I've always maintained that it's not Twitter in general that destroyed political discourse in the West, but the block button in particular, because it creates these echo chambers.

My point, in its entirety was that this war is entirely astroturfed, because even with a declining population of Russia in the last 30 years, they still outnumber and outgun Ukraine, a country who's greatest hit list includes Chernobyl and about 50% of who's population probably considers themselves to be Russian anyway.

Reasons why I'm not present on many threads is that I will not write a single word without making reaserch. I'm not commenting any other divided hread because I don't have enough knowledge to do so.

I mean its obvious. Ukraines supporters tended to come from the west and skewed towards the libertarian/anarchist side of the political equation. Russia posters (and their supporters) tend to swing hard to the Nationalist or Authoritarian side of the political equation. It was a common through line of the discussion, Ukraine posters tended to catch bans quite a bit. When I pointed this out I was told if I had issues with others posters I should report them too. So I just mass reported three pages of Vatnik sperging and got two of them banned.

The original threads were a silly place. Keeping the two sides at arms lengths has helped things alot.

I mean to a large extent this sort of split has already happened. Most places online are hugboxes for one "side" or another. Even different spaces in the same site, like on Facebook where Trump boomers will mostly interact with other Trump boomers and such. Kiwifarms being sort of a holdover from the "old Internet" is just catching up to Current Year in this sense.

It makes perfect sense to me because when you look at spaces where opposing sides actually do interact with each other, it's always a substance free shit show. Twitter is the best example of this. What happens on Twitter? High minded reasoned debate and argument? No, all that happens is "dunking." It's a perpetual attempt to insult the other side for likes and clicks and clout. And you can sort of see something similar with a thread being split on Kiwifarms because of too much retarded sperging. No one is getting any closer to truth in these spaces, it's just a big pissing contest.

My view is this is due to human psychology on persuasion/persuadibility. People are generally open to persuasion when faced with information or viewpoints that are completely novel to them, something they've never heard of before, or never really thought about very much. That is when they come into an issue without any pre-existing bias or emotional attachments. I think this is one reason why there was that big wave of atheist content and a whole "atheism movement" and shit about 15 years ago.

A large amount of people raised in Christian families/communities had never encountered an atheist perspective before and barely even knew such a thing existed. The leaders and authority figures in their communities hadn't either, so if they tried to argue against atheism, they genuinely didn't know what to do and made fools of themselves. It was totally novel to them so they didn't know how to handle it. Older people who are already set in their ways would not change their view but many young people who did not yet have set worldviews and identities were thus swayed into atheism.

However that "atheist movement" died down and you basically never hear about or see that kind of content anymore, whenever Christianity vs atheism comes up today it's always in the context of broader culture wars between woke vs conservative and the like. This is because the issue reaches a saturation point where everyone has been exposed to it and made up their mind. The novelty wears off, and once people make up their mind about a political topic, they are not open to persuasion any longer, they become dug in and fixed in that spot. They might change their mind but it won't be because someone owned them in a debate with facts and logic. Attempts to persuade people quickly become pointless under this condition and probably just harden them further by creating us vs them adversarial mindset.

I think this dynamic carries over to politics on the Internet as a whole. As time goes on the positions get crystallized and debate becomes increasingly pointless as every possible argument has already been done a million times over. With that said I have been able to have some exchanges and discussions that didn't feel totally shallow and pointless, but it is always in the context of a very small space that only a tiny handful of people have access to or are paying attention to, typically 10 or less. Like a private chat room or a thread on a site somewhere that basically no one is reading except me and a couple other spergs.

The bigger a space becomes and the more eyes are on it, the less possibility there is for any real truth-seeking as social clout chasing and retard sperging takes over and drowns out anything else. This is pretty predictable as most people suck at/have no interest in truth seeking and are only able to participate in politics via a tribal identity lens, so any place that lets in any significant number of people to participate will necessarily become a tribal shouting match.
