You know we're dealing with literal trench warfare right now, right? Oh, cool, Ukraine managed to capture a few trenches after sending their own ethnic Russians into a meat grinder. Russia is happy to let them spend all their men and ammo on taking a few miles of space and then sweep in once Ukraine runs low on supplies and fresh bodies. They've got most of their Soviet stocks of weapons and ammo left and they have gas and food that isn't poisoned with depleted uranium. The IMF has made changes to its rules that will allow Ukraine to provide a loan:
The Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved on Friday changes to the rules that will allow the financial institution to approve new loan programs for countries such as Ukraine. This is stated in a written statement issued by the IMF. We are talking about providing loans to countries facing "exceptionally high uncertainty". Changes in the IMF's policy on granting credit programs will apply to states experiencing " external shocks that are beyond the control of the country's authorities and the scope of their economic policy capabilities." In its statement, the board noted that providing loans to countries facing exceptionally high uncertainty "will require careful analysis of whether such a program is feasible and credible, given the likely risk characteristics, and whether it meets the legal and policy requirements for lending by the fund." Kiev asks the IMF for a $15 billion loan program. The fund's statement does not specifically mention Ukraine, but the rule changes were developed in parallel with negotiations with the Kiev authorities on new funding. According to Reuters, the IMF and Ukraine are expected to reach initial agreements on the new loan program as early as March 21. The allocation of the loan must still be approved by the fund's board of Directors.

Bro, this isn't Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria. Russia wants to rule over the territory it captures. Blasting it all to shit defeats the purpose of that. No shit they're going slow. They don't want every city to end up like Bahkmut, When you're fighting a total war with complete disregard for the surroundings, sure you can go fast, but that's not this type of war.

Bakhmut is an exception since Ukraine declared it the holy land for some fucking reason. What Russia is doing now is grinding down Ukraine, because it out-produces the entirety of NATO on artillery and ammo, with basically NATO being two years behind at best. This is barring another war breaking out or a need for American interventionism or the banks spontaneously combusting.

Russia can afford to go slow. Ukraine can't. The entire country is a zombie country right now, it is not an independent state. Its being propped up by the entirety of the Western world. Its also got to show gains as well, otherwise support is going to slow. The CIA is already impatient with it, there's already an unofficial timer by this fall if Ukraine doesn't make gains, shit gets real.

The sanctions haven't done a thing to Russia, the fact that the West is willing to punish you using both economic and military power has chilled relations with traditional allies (SA, India) and it looks like a second economic bloc is forming. It has pushed China and Russia closer together, who historically have been apart. Reserve currencies also don't last forever, about a century is the lifespan for them. And the century has been over for the dollar, so we're starting to see countries make moves to disconnect the umbilical cord.

All in all, Ukraine has been an unmitigated disaster for the West. And Ukraine has still ceased at being an independent state. Owing this much money to the IMF and the West cedes any sort of national destiny you have. And if you think Ukraine is going to retake Crimea, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

My main concern with Russia's protracted style of conflict is that the west has been setting up the dominoes to duplicate the conditions that led to this conflict in both Moldova and Georgia. I hope Russia has shit wrapped up before they end up in a war on three fronts, and beyond that they really need some time between the conflicts to rest up and ease some of their war weariness.
