Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Disney bringing Turning Red to the table tells you everything you need to know about the current state of the company. Aside from the weird shit it's just plain bland, which is even worse than being terrible. It may not be tomorrow, next year, or even the next decade until they go under but the writing is on the wall. All they produce now are remakes and pointless sequels. Any new IPs are forgettable not only because they aren't pre-established franchises but also because they're just as if not more forgettable than the remakes.

This clip was posted in the Disney adults thread and even though it's for copyright reasons it's kind of ironic because of how true it really is. If you asked Gen Z or even Millennials what the most iconic cartoon character is they'll likely say Minions and Spongebob. Mickey is only iconic to the older generations.
In a world where yellow mascots such as SpongeBob, Pikachu, Simpsons and Minions are the most popular mascots for zoomers (and also millennials, in the case of the first three), this isn't a surprise. At least the two still grew up with Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

Was Turning Red really last year? It feels like it came out at least 2 years ago but here we are...
For me it's kinda the opposite. I'm surprised it's already been a year since Turning (the plane around) Red dropped. Really only felt like it came out last summer or so.

I'd argue them submitting Wreck It Ralph 2 was a sign of the absolute state of the company: Outdated internet culture/memes, ignorance of what came before them (which was really good), IP dick swinging that adds nothing to the story, girl power that makes the girls in question look like spoiled bratty bitches and once again, deserving to lose to a superior movie. Turning Red is just a continuation. Not the beginning. And it's twice as embarrassing given it had Pixar's name on it too. Bigger the beast, harder the fall. 🚬

Someone in the 2010s thread said it best. Things have gotten so crazy, not helped by the trump/Biden years, blm, the covid pandemic, and Russia. That the tail end of the 2010s just flew right by and now time itself is rushing by just to get all the crazy over and done with sooner and sooner.
I can see that. I just hope it slows down soon enough for me to enjoy big budget animation again. I can only get my fix from old media for so long.

It was originally set to be released in theatres, but Disney thought at the last minute that it would be released in most countries (including US and Canada) to Disney+ on its scheduled March 11, 2022 date, and they've also decided not to release it in Russian theatres following the Ukraine situation.

Still, they should've delayed to animate the 9/11 attacks during the climax.

All they needed to do was stick in that deleted Lilo and Stitch footage.
And would've worked like this

There was a time when some live-action movies was shown in tv, there was some additional scenes who was filmed for tv release like for example, that scene from the movie Earthquake. Maybe that scene was an additional scene filmed for the tv release of Son of the Mask.
I'm reminded of the lost world jurassic park. When it aired on TV two deleted scenes where added back in to pad out network TV broadcast time. And ironically said deleted scenes actually made the one note "villains"of that movie actually sympathetic. But this ain't the jurassic thread so I'd better not Ohio train this thread.

Throwback toons on youtube for lesser known animated hits.

I remember that. Late 1990s was when I started turning on Western Animation in part because I hated the fuck ugly art styles, but I recall Jumanji's stories actually being gripping despite the art. More than once I thought of getting the Complete Series DVD I sometimes see floating around.

For that matter, does anyone else have a few less-talked-about 80s/90s cartoons they'd like to share? Spring always gets me in the mood for them but I feel like I've seen all the big-name stuff like He-Man and Thundercats. (Then again, as my post in a different topic indicates... if it exists, I've probably heard of it. Still will be nice to jog some memories.)

Late to the hat posting, but I can't believe you motherfuckers didn't post Sir Topham Hatt. Now you've made him very cross.

The early 2000s were weird as fuck, man.

We joke, but Turning Red actually did have a cut scene of Mei Mei getting on a plane.
I'm starting to believe E;R actually works in the industry lol
