The short answer: Disney wokeism strikes again.

The longer answer: I'm way too tired to go look up an article about this (I'm sure you can find one or two if you search yourself, I found out about it in a YouTube video of all places) but basically some executives are kinda butthurt about Jessica Rabbit's role in the movie as part faux femme fatale and part damsel in distress (Nevermind that second bit only happens for a few minutes in the climax alongside her husband). So, since all women must be Strong Women™, she's now a private detective, even though that makes no damn sense and that's not how toons generally behave in that movie's universe.

Thank heaven for online piracy and video-sharing sites or we would lose all of our media histories.

God dammit I actually really like Jessica because she's a strong woman without being a Strong Woman. I really like that she's a complicated person, she looks sexy, but her very existence is a reminder not to judge people by how they look. She genuinely loves her husband and it's a clear motivation for her throughout the film.

Modern media really has a hard-on for a specific type of female character, but it's all the same character. If I asked you to do the Plinkett Test on any female Marvel character, could you even tell them apart?

Test criteria: Describe a character without mentioning their:

1. Appearance
2. Skills
3. Plot relevance
4. Relationships

I can do that for Jessica Rabbit (Loyal, confident, unintentionally funny). I can't do it for Captain Marvel ("Cocky" maybe, but that's just Marvel writing, every character is like that at some point in those films).
