Over a month old, but Russian "expert" claims the T-55 is a threat to the Abrams. Priming the pump before the rollout, perhaps?

Orban was unsurprisingly fence-sitting, but it seems he's now come out openly in favor of NATO as of now. While there was definitely a lot of pressure on him, I have no doubt Russia's terrible performance has convinced him which side is more likely to actually win. Note that despite their protests the Italians are also officially joining in, which of course has me worried because they'll probably change sides later.

So, what was left in stockpiles of their MG3's and... parts for the Leopard 2A6? They've actually delivered 2A6 parts? I thought everyone was talking about the 1A5! Vatnik bros, I don't feel so good.

Since we're going all-in on aid... the Republicans are deciding its time to go all-in on aid. Notable is the specific mention of ATACMS, which Ukraine has understandably really wanted and we've understandably been really hesitant to send.

A few big grains of salt here, but Jesus, if the Armenians are now siding against Russia, who the hell is left in their corner?

I've got nothing to add.

I believe Mr. TASS source is using a report by the GAO written to then Representative Ron Wyden, who was chairman of the House subcommittee on Regulation, Business Opportunities, and Energy at the time

This report, 46 pages long, was issued January 10, 1992, and covered the performance of the Bradley fighting vehicle and the M1A1 Abrams tank in the Gulf War in five areas: reliability, survivability, lethality, mobility, and range

Basically they did great, with minor problems in design, and availability of spare parts. The biggest problem was indeed sand ingestion in the M1A1, which required frequent cleanings of the filters. This was not every 15 minutes. It was usually every 3 to 5 hours.

This 15 minutes claim appears to come from a company of M1A1s that were caught in a sandstorm. 5 tanks had to shut down and clean out their air intakes. Within 15 minutes of restarting, 2 had to shut down and clean their intakes again. Again, this was in the middle of a sandstorm

Report is here for anyone interested

tldr Russian propaganda about the Abrams is fake and gay and easily deboonked

Nordics (and Finland) sign an agreement to operate their airforces as a single joint force, as a counter to Russian aggression. This is almost certainly a way around Turkey's blocking of Finland and Sweden joining NATO.

Nordics already include Finland, so you don't need to put Finland in paranthesis, they are however, not part of Scandinavia.

Finland and Sweden in particular already had very extensive military cooperation with joint training exercises and joint military planning, and the rest of the Nordics had Nordefco, this is just a natural extension of that and I would not be surprised for the same thing being applied to their navies. Sweden has a pretty extensive sensor network in the Baltic sea and I bet the others would be pretty happy to have access to it.

What will be interesting is how the cooperation between Sweden and Finland will change with Finland entering NATO on their own.

Found the Finn!

(I know, I know, it's a joke. At least they're not Estonia.)

It'll create interesting issues. Sweden already conforms to NATO standards in most respects and there's not much intelligence the alliance would actually be able to keep secret from them, given their existing cooperation agreements with various NATO members. If a Swedish aircraft is shot down by some hypothetical Russian attack, does that trigger article five or not?

The Machine Spirits of these Bradleys and Abrams must surely sing praise to the Omnissiah to at last fulfill their intended purpose. Go blessed machines go, and strike down the Vatnik.

I'm not sure a shootdown of a Swedish jet would even trigger war with Sweden, nobody is interested in actually going to war and would do anything to avoid it, at its height we'd probably see a much more aggressive patrolling policy with lock-ons and such on any Russian airplanes coming a bit too close to the border, and some kind of deal would probably be struck with the US and UK to allow them to patrol Swedish airspace considering they have mutual defence pacts with the UK and safety guarantees from the US.

and of course, some strongly worded letters.

i remember last year before the congress elections there were predictions about how the republicans would put an end to ukraine aid after winning their majority, because of hunter biden shenanigans

Sputnik was the best non-mRNA vaccine according to a collection of studies, many Western.

Russia (and East EU) had varying levels of lockdowns, but like everything in the area, they were often inconsistent and easy to ignore. Unsure about vax mandates but Russia sure encouraged it a lot. There were mask mandates pretty much everywhere though.
The Baltics sperged out badly about vax mandates if I remember correctly. Sometimes being a small country with very uniform population can be a detriment, as if a majority takes a vax, and you don't, it will be essentially seen as unpatriotic and a threat to community cohesion, and the state will fuck with you.

