In regards to the "man flu". I'm sure the whole an excuse to be weak thing plays a part but last time I looked into the phenomenon there were a few studies that talked about the protective effects estrogen plays in symptom severity of respiratory viruses. They were trying to find out if there was a subjective or objective difference between genders when it comes to colds and flus. They injected estrogen into sick animals and found reduced Inflammation and an improvement in symptoms. I don't know if it's been done in humans. It's been a while since I looked into it so maybe it's all been disproved. I guess if you want to go down a rabbit hole and look into it then search "protective effects of estrogen on respiratory viruses" and go from there

Statistically, younger women are something like twice as likely as men/older people to self injure, which tends to be practically a requirement to keep getting newer/more invasive treatments in the munchiverse (that can then be shared to Instagram for many an asspat and handouts). I'd guess whatever psychological issues that causes that is linked to why women tend to be much more likely to have munchausen as well. It's sort of ties in anorexia too, since that is also definitely a form of self injury in my mind. But this is all armchair psychology, so take it with a grain of salt.

I figure the underlying motivation behind this behavior is broadly the same in either sex, that they don't feel like their mental illness will get them the kind of "poor you" attention they want, so they blow up the physical ways their mental illness makes them feel like shit to farm that sympathy.

I kinda agree. I think it comes back to reassurance that a social circle cares about them. Isolation/rejection/apathy on the part of your group is really dangerous in a social species like ours.

I think it might come down to a need to protect vs. be protected.

When it comes to self harm, I think BPD. There's a big difference between the sexes there too. Boys get abandoned, abused, neglected, molested, etc. But the dysfunctional behavior turns out differently. Going out and instigating physical fights/insane risk taking as a way to reassure themselves they can take care of themselves. Whereas (from the outside) it looks like women with BPD have a stronger drive to make sure other people will be there for them.

Traits we associate with masculinity/manhood have powerful, shared internal drivers. Being really sick prevents you from doing the things that men derive wellness from. Being useless is psychologically devastating for men (look at the suicide/addiction rates post disability). Not being strong/providing means that you can't protect your family/friends. That's deeply distressing to most men.

The men I know who malinger/I suspect of light munching all have some pretty crippling mental health issues that keep them from fulfilling their masculine obligations (contribute/protect/provide), or desires (love, fatherhood, respect). The men who have physical issues might overplay them, because they don't feel they justify the degree to which they can't do those things. Women have a need for those things too, just with a different priority and way.

We see that with some of the girls who turn to hardcore munching after failure to launch. It just seems to be a matter of degrees. Why women appear to take it further, IDK. I psuedoscientifically suspect that the reason has to do with motherhood (both internally and socially) - some women get totally debilitated by dizziness, vomiting, and other stuff the entire time their pregnant. Late pregnancy/labor/birthing are physically disabling, and it looks like it takes a couple of days to recover at minimum. So women might be internally more accepting/less distressed, and more socially supported.

Women self harm more because they are more likely to turn their anger towards themselves. men on the other hand often turn their anger toward others (this doesn’t have to be a person, it can be a thing that they can destroy to act out the anger).
Edit: added parentheses

There's a documentary show on Netflix called "Afflicted" that follows a bunch of hysterical munchies around to all their dumb woo treatments for their made up diseases. Most of them are women, but there are two men on there and they are FUCKING DOOZIES.

just really, really like the hospital because it gives them a way to avoid responsibility to the point they can just shit the bed and some poor nurse will be forced to clean them up and pay "positive" attention to them while they do it.
Chelsea Lawrence moment.

You guys have made some very good points, I'm glad that my post sparked up some meaningful conversation. Men definitely have less to gain from online munchie behavior as they feel it hurts their ego. Men most certainly act out in attention grabbing ways (fighting/ dangerous stunts) in order to fulfill their ego, whereas women feel they have less room for that kind of behavior, so they resort to seeking protection.

