Oh god he even called the trooning out story line "A good egg"

Edit: Fuck you you made me look at this.
This nigga went full troon.

"This is a more accutate representation" ....yeah right.

Also he rebooted the comic with the kid trooned out and the shapeshifter character suddenly going from being 100% wanting to bone down with her(its?) life-long friend Gastro's father to being in lesbians with Phobia.

Jesus christ. Webcomics were a mistake.

Gastro has always been trans (x). We have always been at war with Eastasia.

You must have misremembered it going like this (x), he definitely for real said that he wanted to be a girl FIVE TIMES!!
Granted, Mania has some memory problems, but Gastro goes right along with it so it feels like he's trying to rewrite the history. I'm bummed how trooning out just ruins everything. I actually think that the comic is otherwise just as good as it was pre-troonout (full disclosure, I hadn't read it in a decade until this morning), but this kind of gaslighting pisses me off so much that it makes it hard to enjoy anything else in it.

Is it just me or the old one (coloured orange) is really artistically much better than the newer one? The newer one looks like CalArts style to me.

If anyone cares, while I was checking other bronze age webcomics, Octopus Pie published a 2nd epilog this past fall. I never got into that, I found the way plot threads were introduced and dropped infuriating, but figured I'd mention.

Jesus christ. Trooning out, not even once.
Also that "Good Egg" thing is basically PG sissy fetish, down to "I wish all the guys would want to fuck me, but they won't because they aren't gay".

OG Run Gastrophobia was ok for a bronze-age webcomic. Dave always a had bit of libbrain, but the early part of the comic other than the girls love shit naturally came in from Phobia being an Amazon (in fact he was usually poking in both directions for a while as Phobia was being exiled for being an Amazon who was raising her son and had maintained a relationship with the father for a while). He stopped hiding his powerlevel and the updates fell off and I mainly dropped it for that reason.

I read some of the pre-trooning strips to see if he boiled the frog at all. Nope - Shapeshifter was getting married to Klepto, wanted to be best friends with Phobia (which was awkward because Phobia was Klepto's ex and she still had lingering feelings for him [and vice versa]) and then boom, hard jerk of the wheel wehre Gastro toons out despite never having expressed a desire before and the shape shifter instantly becomes a lesbian.
The author commentary on that old strips is really revealing; the shapeshifter was never anything but 100% in love with Klepto (Gastro's father) to the point of near obsession, and never anything more than friends with Phobia, but of course the trooning has Dave retconning that in his own head. "ha ha I can't believe I ever had these characters be platonic clearly it was lesbians all the way. By the way I'm a girl now hit up ladies. Dudes you're allowed to simp but I'm only into other ladies like me, and doing lady things with them like getting cute socks and talking about how disgusting MEN are"

Is it just me or the old one (coloured orange) is really artistically much better than the newer one? The newer one looks like CalArts style to me.
Most troons artistically regress when trooning out. Firstly because art is secondary to trooning out, second because now that they are troons they get nothing but asspats and the visuals are second to the message of "I'M A TROON LOOK AT ME I'M A REAL LADY NOW I AM A GIRL AND ITS BIGOTTED TO SAY I AM NO" so they simplify their style to make it easier to crank them out.
They also stop hanging around with other talented artists and hang out with Troons/Troon orbiters, so they stop learning.

Self improvement is abilist, shit lord.

Decided to look at Questionable Content, which I used to read, and it looks like Marten, the main character, is moving away and leaving the comic to live with his dick girl. I abandoned the strip when it became all about robot girls lezzing out together and it sounds like nothing has changed since then.

I think Jeph just wants to stop doing QC and move onto something else, which is understandable considering he's been doing this for twenty years and 5000 pages, but after his Angel Grove comic failed (If you're going to do a webcomic that works better for print, you need to draw it like the genre and post more than two pages a week) he just changed QC into it and made it suck... worse than it used to.

Oh, and of course, the news that the protagonist is leaving is brushed over pretty quickly.

So just writing out his self-insert MC to go be a faggot with a tranny in another city. Handstab's Trooning Out saga coming when?
Lol J/k that faggot was never a man, so he can't stop being one.

Also gets early 75% of comic dedicated to the Ideal Dream Gril dealing with the emotional aftermath of her best friend and unresolved porcupine-meat crush leaving forever.
This could be the new loss if anyone gave a shit.

Jacques isn't gonna end it, at least he said so on the site. He's just gonna switch between whacky queer robot hijinx in Canuckistan to whacky queer robot hijinx in Massholeistan.
I wonder if I'm ever gonna kick the habit of reading this shit...

I went pretty much cold turkey on that one after he fucked the tranny. I cold-turkeyed on Something Positive during the end of the year break a long while back - I don't even remember exactly why, just the comic had been sliding into shit and updates were inconsistent. Apparently this was the right move because they had Davan come out as bi or some fagshit.

Has anyone mentioned US Angel Corps yet? It's not the skimpy outfits that bother me, but for a series about highly-trained secret agents, they sure get killed in the most repulsive ways possible sometimes due to their own incompetence. Honestly, Al Bundy would find this series sexist and degrading to women.

Oldie but goldie. Didn't the dude who draw it spend most of his time drawing the most boring, milquetoast "gamer in college with sexy girls" comic in the world?

Pibgorn: This one got off to an ok start (though I wondered what Drusilla and Pibgorn saw in an uptight and rather dull man like Geoff) where it tried to be intellectual and failed. There are a few problems with it...

  • Good Ideas, Poor Execution: Brooke McEldowney (the creator), especially in the comic's earlier days had some interesting concepts for plots, but the problem is that he admits that he doesn't really plan out his stories and this hurts him because he has plot points that are ignored or could've been cut out, some of the later stuff has no plot and is just a series of events, or things with potential are ignored. He had a cute idea of doing jazz age versions of Shakespeare's work with his characters playing the cast, but he misses the point of Romeo and Juliette by making Romeo a clumsy wuss who literally throws a fit on the floor and Juliette into "femme fatale" who grinds her crotch against the windowsill during the most romantic scene in the original play.
  • Spank Fodder: This happens more as the series progresses (same thing as it's sister comic, 9 Chickweed Lane) to the point that it takes over the lack of plot. In "Djinn of It" and "A Brunch With Death", you can play guess Brooke's fetish.
  • The Dialogue: Big words, overly wordy dialogue and it tries too hard to be intellectual. Or in the case of Nat Bustard, he wants to sound like a 1940s detective novel.

Chugworth academy.

Jesus christ that one.
I'm not opposed to violence/blood etc but you can tell this dude was furiously beating one out while drawing it.
