Checking out that mike vid, and I have heard bits and pieces of his contributions before. But he really was the brainchild. the Nerd Making of ep was one of my faves but knowing it was probably BS saddens me.

This is why it honestly wouldn't be bad for James to do Patreon - he could release things he's passionate about early there that he knows won't get traction on YouTube and probably earn more money from it, plus the change from YouTube views at a later date. Release behind the scenes and maybe some streams as exclusive content et voila! But he's probably too terminally lazy / unwilling to learn to actually do it.
he already has a patreon, at least the YT equivalent...and the perks are ass. You think an actual patreon would light a fire under his ass? Nah.

Kieran seems like a pretty ok guy to me. I legit don’t understand why people hate/make fun of him so much. I think he stuck with the job despite the shitty pay because he was just excited to be working on AVGN and the related projects. Obviously he found out being internet famous is not all what it’s cracked up to be and eventually quit when he realized he wasn’t getting anything out of it. As for not having a proper computer he probably just got used to using the computers at SW for all of his shit. It’s easy to take that stuff for granted when you’re in the moment.

He fed the trolls. It's as simple as that. Now, when a troll impersonated his dead father that's fucked up. But everything else was his fault. The dude even went to Reddit and started reporting Truther's with the suicide bullshit to get their accounts flagged.

It's like dude, just walk away. Stop giving them reasons to hate you.

He completely wanted the bait and he fell for it.

Null, I hope you've seen the AVGN Movie. It's horrible, but you need to see it to appreciate how James describes making it in the book. He makes a bizarre statement that it's a film about xenophobia, which literally no one but him ever picked up on. He also moved out to California to film it in Hollywood, but was somehow surprised at how expensive that was.
I thought it was funny when it came out but looking back it really wasn’t that great.

Mike recently did a long talk about AVGN in one of his streams, he rambles a lot but it's pretty interesting to hear him talk about behind the scenes stuff, it really shows how passionate James used to be about it.

(I'm mentally challanged and don't know how to timestamp, it starts @3:41:05)

Sorry for the double post but speaking of Mike and behind the scenes he returned as Bugs Bunny on the recent Christmas AVGN episode but he wasn’t credited. Pretty sus.

Can someone please download a copy of the stream or at least clip the relevant parts? I'm getting an error 5000.

This is supposed to be a sub-only VoD but Twitch's interface is total shit so it shows that error instead. If you look at the URL for the .m3u8 that responds with a status code of 403 you get a hint at what's going on.

Code:
https://usher.ttvnw.net/vod/1758757929.m3u8?acmb=e30%3D&allow_source=true&p=2056880&play_session_id=dc095c508ff5b859a282a10ffcae15db&player_backend=mediaplayer&playlist_include_framerate=true&reassignments_supported=true&sig=26fbada720d319d80fe042ae0badd33afb4afaf8&supported_codecs=avc1&token=%7B%22authorization%22%3A%7B%22forbidden%22%3Afalse%2C%22reason%22%3A%22%22%7D%2C%22chansub%22%3A%7B%22restricted_bitrates%22%3A%5B%22160p30%22%2C%22360p30%22%2C%22480p30%22%2C%22720p60%22%2C%22audio_only%22%2C%22chunked%22%5D%7D%2C%22device_id%22%3A%22<removed>%22%2C%22expires%22%3A1678646609%2C%22https_required%22%3Atrue%2C%22privileged%22%3Afalse%2C%22user_id%22%3Anull%2C%22version%22%3A2%2C%22vod_id%22%3A1758757929%7D&cdm=wv&player_version=1.18.0

When you decode the URL and look at the token parameter, you get this JSON:
JSON:
{
  "authorization":{
    "forbidden":false,
    "reason":""
  },
  "chansub":{
    "restricted_bitrates":[
      "160p30",
      "360p30",
      "480p30",
      "720p60",
      "audio_only",
      "chunked"
    ]
  },
  "device_id":<removed>,
  "expires":1678646609,
  "https_required":true,
  "privileged":false,
  "user_id":null,
  "version":2,
  "vod_id":1758757929
}

It appears it's possible to set restricted_bitrates to all available versions of the VoD. This confuses Twitch.

But not to worry! People have figured out a way to get sub-only VoDs without paying!

If you download this Chrome extension from GitHub the video will begin working in your browser. From there you can grab the unprotected .m3u8 and throw it into yt-dlp.

To save you the hassle, here's the full 9+ GB VoD on Mega. It's slightly higher quality than Smacky's archive above, and streamable too.

To be fair James intended on J&MM to return, but Mike decided to just say fuck it cause the Twitch streams were more fun.
I have 0 clue why they did not embrace Twitch.
Even Doug Walker now plays shit on Twitch. To supplement the income. J&MM live, they could have pulled in a new audience of them raging over bad games on Twitch as a duo on Mondays have streams with just Mike or James. I think James's biggest sin, is not thinking about the future. Thinking youtube would stay the same and he would be the king of internet reviewers for all time.

That's a great idea, i'm sure Mike would be down. The only problem is James' lack of time, I remember Mike mentioned (during the later years of J&MM) that Jimbo only had 2 or 3 hours a month to record the monday videos

James is too avant Garde for streaming. Remember when he tried to LARP as some sort of bald gay wizard while playing The Immortal? That’s what he’d rather do. James also sucks as video games and wouldn’t be able to keep a live audience.

There’s also the muh time and muh kids constraint.

I believe Mike said on one stream that he apparently tried to get James set up for streaming but James just didn't want to do it.

Case and point this video of James playing Metroid solo.
This might be one of the first instances where I realized how integral Mike was in helping James make entertaining videos.

Yea the no time meme.
I just have to wonder what he is doing the rest of his week. 2 kids and a wife should not be such a time sink he makes it out to be. Unless he has another job, that he has not mentioned and the AVGN stuff is done as a side hustle now.
Even when no time. Going on cam with Mike for 1 hour i would be willing to estimate he would have at least a $1000 thrown at him in donations. I would transition away from the pre recorded videos slowly and bring the people who like you over to twitch.
Did they ever get round to playing that notorious Tekeshi's Challenge game on J&MM? Him and Mike could make a fortune on that game alone on Twitch.

That's a different stream, even though he's wearing the same shirt. Mine is beginning to end with a runtime of 1:56:17 and max quality. You can also compare the ending with the clip posted here earlier and it's not there, he deleted the VOD.

After the autobiography, him being shit at time management makes so much sense now. This is the same dumbass who chose to wait for hours outside (his school computer lab iirc) before realizing that it was like closed or something along those lines

Lets be real. If you only had to work 3 hours a week and still be comfortable, you'd do it too. Doesn't not make him a lazy hack however.
