Resident Evil - Virgin Vampire Wine Mom vs Chad Magnetic Lebowski

are you sure? there's a repurchase tab in the buy menu.

the striker is the actual crowd control shotgun. not for power, but invaluable if you find yourself getting swarmed. it's a shame that it comes so late whereas, oddly, the riot gun comes earlier than usual. even still, the riot gun is the best shotgun in the game for its tight choke.

also, i've learned that you can shoot the church bell in the village survival in chapter 1 to end the battle instantly, but i think you need a rifle to do so. i tried for like 5 minutes with the handgun so maybe it's for people on NG+ who just want to keep things moving?
Based. You're a life saver.

Also, power up your knife. It is super useful in this game and the one you get near the end of the game is even better. The window for a parry is pretty wide and slashing up enemies up close does a lot of damage and stun, and with maxed durability you never need to worry about breaking before getting a chance to repair.

Finished earlier. Wanted to gather my thoughts before posting a review. I'm probably forgetting some stuff.

Pros:

Visuals are great, although there's some low res textures that take a moment to boot in if you're on PS4.

Being able to see the surrounding areas like the castle, the island factories clearly and from multiple locations is great. Like you can see the castle when you're at the lake and ride up to the cliffs below it.

Weapons sound design is top tier.

Big weapon variety and the upgrade system is intact.

Scopes go on more than just rifles, and with that the rifles can be fired with iron sights if you remove the scope.

Big amounts of enemies on the screen at once with zero slow down.

Enemy gore effects are stupid cool and I don't know why it was said they cut all that. Like blowing a torso away with the shotgun is awesome. Head explosions, and the like all return. Even taking enemies in half is in there and hasn't been in this series since RE2 OG.

Aside from U3 being cut, all the boss fights are generally the same as they were in the original with minimal changes to appearances.

A bulk of the areas from the original return but they're remixed with going through them in different order or in reverse which makes it feel new.

Big emphasis on backtracking which isn't even a thing in the original.

Merchant missions the entire game.

All enemy types return, which from day one I thought wouldn't be a thing but it is. And they even added different forms to some enemies.

Garrador is way cooler and creepier in this than the original. His introduction is right out of Silent Hill.

Dog is still alive. I don't know why this was going around months back and give how shitty 3make was, it easily convinced people like myself.

Way heavier emphasis on the cult through visuals and files and gives backstory to everyone in the village and Saddler.

Customizable treasures which can get enhanced with specific jewel combos.

AUTO ARRANGE ATTACHE CASE

Body armor needs to be repaired.

Knife mechanics are fun and cannot be abused since they break easily early on.

You get Krauser's knife.

Charms added to the case with special properties like higher pickups for X item.

Gunpowder mechanic.

I've always considered the Castle somewhat weaker than the Village in OG. I think it's just as strong as the followup in this and definitely more visually stunning than the original.

Island didn't have major cuts. Areas are reworked, remixed or just removed and replaced with newer areas. Less of a slog, but still feels like a slog.

Mike is in the 5-4 chapter, although I think it's chapter 15.

I like this Krauser. I prefer big bowie knife, beefcake version as a look but he feels more like a character in this. It's just a shame his voice actor is fucking terrible.

A lot of post game content to unlock, accessories like masks, glasses, wigs etc.

Suit of Armor Ashley and gangster Leon return.

Matilda, Handcannon (but it's a S&W 500 from RE5), infinite RPG and Chicago Typewriter all return. And the special weapons can be ammo fed instead of infinite before the last upgrade, which I like. I prefer to require ammo for stuff.

Original OST. It's all I'll ever use probably. The Krauser boss music fits very well in this.

Shooting ranges return.

All the chapters are structured the same way as in the original and end on the same bulletpoints. It's just they're not structured like in the original like chapter 3-1. 3-2 etc. There's 16 chapters in total.

I don't know what the consensus is, but my final time was about 20 hours. I think my playthrough of the original is the same.

Cons:

Acting is dogshit. Not one actor is pleasant to listen to. No character is really likeable like they were in the original.

And to piggyback on that point. Ada's VA is HORRENDOUS. It's actually shocking how bored her cadence is.

