I wanted to respond to Nick's take on Christianity earlier, but I had to stop laughing first.
Identifying as a heretical Christian. Very edgy. Much counter-culture. Not like those other Christians.
I bet no one understands/appreciates his "theology" too.

Spoiler: Brief Analysis

Nick thinks Christianity is important to society. Likely because aspects of Christian morality are a stabilizing agent in society that can counter some of the degenerate aspects that he also wants to indulge in that are inherently destructive. Nick probably doesn't want either one to go away because he wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Like most people Nick, seems to appreciate the humanitarian aspects of Christianity (or any other religion). In this way, he isn't worshipping God so much as he is ultimately worshipping humanity itself, as people are prone to do. This tracks with his hedonistic proclivities. God seems to be secondary in Nick's version of Christianity, since God is just holding Nick's place in heaven while he lives his best life.

That said, Christianity is likely just something that helps him sleep at night, and not any form of sincere faith.

Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and that included dying on the cross. This is why Jesus prophesied his death so many times in the gospels, and even asked the Father for the "cup of suffering" to pass from Him and concluding with "not my will but, yours" in Gethsemane. Sorry Nick, but God's ultimate lesson through Christ isn't that we can screw up as much as we want and He will forgive us. It was one of obedience.

Nick thinks that Jesus isn't the only way to salvation. See John 14:1-7 for Jesus' thoughts.

If Nick is claiming to be a heretic (and considering his professed beliefs and actions), then he can't pass judgement on the group he describes without being laughed at himself (not sincere in beliefs, "doing it for influence, clout and donations", etc.)

They also don't take dedicated family vacations - ever. (2 days at their bible camp and 2-3 days with his parents in FL don't count.) Call me a normie but that's VERY weird considering Nick's means - at least in my community. By the time my kids were teens we'd been on family vacations to the UK, France, Spain, and several tropical and ski trips. (Asia would have happened but for COVID.)

It's what most parents do for kids when there are means. We're supposed to broaden their horizons if we can. One would think that would be MORE important when the kids are homeschooled and in rural MN.

People who come from Nick's family money background (or have made excellent money themselves) are usually doing far more, and more interesting, vacations than that. Unless, of course, they're essentially uncultured, tacky rubes with sub-par education and failed late-in-life vocations who are drinking themselves to death. Otherwise, even if they unaccountably live in the sticks in the upper Midwest, they're going on quarterly international vacations to the easy Euro and island places, yearly "big" vacations like a safari or chartering a yacht somewhere, and weekending domestically in-between times. Given the one data point I've seen here, which is his parents giving 6 figures to the MN Zoo or some other similar thing, the only reasons he doesn't do that are a) his family knows he's a loser and thus holds the support to paying for his house and a solid but not eye-popping income, and/or b) he's too stupid or narrow to conceive of greater things.

I think you are putting a bit too much weight in his basic understanding of Christianity. I honestly believe the man never read the Bible or even attended Sunday school. I don't know how mass is held in protestant churches, especially the non denominational mumbo jumbo he went with. But if they did bother reading the Bible there he certainly didn't pay attention. His entire theological understanding is clearly acquired through nothing more than cultural osmosis. And his interpretation is what I expect from an agnostic trying to ingratiate himself to Christians. It puts me back in high school with such wisdom as "Like I'm not into this Church stuff man but I think like Jesus was cool."