I also feel like opioids and anxiolytic drugs have a big part to play in the female munchie space. Men make up the majority of opioid and benzo dealers, and I'm sure that many women feel threatened partaking in buying from potentially dangerous men. This could explain why so many more feminine men/gay men/mtfs partake in munching.

May be late and slight pl but I have a family member with diagnosed epilepsy (medicated) and developed PNES on top of that, brought on by stress. After their PNES seizure, they're in a similar state to their epileptic seizures. They need a few days to recover from both types and most certainly not faking. (Has had epilepsy for over 30 years and doesn't enjoy it in the slightest).
Just putting that out there. I definitely believe these people are faking, however.
Somatization is a bitch.

I'm not denying your observations, but it is true that there's no physiological mechanism for a postictal state in PNES. If there's no ictus, there cannot be a post-ictus. Of course, the brain is very weird and can convince a person of all kinds of things that objectively cannot be true.

If what Paige’s former friend said is to be believed, Paige is alive (to the surprise of no one)

I find interesting that this fatfrog account (presumed to be Paige, and it’s got no activity) is commenting on all her videos about their drama behaving very Paige-esque. I SS a few others, but honestly it’s just melodramtic comments meant to garner sympathy for Paige and besmirch her former friend. Boring, but does lend credibility it’s Paige.

Paige is somehow as fascinating as she is boring, and I partially regret spending any time looking in to it.

I know exactly what you mean. Reading about her for the first time was interesting, especially all the forum posts from her mom. But on an average day she's not that entertaining. All she ever does is rip out her tubes and rub shit in her wounds and then rip out her tubes again.

The Claw was a fun little saga, though.

I want to stress that there was a lot of behind the scenes work by someone else helping me dig and pick apart the layers of bullshit. If everyone who has enjoyed this could wave in the direction of Norway or say something nice in Norwegian to acknowledge the team effort here that would be lovely.

Heather updates:

Last Saturday she posted about the plans to wean her from TPN back to tube feeds and cried about having no money or insurance. A stranger paid off her balance with home health so she can get supplies whenever she leaves the hospital. Then on Sunday came more bitching about the hospital food, requesting delivery of snacks and magazines.

I'm willing to bet she's being picky and difficult and the surgeon told her not to count on going home soon if she keeps it up.

On Monday, some shit went DOWN. It started with a typical health update + begpost + crying selfie.

A group member deigned to question Heather's financial situation, and a loyal member came to her defense.

Then earlier today, apparently someone named Helen Riddle left comments that are no longer visible. I'd love to know what she said, apparently it was highly offensive. Several minions and suckers came to Heather's defense. She herself wrote a couple of screeds and then tried to guilt trip Helen about mEnTaL hEaLtH and "what if I was already having a panic attack today?" lmfao. Helen is no longer a member of the group.
Also suddenly she doesn't want to name actress and singer Jodi Benson, voice of lead role Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid (1989) as the generous benefactor who paid for her Disney World vacation? That's interesting.

When my grandmother spent her last couple days in the hospital dying of metastatic melanoma, I'm pretty sure she would have pulled at any necklace and been uncomfortable. She did normally like jewelry. But no one that's dying cares anymore.
We used Biotene gel in her mouth and lip balm to help with the dryness. When you are truly dying, water and food will actually hurt you bc your body can no longer absorb it anymore. She wouldn't be begging for snacks. You naturally have less hunger when you are terminal:
Early Stage of Dying:
In the early stage of dying, a patient will begin eating and drinking markedly less. This period can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks.

What You Will See:
The first sign of this stage of dying will be a noticeable drop in interest in food. For many patients, eating becomes more of a burden than a joy at this point. They may also occasionally choke on their fluids and will start to feel full rather quickly.

This tattoo artist is an angy baby and needs to take his Risperidone and calm down. Does he want to fuck her or something? Is Ryan getting cucked?

That whole “some people have no family support and have chosen families, mine is this group…. by the way invite everyone you know and they’ll be approved, no questions asked” weirds me out, I thought the concept of chosen family was when you’re dealt a shit hand and a couple of close friends become family in the way your family of origin couldn’t.