Arghh like I hate how people are literally trying to defend Vatnik stupidity with well you see umm you see uhhh duhhh
You were more likely to die to disease/malnutrition than mortal combat, and most of the combat related deaths were due to infection for treatment failure.

People need to go take their Hanzo Steel down to the local slaughter house and see how much work actually trying to hack up the human body is.
I think there was a famous serial killer Richard Kemp who described in detail how hard it is to cut off someone's head. It's very hard to kill someone with melee equipment especially slice their heads clean off.
There is a reason that a rifled musket with a bayonet is nearly better in every combat scenario then a longbow/sword.
Depleted uranium is still uranium, and uranium is still a carcinogen. Using them in the country youre trying to defend is still crazy. Cope and seethe either way youre shooting stuff around that will hurt civilians even if youre okay with the amount because its lower. War really brings out the psychopath and sociopath
Welcome to war friend, depleted uranium is deadly and toxic but so is asbestos and all other chemicals. War is a dirty and toxic place as much as I want to be upset about the US using depleted uranium the Russians used white phosphorus in Ukraine as well. So at this point it's a dirty war where all bets are off.
Ill take toxic metals over radiation in terms of exposure and handling, aabestos as has already been said will fuck up both sides. That shouldve been dealt with already.
Depleted uranium is toxic and I wouldn't bathe with it but assuming you're wearing proper PPE when scrapping (were talking about slavs not haijis here) the risks can be mitigated. As for asbestos all current Russian equipment still uses asbestos for their filtration and fire retardant systems.
What do you think the "depleted" in "depleted uranium" means? I guess it's possible a rod could be stored or manufactured incorrectly and be hazardous to the tank crew firing the round, but I assume the US would check the rounds before exporting them with their fancy antimatter based isotope detectors or whatever they have going on now.
Depleted uranium is rolled in with US armor making it more resilient as well as used in the making of shells. Your average cheap Geiger counter (meant for severe radiation) won't tick off with a Geiger counter.
Russia sending T-55s/54s into Ukraine is even more solid proof that this war is going incredibly badly for them. Any claims to the contrary is just blatant coping. I'm going to laugh my ass off if they eventually start using T-34/85s in any role at all in this war.
I mean a T-55 with cheap thermals is still better then a leopard 2 without thermals and era. The tank itself it turns out is valuable if it's super cheap like the T-55/T-72 or super fancy high tech like the Abarams/advanced Centurion tanks. The middle market of middle of the road just good enough tanks doesn't cut it. Either you need something cheap that is designed to last through one or two tours or something that's efficient and effective to survive said tours.
NYT exposes massive, systemic fraud and corruption among “volunteers for Ukraine.” Large numbers of non-Ukrainians who should “not be allowed anywhere near the battlefield” are being given “ready access to American weapons.” Stolen valor, embezzled donations, and other forms of fraud are highly prevalent.

Those who support the wise, judicious, and effective use of the scarce funds being allocated to Ukraine (very scarce indeed compared to the size of Putin’s war machine) should be unanimously horrified and revolted by these revelations. So many donations from so many naive, well-intended people …. Stolen. Wasted. Defrauded.
I mean I'm not surprised the Ukrainian army is having large amounts of fraud and grift in their system. For every war you tend to have these events. Anyone want to look at WW2 Italian campaign anywhere from 10% to as high as 50% in some depot's reported missing guns, ammo, artillery, and weaponry all of that went into the hands of several dozen powerful Italian crime families at the time.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine does kick back 10% of it's weapons backstock to the black market for food, fuel, and other materials if comfort.

I think there was a famous serial killer Richard Kemp who described in detail how hard it is to cut off someone's head. It's very hard to kill someone with melee equipment especially slice their heads clean off.
decapitation is hard because you're trying to cut through a big chunk of mucle, sinew, cartilage and bone. but you don't need such brutality to kill, a simple stab into the throat with a knife will do just fine for that purpose, and that takes very little force.

A simple stab but it's still easier said then done. It takes a bit of force to stab through armor and it takes effort to cut through that. The again I never trust knife people they scare me more then gun people do because knife people tend to hurt themselves and others first and tend not to face consequences like gun users do.

what kind of armor covers the throat lol
but yeah if you have to actually fight someone in hand to hand combat then it's never gonna be easy, i was just referring to the killing move alone
Armor covering the throat is called a gorget. Google it you'll recognize it instantly from TV and movies even if you didn't know what it was called :smug:
