US Porn ID/Device-level Porn Filtering Megathread - Feds WILL know your fetish and you will LIKE IT!

The thing I find most dumb about Kiwi Farmers screaming tHiNk Of ThE cHiLdReN is them having total memory loss from being kids and finding ways around this stuff. Yeah good luck trying to scrub the Internet free of every dirty picture that could rape Little Johnny's virgin eyes.

I would even argue that the Internet moves faster then legislation can keep up with. Most younger people (early 20 to late 20s) don't even use traditional websites for porn. Sites like reddit and Twitter would easily pass the 33% rule. I have no idea why conservatives show up late to a party and try to die on a hill that's been long since lost

Sex for better or worse has been a very untaboo subject and there is no putting that back in the bottle.

Porn is absolutely a scourge, but if social conservatives actually cared about eradicating it they'd go after the distribution. Any retard with half a functioning brain can see how regulating access is going to be abused for censoring wrongthink. This will not hurt the (((people))) running the porn industry in the slightest.

Once the precedent is set, there's no going back. This is easily the worst possible way to deal with the problem.

Don't disagree, especially in this case where the enforcement of this is impossible, but there is an argument for going after customers. If you target producers that amounts to a reduction in supply, which raises the price, but the higher price would then attract risk-seeking producers. The quantity goes down, but there could be expected to be at least a bit of rebound from the people who aren't afraid of getting arrested and just see more money.

If you target demand, you reduce the price and the quantity both.

The fix ain't censorship, the fix is dragging all the creeps from Mindgeek and camwhore sites in front of a Geneva court and having a firing squad on standby

You're right; porn will always be a problem as long as demand for it exists. I understand that going after consumption would probably help in the short term (maybe even long-term), but I don't see it being feasible in the US except in maybe a few select stages. As idealistic as it sounds, I think it has to be resolved at a cultural level - people need to not want porn to eliminate demand completely. I don't have a solution to achieve that, but that's the only way I can see it working.

As an aside, if parents truly wanted to protect their children, there's any number of solutions for limiting access to certain websites that don't involve big daddy government. If the people clamoring for this kind of bill are so fucking lazy they can't take the time to Google "porn blocking phone apps" then they get what they fucking deserve. Unfortunately, they're also going to drag the rest of the free world down with them.

Undermining civil liberties to own "teh degenerates herp derp" is definitely a good idea that will totally have no unforeseen consequences whatsoever, just look at the patriot act you guiz! The patriot act was a great thing, how do I know that? It had "Patriot" in right in the name of the act, lol.

Yeah I definitely favor going after the ones producing it rather than consumers. However, given theoretically anyone with a camera could make it, I think we really have to just target the consumption of porn.

I wonder if it would be a hard lock put on the OS by manufacturers - which could be removed by the device owner at a verified retailer. Or basically, by default the computer is set to “I am under 18, tell every website that I visit that the device has not been verified as being owned by a >18 year old”. If the owner wants that flagged removed, they either have to prove they’re 18 when they purchase the device, or go to like a best buy and show them ID to remove it.
what they should do: outlaw commercial production and distribution of porn, throw directors and producers and distributors in jail, confiscate their profits and assets, seize and dismantle their organisations.
what they do instead: build intrusive censorship infrastructure that allows full state surveillance and control over every electronic device anybody owns, while the porn jews remain free to continue their disgusting business as usual.

i hate politicians so fucking much

most common is that parents are simply too lazy and uninterested to keep track of what their kids are up to. to these types, an ipad is a convenient babysitter that works 24/7.
this used to result in kids raised by television, now it instead results in kids raised by internet, which can be even worse than tv.

First Amendment says no to both of your ideas. Here’s a better one, why don’t we do a full IRS audit of the finances of the porn industry? There has to be some lynchpin that is playing funny with the taxman, all you have to do is Capone them and you’ll still get your wish because the system will fall apart legitimately.

Instead of going for moral grandstanding, use the law to get rid of someone you don’t like. It’s worked so far for the progressives, hasn’t it?

In theory, facilitating the access to pornographic material by a minor is probably illegal already. But if you interpret that as anyone giving an unrestricted, unsupervised access to the Internet to a minor, that's basically 9/10 parents going to jail overnight.
The void in parental control opened by gen X parents who didn't know any better is basically impossible to close now.

Holy shit that tune was catchy.

About the parental void bit: We’ve put out instructions on how to whitelist/blacklist websites on home PCs years ago. Gen X/Boomer parents had a chance to learn. They refused. Now we have this issue.

Reminder that they began establishing the precedent of weaponizing the financial system back when the FBI during the Bush II admin managed to get Insex shut down by putting pressure on credit card companies.

A bunch of wikipedophiles said:
In the fall of 2005, Insex announced it was looking for a buyer, because "continuing to produce Insex.com from the U.S. would be too great a potential liability."[1] This came as a result of attempts by the U.S. government to censor internet pornography, specifically by implementing an FBI anti-obscenity initiative in August 2005; an FBI memorandum stated that productions where the content includes "urination, defecation, as well as sadistic and masochistic behavior" would "most likely" be legally targeted.[5] At that time the site revenue was about $50,000 per week but the FBI was putting pressure on the credit card company to dropping their business with Scott until eventually they couldn't process credit card and get payment from viewers

Sounds familiar?
And it was all for nought too, cause the shutdown led to the creation of kink.com which did much more to mainstream BDSM and they effectively handed control over content to the CC companies so if Visa et al decide fat sheboons and IR cuck porn are the only acceptable kinds of content then that is all you're going to get.

I'll repeat myself: SoCons are fucking retarded and the damaged they did to themselves and the general social fabric during the Bush II admin is enormous.

The vast majority of things right-wingers complain about is self-inflicted. Unfortunately they seem to be too dumb to realize this and think "muh private companies" originated from the left.

How did kink.com manage to succeed despite the FBI crackdown/CC pressure?

You know what else is a scourge on society and is responsible for a significant proportion of the downfall of human interaction, way more than porn, smart phones and the internet. People don't talk because they're staring at their 6-inch screen constantly

Ban them I say, ban it all. Society will totally improve.

Thinking it over some more, the biggest irony for these kinds of bills is that companies like Facebook and Google will only be further encouraged to allow adult content on their websites just so they can have a reason to tie real world ID to your account. If the intention of these bills was to limit the amount of porn produced and consumed, it's about to backfire very hard.
