Even in the ancient times you were more likely to die due to an arrow or rock to the face then being bested in mortal combat 1v1. The only difference between the Battle of Bakhmut and the Battle of Cannae is how far we can throw the rocks. Can someone send me some artillery/drone videos? I really want to drill into my own mind that most deaths in war happen because someone shot a bomb at you several miles away and instsntly killed you before you even knew there was a fight.
No brutal knifefights or dramatically stopping a terrorist from ambushing the first idiot to walk into a room as he wrestles Joker to the ground.
I miss the days when war was about dropping a hatchet on someones head let me tell you about the good old days when people had to brutally tear each other apart with pointy sticks. Now that had some class.

The Japs absolutely seethed about how much damage American planes could take before going down. While they had 'someone looks at it the wrong way and it blows up or breaks apart in mid air' planes
We were at "Its okay! I'm still flying half a plane!" levels of durability during WW2. Hell, you had B-17 pilots bringing home planes where the fuselage was torn open and half a wing was missing from flak hits.Saburo Sakai said:I had full confidence in my ability to destroy the Grumman and decided to finish off the enemy fighter with only my 7.7 mm machine guns. I turned the 20 mm cannon switch to the "off" position, and closed in. For some strange reason, even after I had poured about five or six hundred rounds of ammunition directly into the Grumman, the airplane did not fall, but kept on flying. I thought this very odd—it had never happened before—and closed the distance between the two airplanes until I could almost reach out and touch the Grumman. To my surprise, the Grumman's rudder and tail were torn to shreds, looking like an old torn piece of rag. With his plane in such condition, no wonder the pilot was unable to continue fighting! A Zero which had taken that many bullets would have been a ball of fire by now.
That was true up until WW1, where IIRC your chances of dying from disease were roughly equal with your chances of dying to the enemy. It wasn't until WW2 that you had more people dying of their actual wounds than any sort of illness or infection picked up on the march, in camp, or after getting shot. Which is impressive when you consider that the USSR had even less medical care for its troops than Putin's Russia does now. "Bandages? Comrade, our women are too busy making uniforms for our brave, heroic soldiers to wear into battle against the Fascist scum to waste time making bandages."You were more likely to die to disease/malnutrition than mortal combat, and most of the combat related deaths were due to infection for treatment failure.
People need to go take their Hanzo Steel down to the local slaughter house and see how much work actually trying to hack up the human body is.
I want my fuckin' Dune shields so we can go back to melee combat. I can't have studied the blade for nothingI just think ranged artillery builds are OP and need to be nerfed.
And then some faggot rigs up a laser rifle on a drone and your whole squad gets nuked by your belt going off.I want my fuckin' Dune shields so we can go back to melee combat. I can't have studied the blade for nothing![]()
yeah, but they only wrote scripts for a trilogy"I know not what weapons World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
And Ukraine has the advantage of having its economy basically funded by others. Ukraine's GDP could fall to zero, and they still could keep going, as long as EU and USA keeps sending it everything it needs to stay afloat. Germany gets a lot of shit for not sending enough military aid, but when it comes to economic/civilian aid, Germany has absolutely done its part. That economic aid that keeps the civilians alive is just as vital as tanks are.Even if we take Russias most optimistic casualty claims for the Ukrainian Army they are nowhere near running out of military aged males. The casualty rate in this war is unprecedented for modern times but when compared to even a single World War Battle like Ypres or Verdun, it's an ant hill compared to a mountain.
Pretty much any combustion product is probably a carcinogen at some level, not to mention all the asbestos in the buildings flattened by artillery. It's not really that much worse than lead.Depleted uranium is still uranium, and uranium is still a carcinogen
Its funny how the Russaboos bitch about how Western aid is the only thing keeping Ukraine going when you know... that was the state of affairs in the USSR during WW2. 50.8% of their aviation fuel, 90% of their total consumption of high-octane fuel, 53% of all their explosives, and enough food to replace what was lost in both Ukraine and elsewhere due to the need for soldiers and factory workers. And Ukraine has the advantage of having its economy basically funded by others. This means Ukraine isn't as dependent on keeping the factories running, as was the case in WW1 or WW2.
Because of this Ukraine actually theoretically could sustain historically unprecedented levels of losses as per capita. Ukraine also isn't a micro nation, but a country of some 40 million people.
Ukraine lives or dies based on western support. As long as it keeps on going, Russia has no realistic chances for any kind of strategic victory in the long term.
The USSR would have starved to death had it not been for the USA shipping them food.A particular critical aspect of Lend-Lease was the supply of food. The invasion had cost the USSR a huge amount of its agricultural base; during the initial Axis offensive of 1941–42, the total sown area of the USSR fell by 41.9% and the number of collective and state farms by 40%. The Soviets lost a substantial number of draft and farm animals as they were not able to relocate all the animals in an area before it was captured and of those areas in which the Axis forces would occupy, the Soviets had lost 7 million of out of 11.6 million horses, 17 million out of 31 million cows, 20 million of 23.6 million pigs and 27 million out of 43 million sheep and goats. Tens of thousands of agricultural machines, such as tractors and threshers, were destroyed or captured. Agriculture also suffered a loss of labour; between 1941 and 1945, 19.5 million working-age men had to leave their farms to work in the military and industry. Agricultural issues were also compounded when the Soviets were on the offensive, as areas liberated from the Axis had been devastated and contained millions of people who needed to be fed. Lend-Lease thus provided a massive quantity of foodstuffs and agricultural products.
Tungsten isn't safe, either.Depleted uranium is still uranium, and uranium is still a carcinogen. Using them in the country youre trying to defend is still crazy. Cope and seethe either way youre shooting stuff around that will hurt civilians even if youre okay with the amount because its lower. War really brings out the psychopath and sociopath
Both sides are about the same size, not like the tiny romans and the towering but still tiny gauls hannibal used as shocktroops...Even in the ancient times you were more likely to die due to an arrow or rock to the face then being bested in mortal combat 1v1. Like asbestos (used in many buildings), tires and many other shit which isn't causing spergs to sperg about it.Depleted uranium is still uranium, and uranium is still a carcinogen.
Ill take toxic metals over radiation in terms of exposure and handling, aabestos as has already been said will fuck up both sides. That shouldve been dealt with already.Pretty much any combustion product is probably a carcinogen at some level, not to mention all the asbestos in the buildings flattened by artillery. What do you think the "depleted" in "depleted uranium" means? I guess it's possible a rod could be stored or manufactured incorrectly and be hazardous to the tank crew firing the round, but I assume the US would check the rounds before exporting them with their fancy antimatter based isotope detectors or whatever they have going on now.Ill take toxic metals over radiation in terms of exposure and handling, aabestos as has already been said will fuck up both sides.
