likely because trans and queer people often come out to each other in social support groups. This is NOT new to trans people.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:07 PM UTC
She hints that many of her patients transgender identities may have been "caused by autism." This too is false. There is no evidence that autism causes gender dysphoria.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:08 PM UTC
Actually, some articles have noted that withholding care would increase depression among autistic trasn people.
being prevented from transitioning due to an autism diagnosis could “cause increased levels of depression and anxiety.”
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:11 PM UTC
In her article, she saw 1,000 patients. 0.03% of the population that her area serves.
So in reality, her "explosion" of transgender people was minsicule.
Over 2% of those under 25 are trans.
Her stuff only shows that a TINY sliver seek treatment under 18.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:13 PM UTC
Jamie places her own judgment over doctors who have been medically trained to handle this care. In one case, she states that "the science isn't settled."
Her source?
A Jesse Singal article.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:14 PM UTC
She presents two letters in her newsletter.
One of them actually absolves the clinic. It shows that they read a patient's psychology assessment and deliberated over not giving them a particular treatment, bicalutamide.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:15 PM UTC
See the letter here. Clearly the clinic WAS reading and responding to them:
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:17 PM UTC
She claims that actual goals for transition are negative side effects and speaks with disdain for trans people's genitals.
She for instance tries to use clitoral enlargement as a reason to STOP care, when trans men often desire this effect.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:18 PM UTC
Bizarrely, she states that the patients have no idea this will occur, but on the clinics OWN WEBSITE, it states "clitoral enlargement" as one of the "what to expects."
Any trans person knows this is on ALL of the forms.

Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:19 PM UTC
One particularly offensive part of her story is she claims that "recently we've seen more trans youth come into the clinic from mental crisis services"
And.. YEAH.
Have you SEEN what the environment looks like out there for trans people right now?
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:19 PM UTC
This increase in suicide attempts and mental crises are caused specifically by people like Jamie and articles and attacks on their care like this.
Erin Reed (@ErinInTheMorn) · Feb 10, 2023 · 8:21 PM UTC
I cover so much more of what she claims in the article. I don't let a single thing go unchallenged. Please support my work and spread widely.
This is a repeat of the anti-abortion playbook and project Veritas all over again.

I discussed with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the politically motivated hit job from far-right groups focused on the elimination of trans people from society in Missouri.
Jamie Reed's choice of attorneys, timing, and even her own accounts make that clear.

Choice of lawyers for whistleblower at St. Louis transgender clinic taints her motive, critics say

Erin Reed contends Jamie Reed’s allegations have several red flags in addition to her working with Broyles, including how she refers transgender boys and girls by their assigned sex at birth.
“The groups that she is working with, Vernadette Broyles; and the way that she presents her case; the way she even talks about transgender people — the way that she misgenders every single one that she talks about in her article — does not paint of picture of an individual with no ideological motivation and lack of bias,” Erin Reed said.

They interviewed two dozen parents at the St. Louis Transgender Clinic that directly contradict Jamie Reed.
Reed has tapped Vernadette Broyles to rep her, who has in the past compared LGBTQ+ advocates to cockroaches.