Mendez second phase boss fight is stupid. His torso just goes to the end of the barn to throw shit at you for most of that part.

U3 cut.

JJ cut for some guy with a minigun on his forearm which sucks.

Fork path cut.

The bear trap section of the mines is gone.

The mine cart section is dumb and tries to be Temple of Doom so hard.

Novistadors are completely nerfed.

The second Verdugo vanishes off screen and isn't involved in the Salazar boss battle.

Music is no where as good as the original, but it's to be expected.

Quickturn is incredibly slow and he won't start running immediately.

Movement can feel really janky at times.

The cooldown of switching weapons quickly is really slow when you really need it and you can pull the trigger and it won't fire and an enemy attack takes priority. It's incredibly frustrating.

The camera is really fucking janky sometimes. Like if you're in a bushy area, with your back up against the bushes, they'll cut into your view and completely obscure Leon and what's in front of you.

Way, way too many reused weapon assets from RE2 and RE3.

Some of the shooting range challenges are luck and not skill based.

For the people that hated Ashley in the original... you don't know what pain is when you experience her in this. Getting her out of the church cemetery is a complete pain in the balls. Her AI is awful where as in the original she's glued to your ass the entire time.

Cut mecha Salazar but he's replaced with a flamethrower statue thing.

Truck section cut and replaced with Ashley smashing a wall with a wrecking ball which is eh. I'd rather do the truck again.

The 5-4 chapter is in this, and not really reworked and it's fucking as terrible as the OG.

Saddler boss fight is great, until her turns into a Dead Space monster in the final section, and then Leon does some dumb shit like the end of RE2 and stabs him like he does Birkin.

Wesker post credits stinger is awful because the new VA is awful since Douglas was fired for being a coomer.

Ada doesn't want to give Wesker the parasite because he hints of his aspirations of RE5 and she has a change of heart. Which is dumb and never even mentioned in the original.

So more positives than bad. Although I might pick it apart after the honeymoon is over. It's a lot better than I expected. But again like 2make, has little things that bug me. Honestly it's the reused weapons from the previous two games that bother me the most.

Rating: 9/10

It's not REmake, but it's far better than 2make and 3make. It doesn't replace the original, but it hits all the beats that stick out from the original. It's a great companion piece. This should be a template on how they fix CV.

Anybody else watching Synthetic man's stream? He's really really bad at this. I'm comparing his gameplay to mine and yikes.
I was watching some of Pat's stream replay after completing it and he's taking cues from Troon Hunter in his chat.

@Wesker So one question, thought I should assume it's in as you didn't say it was cut.

The goofy ass lava dragon room in the castle, still in?

this is underrated as fuck tbh. if you can muster up a chunk of rifle ammo, it's a ton of fun to roll around using the bolt-action this way.

same. 16-20 hours if you are backtracking for all the treasures (and you should, because money is tighter in this one).

Mendez second phase boss fight is stupid. His torso just goes to the end of the barn to throw shit at you for most of that part.
i still have no idea how to dodge half this shit. just a DPS race every time, and it rewards using the TMP.

The 5-4 chapter is in this, and not really reworked and it's fucking as terrible as the OG.
my only disagreement. this one felt a lot less strenuous to complete and somehow felt more fun. i'm also just used to Mike not helping if you play on Professional difficulty in the original.

Anybody else watching Synthetic man's stream?
i follow him and peeked in on his re4 play a few times, but he's not handling it very well, true. you really can't approach the remake like the original because of the (excessive, imho) RNG in gameplay, what with enemies not always staggering or even flinching, and bullets not landing precisely where aimed, outside of the few that have laser sighting.

I was watching some of Pat's

at least we finally had Ashley acknowledging the merchant's existence.

my reply spree aside, i feel that the game could have used more enemies in more places, but it's fine as is. i'm very hopeful for the Mercenaries add-on giving me an arena experience with this game & its mechanics.