Heather’s group shames out anyone who asks questions, it reinforces her bullshit, and she wants an influx of new strangers to see if anyone fits into this circle of enabling Heather. The ones who don’t will get vilified until they leave.

It sounds a lot more like a cult than a chosen “family.”

Well well well, thats certainly interesting. I thought one day maybe you might pop up. If you can verify your identity I'm happy to email. I don't voice chat too doxy. Tbh I'm not truly invested in Drewy going forward. We document and move on. She has by and large stopped telling lies on the internet, she's changed her hashtags to only claim conditions she actually has which is an unusual result for one of these girls. It would probably be more cathartic for you than me. I'm certainly gratified to hear we got most of it right. You never really know for sure when you're inferring stuff from someone's old social media and I do think she has *something* up with that leg (not paralysis).
If it is you, (and that post is old so I have no reason to believe a random person is necroing the thread) I hope you're doing better now dude. I hope you didn't feel too badly slandered and I really did feel bad posting you as collateral damage but at the same time, when we found this story we kinda wanted to avenge you too!

Just change your facebook picture from that stupid drawing clara did, it's weird you're still using it.
Hope your feeling better guy, and that your dating life is less complicated.

Thanks! Just message me on Reddit and if I respond it should be proof enough lol. Or I'll send photos.

Drewy does have paralysis on their right leg and right arm. Mostly recovered arm and their leg was still weak enough to not stand, like after your leg falls asleep.
It wasn't a stroke, it was an EDS complication that's actually pretty common, pinched spinal cord which is causing the paralysis. Happened on the way back from a very long tour of a NASA lab. Pearl was being trained to alert to sounds. Drewy was diagnosed with pots, like a lot of people with eds, and pearl would know before I did when drewy was going to pass out.

However, drewys only had a handful of seizures and I think pearls alerts may have been a coincidence. Angel (sirspacerevere) was an awful person from the start, and he is selfish and inconsiderate from the start. He's also kind of actually crazy. I think he's the one who convinced drewy to leave.
Drewy called the police while I was at work, made a scene in front of roommates, and then filed a domestic violence restraining order. They told my roommate that I was sexually abusing them, but when he probed the answer was "Avery wants to do sexual things with me" which... Yes I did say that, but it's not abuse to bring it up...

I'm a few hours and a check ride away from getting my pilot's license now. I qualify for commercial NORDO if I continue training but will be limited to banner towing, crop dusting, etc. (not ATP, and no passengers).

I'm still legally married and drewy has ghosted me, and they refuse to use a middle man to exchange documents either.

Also drewy was genuinely convinced in some of these problems. They were actually psychotic. They would blame me for missing things until we put a camera in the room, then when they missed something in front of their eyes, I'll pick it up and they think I pulled a trick. The paralysis and the other brain issues started together so doctors were thinking it was a stroke at first and tired to do imaging but they couldn't hold still to get a picture.

I think that after Drewy realized the guy they ran off (sirspacerevere) is just more crazy then they are, they came down from their psycho state and realized that they are just crazy.

They legit wasn't trying to lie to people, they just believed it themselves. I would keep my mouth shut to keep the peace, but they would yell at doctor's for not listening, refuse tests the doctors actually wanted to do, etc. Like, the doctor said that they probably only had gastroperesis as a short to medium term symptom of a medication and that it would resolve with time. They'd vomit a lot but after a while it stopped but they still seemed to think they still had gastroperesis

Also they're definitely autistic. Perfect photography memory (I've tested) and they are fluent in multiple languages. Duolinguo is not representative of that but, I've heard and got lost following conversations with a French speaking stranger, etc.

Drewy is crazy, and very smart, and deaf autistic and paralyzed.

Also we tried to sue the doctor but drewy was uncooperative and preferred to slander online. You can verify this yourself, but the lawyer we talked to said you only have 6 months to file a lawsuit in California to be within medical malpractice statute of limitations. We're in California at the time. So that's probably why.
