Dude it was the 60's of course it's going to be sexist by today's standards. But that episode, as stupid as it is, has William Shatner dialing up the ham to 11. He's not just chewing the scenery he's making a meal of it.

Love how she only sticks to the 3rd season of OST when that was considered the worst of it. God forbid she give the series a chance and watch if from the start to see how much it changed in that season. What's next, is she going to tell us how weird voyager's threshold is? WOW GUYS THEY TURNED IN TO SALAMANDERS SO WHACKY!! DERPY DO!! Really she does this with everything she talks about even shows she clams to love. I genuinely wonder what she actually likes to watch anything without being snarky.

Funny enough I just watched that episode not too long ago with my husband. I had never seen it before that day and hated it so much I asked if we could turn it off. It was so dumb compared to previous episodes.

She should really do a whole series again like Charmed Reviews. There is a lot of dumb shows from TGIF she can take us through, like the teen angel sitcom. Allison is able to do good work, but she needs to stop being a social justice inquisitor. Or just turn it to anti-trans.

She does it because Star Trek videos get her good views for her channel. She's going to keep making videos because she gets good money from her Patrons per video. The only way she'll stop doing this is she 100% can't make a living from this and has to get a job. Even then she'll probably end up like Dena Natali doing livestreams reacting to her old videos to ebeg for rent money.

That's why she never went anywhere. She makes snarky commentary videos that are watchable but nothing special. The only times she gets higher view counts is when she talks about something popular (Star Trek) or the algorithm gives her a lucky break like with the Modelland video and the video about the Scott Backula sitcom. The only thing interesting about her is the Drama she has caused and has taken part in and that's it. Only Marzgurl is worse in that regard with #KickVic being a bigger clusterfuck than #ChangeTheChannel and also Marzgurl is boring and nobody really cares about her videos and livestreams unless it's to make fun of her ebegging. At least people liked Allison's old videos. You can't even say that about Marzgurl.

I'm watching Voyager 4.14 - Message in a Bottle. Lupa really should've done a feature on the EMH mk II being Andy Dick. In universe, the Andy Dick hologram was preferred over Robert Picardo hologram. It's like when everyone made fun of Clippy, but then Clippy 2.0 was a cluster of STDs. He even asks the Doctor to install his sexual subroutines.

Star Trek was revolutionary for the time. And let's not forget it's the first show to have an interracial kiss on TV. Gene was pretty progressive for the time.

I've read a very negative biography of Roddenberry, and I was pleasantly surprised that the author agreed, in a good way. Roddenberry apparently reached out to NBC's first black executive and went out of his way to work with him, at a time when this really wasn't popular. Like Charlton Heston, he was doing this when there was some career risk involved.

The man might be a complete asshole for all I know but it's things like this that show he wasn't all bad.

Back in the 60's you still had "colored only" drinking fountains. And people were worried that William Shatner kissing Nichelle Nichols on screen would mean they'd lose a ton of viewers but Gene had a vision of the future where concepts like black or white didn't exist anymore and good for him staying the course.

The problem that people like Allison have is that they always look at media through a modern lens, They're not going to think it's a big deal to see a black woman as a main character of a show that's not a maid or servant, or to see a black admiral or scientist. Back then it was unheard of. Not only is Uhura black she's from Kenya, she had depth beyond just token black woman that's more them modern woke shit can say today. OST was a trailblazer for that.

And the "sexism" of the short dress uniforms, in the 60s that was empowering for women, that was feminism. Yeah Roddenberry was a bit weird with sex even for the 60s (Just look up his idea for the ferengi) but he really did have a vision for the future where all cultures got along. Sorry for sperging I just finished watching OST with husband and it's still fresh in my mind.

The mini-skirt was invented not that long before and, as you say, it was a feminist statement. Much like today the idea is for women to wear what they want is a feminist statement. But no, showing off too much leg is sexist according to Granny Lupa. Of course nobody wants to see her legs which is why she feels every woman needs to cover up.

You can't look at history through a modern lens without considering the time it came from.
