I think IRL social skills have collapsed for a lot of people.

The 40-year-old wine moms who got groped in 2003 are not the ones cutting off the sex spigot, it's the late millennials and zoomers who are spending their high school and college years without going on a single date ever, much less the kind of casual dating culture that previous generations enjoyed. Like not even the "cock carousel" incel fantasy, but like almost everyone I know dated a handful of people in school. Not the young people nowadays.

IRL socialization requires the kind of nuance, empathy, and ability to read non verbal cues that online socialization lacks.

When they're on discord or Twitter or TikTok they're used to having their own beliefs and values reconfirmed to them. They quite literally have not learned how to get along with people they disagree with, or to handle the emotional discomfort that comes with disagreeing with someone, even over something simple.

It's not just online or the algorithm though, they've also been raised to be indoor kids. I'll put some soap box sperging in the spoiler below, before this post gets too long:

Kids need to play outside more with other children their own age, starting from a young age. The way I see it, that's quite literally the easiest solution to this problem. When kids play with each other they're unconsciously learning all kinds of rules about socialization, including how to get along with people they really like but might disagree with sometimes. And learning how to do that at a young age will help them when they have to get along with people who disagree with them who they don't like. Play is an important social and emotional wellness tool that is seen all over the animal kingdom, and it serves a similar purpose of socialization and building skills needed as a adult. A puppy that is raised in its own without other puppies will likely go on to develop behavioral issues, including biting other dogs too hard during play because the dog never learned how to hold back when playing as a puppy. Lack of social play from a young age causes some of the social damage that I think we're seeing today. I'm not sure what can be done for the current generation. But I believe going forward in the future if we let kids play outside more, if nothing else, that'll be a step in the right direction of creating emotionally healthy well rounded kids who can handle the real world. ....Shit, I really did not realize how impassioned I was about this topic until I went and wrote it all out.

I can't find it but I once saw this screenshot of a Tumblr post about someone talking about how they're more comfortable looking at gay porn/pairings because straight porn/pairings are objectifying towards women. I think that this is what this person is experiencing, except they've come to the conclusion that they feel disconnected from over sexualized women not because they're a human woman with feelings, but because they're not a woman. If that is the case, then what a terrifying and saddening conclusion to come to.

Just this sample of posts alone illustrates some of the biggest disconnects I have with transgender people, in general. Taking into account all of the changes (social, physical, mental, etc.) one would have difficulty adjusting to after transitioning, I don't understand why someone would ever want to go through with it in the first place. At the same time, like the vast majority of what is shown in this thread, these all seem like the sort of people who don't really think things through and consider consequences before making a decision.

I don't get it. Unlike with most things I want to observe, I don't really think I want to.
