Is there a quantifiable correlation between the rise of easily accessible pornographic material and the evaporation of the american serial killer phenomenon? I'm aware that serial killing still happens but seems to have declined?
According to who you believe (basically the FBI, retired FBI, or serial killer addicted winemoms/wierdos online) there are anywhere from 60 to 300 or more active serial killers in the US at any given time. Basically the FBI gave up hunting serial killers with anything but a token effort as soon as the patriot act went into effect, and diverted all resources to the much more profitable (and easier to produce/fake results) terrorist hunting gig. So SK hunting got devolved back down to state/local LE guys who are mostly too retarded to even catch the dumb ones (and are also logistically and jurisdictionally hampered due to the nature of SKs). I mean just the big ones still going are the LISK and both the Texas and Pacific NW corridor killers (who are probably both multiples, possibly acting in conjunction, possibly just sharing terrirtory). And the body counts on those are freaking ridiculous. But nobody gives a shit, because it's not like there's a shortage of hookers or homeless anywhere, so no one is all up in LEs face about it (which is the biggest driver for investigations...well, second biggest, I guess, after making your career on it).
I mean the FBI stat is like 1% of murders are from serial killers, which is still over 150 per year (or well over 200 per year since 2020, but the huge murder spikes in 2020-2023 are wierd anyway, so let's just stick with the 16-17k murders we were averaging). However, if you dig into the numbers, by location, victim type and, most importantly, whether they were solved or not, it's probably more like 5% and maybe as high as 10% are serial related. So you're talking anywhere from 150-1500 serial murders per year in the US.
And how many of those do you hear about? And I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or anything, no one is covering anything up, it's just neither the general public, the press, nor LE are interested anymore.
So, no, I'm pretty sure it hasn't declined. I'm not sure if it's increased, I mean numbers pre-1980s are sketch as fuck. And also I'm not sure it's porn related.
Or why we're talking about this in a porncow thread anyway, but god dammit the question was asked, and I'm answering.