Played a bit yesterday and my man they really ruined the merchant. I wanted another epic "WELCOME!" when I first enter his shop but not this lame "Hello there stranger" But the fighting mechanics are fun so far though I am getting slow to roundhouse kick staggered enemies (yeah I am getting old I know)

found some leaked strings on the upcoming Mercenaries mode. my appetite is already whetted, and i see they're adding Luis too. Wesker and Ada are separate because they likely won't be included right off the bat, and we'll have to wait until Separate Ways is added. the text also confirms that Hunk will be breaking necks and Krauser will have his mutant abilities, though the status of his rambo bow is still uncertain. it seems there will be the same amount of stages as the original, with Village, Castle, and Island to start, and maybe the Docks (Waterway, Super Salvador?) to be added with Wesker & Ada. furthermore it appears some RE8-style perks may be added, but take that with the usual pinch of salt.

@Wesker So one question, thought I should assume it's in as you didn't say it was cut.

The goofy ass lava dragon room in the castle, still in?
Yeah that got cut. One of the few I had forgotten. The section where you're caged in with the Garrador is cut, but the cage is in there and you have to free Leon from it with Ashley.

Her section is pretty fun and longer than it was in the original. You need to hide from patrolling Plagas Knights and your defense is a Merchant blue light which freezes them in place temporarily.

Everything that was posted in that leak list pages back was all true and accurate. The tram is gone, but you walk past the Mendez barn early in the game and there's a busted down tram line behind it in the foreground.
i still have no idea how to dodge half this shit. just a DPS race every time, and it rewards using the TMP.

My advice after dying a few times, is to as soon as he winds them up, run to the other side of the area and you'll dodge it every time. Although when he has gas tanks I think that is unavoidable. So you need to shoot those.

I really loved the reworked Krauser fight. He's way faster here than in the OG.

I also loved the reworked Salazar as well. He killed me a lot. I like that it's just 1 on 1 without the Verdugo. But not doing anything with that spare was odd.
my only disagreement. this one felt a lot less strenuous to complete and somehow felt more fun. i'm also just used to Mike not helping if you play on Professional difficulty in the original.
It's not quite as bad, but the section with the two switches to unlock the door I hated nearly as much.
who's that? if you don't mind me asking.
Pat from Two Best Friends Play. The Let's Play channel that split up a few years ago. He's just a streamer now and I figured I would watch him since he's an RE nerd and I wanted to see his opinion after finishing it.

I thought it was interesting that Water Hall was reworked to have a second floor and a basement level before the sniper section. Not as tedious as the original.

The Castle really has beautiful areas. They really go ham with the cultist imagery.

But in general, I liked it a lot even with the dark tones of it. I just wish it had better VAs. Ada I cannot stress enough how bad she is. She sounds like she would rather be doing anything than be apart of this game.

After RE8 I’m not sure how much I trust capcom when it comes to mercenaries, but if they include all the characters, my faith might just be restored. Hunk, Leon, Ada, Krauser, and Wesker. Luis as a nice bonus maybe.

Ashley would be a funny joke character if they made her shoot guns and snap necks.
I swear I saw someone playing as Ada...
That was a mod.

I mentioned I loved that all the enemies types are back and how they reworked some. The two standouts are definitely Garridor and Regenerator/Iron Maiden. Garridor is a Silent Hill character now. And the Regenerators are way harder since they fucking RUN. Their section is great since they're chasing you around in the dark. They didn't change their appearance too much. Blowing their legs off to shoot their parasite in the back is no longer a thing. They're visible in either direction. The difference now is their movement speed and sway are heavily exaggerated. And Iron Maidens are just transforming Regenerators now.

Given that Leon literally name drops "Separate Ways" in the ending makes it pretty obvious it's coming.

I'm very happy with this game. The combat just feels very good and I'll never get bored shooting Ganados.

I won't lie I kinda miss the QTEs although I get why Capcom abandoned them. The lake monster just is left trivial though since you're not forced to get Leon back on the boat.

I was just thinking about that. There's no sense of urgency in that fight and it's really easy to get a perfect on it. I also prefer the way he looks in the original. He just looks like a big salamander here where as in the original he's all fucked up looking with the parasite tentacles in his mouth.

I never got all the "QTEs are sooooo bad" thing, I'm not saying it's a creative mechanic or anything, but it seems like one of the least offensive gaming things nowadays, tho I mostly play fighting games, so maybe I'm not getting the full picture.
